I'm sure some of us remember the British heavyweight Alex Stewart

Born in the UK but fought in the US. You remember him getting stopped by Mike Tyson in one round.

I don't know the history of Alex so if anyone can put more info to this post that would be great.

My thinking was, how good would have Stewart been if he had fought over here? How far could he have gone?

Good question. Alex moved to the USA when he was about 15.

1. If he'd not moved, took up boxing here and operated from the UK, I don't think he'd have turned out as good a fighter. Our trainers and sparring simply were of a lower quality.

2. If he'd moved to the States when he did, qualified for the UK Olympic team (rather than Jamaica), lived and trained in America but built his resume in the UK, I think he'd have won area, British, Commonwealth and European championships but still lost to the quality fighters he lost to in his prime. He'd have probably got at least one world title shot.

Different career path but probably the same outcome....lower end top ten world title contender.

Good boxer with solid power. Banged out a lot of the usual suspects on his way up through the ranks.

The shoot out with Michael Moorer is well worth watching

Stewart would have lost that fight in the UK. He was in a far worse state at the end of round two than Justis Huni was when he was stopped against Wardley.

Its quite odd when you think of it - how many title shots and second chances would Alex Stewart have had in this era. When you think of some of the guys Stewart lost close fights too and some of the guys Stewart beat.

I'll need to watch the foreman fight again - but when I watched it last many years ago - I think Stewart was a winner, despite that terrible start.

Gave a reasonable account for Holyfield also - who would become the #1 in the division again in his next fight.

When you think that Joyce is 1-4 and is still being talked about; AJ was 2-3 and was still ranked 3rd Heavyweight, Pulev is 44 and calling himself a world champion and Derrick Chisora is well Derrick.

That's a fight I'd like AI to score. I didn't have a problem with George winning by a point on two cards plus a draw on the third. But I wouldn't have minded the decision going to Stewart either, it was legitimately difficult to score and very, very close

Stewart was good but his development and confidence were probably stunted by his matchmaking. 25 tomato cans in a row then HOLYFIELD. Can can can TYSON. Can can can MOORER. Can can can FOREMAN then HOLYFIELD AGAIN.

Christ, could they not have booked a Renaldo Snipes or a Tyrell Biggs here and there for him to practice on? Best of the best or worst of the worst with no in between.
