Andre Dirrell
David Haye
John Ruiz (Boring as hell)
Gervonta "Tank" Davis (for all the duckery)
I'm sure there are others I'm not big on, but these were/are the guys that really annoy me.
There's also the unique case of James Toney who went from being one of the fighters I hated most to being one of my all time favorites. A unique transition

I hate guys during their careers but sometimes I change my mind out after they retire. Hated Larry Holmes and Hector Camacho when they were active, but liked them later. Holmes was like a real surly-A Hole, now he's a mellow old dude.

I tend to hate fanboys rather than fighters. For example, Money Mayweather’s fans are insanely stupid on social media but I always had a high opinion of his skill.
I am generally not a fan of fighters like Canelo or Ottke who start fights with three or four rounds banked in the referees scorecards. Shumenov is probably my least favorite fighter of the last 20 years: a super rich guy who was absolutely gifted alphabet belts in two weight classes and defended against horrifically bad opposition. His career gave the appearance of having been purchased from the alphabet organizations and judges

I don't hate but when I read what Burt Cooper was like out of the ring, I disliked him a lot. Funny, I liked him as a fighter very much.

After he retired, he would rob people in the morning who were on their way to work. No weapons used, just the threat of a serious beating.

There was an article on thesweetscience.com, I believe. Sonny Liston's illegitimate son knocked out Cooper in a street fight. Guy was like 6'7" and 365 lbs.
Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
William Wingate was the man's name. You can find info easily if you search- he was given some decent coverage

Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
Yeah looked it up, saw a post on his Facebook page saying he knocked Cooper out as Cooper was robbing people and tried to rob him. Wingate nowhere near 6’7” though, says he’s 6’1”. They became mates afterwards and there’s a photo of them together and Wingate only a few inches taller. Who knows with these street fight stories though, normally an element of truth stretching and making it sound better than it was. But if true maybe Cooper was off his head on drink and/or drugs so easier to chin.

Hating a warrior like Holyfield should get you banned for life from boxing forums.
I didn't think Sonny could have children, but there is a facial resemblance with this Wingate monster and his voice sounds very similar to Sonny's. A non-fighter probably would need Sonny Liston's genetics to beat Bert Cooper in a streetfight tbh.
Cooper was one of life's losers. Chin, power, and shit for brains. I remember after his Holyfield and Moorer heroics he got a gimme in China against a chinny, washed up, 40+ Mike Weaver and still Cooper, in his 20s, managed to lose. All he needed was a win to get another shot in the US but he was too unfit even to knock over Weaver's corpse.
Fighters I hate would be people like Floyd and Fury who handpick opponents and manufacture greatness, and great talents who squander their prime knocking over cans a la Roy Jones.

Imagine what Cooper could’ve done if he was clean, disciplined and had the right training team behind him. He often done little to zero training for fights and has a drink and drugs problem. I didn’t know he robbed people but if you are off you head and desperate enough for whatever he needed then guess easy for some to go down that route.

Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
I’d never heard of him before seeing this thread, what proof did he give that he was his son?
Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
None at all. He managed to convince author Paul Gallender, who dragged him around the country for a time. Somebody probably once told Wingate that he resembled Liston, and he chose to milk that story as much as he could. Gallender was a Liston fanboy who believed anything from Liston being close to 50 at the time of the Ali fights to Liston talking to him from the afterlife through a medium.Controversial wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 02:15I’d never heard of him before seeing this thread, what proof did he give that he was his son?

In that case it’s bizarre he was given any type of platform or involvement in anything boxing related.wouter wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 10:38None at all. Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
sheeyatt, the dude has hands that look just like Sonny Liston's.
btw were is the proof that suggests that he is a 'fraud" ?
Sonny Liston was one of 25 children.
He had to have some relatives still around Forrest City(St. Francis County) Arkansas
for some kind of DNA anaylisis.

Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
well if someone here is going to claim that he was a "fraud",
they should at least present some type of evidence for it.
for instance what year was Bill Wingate born for one thing ?
sometime after 1971 ? (because that would be a big red flag for starters)

Re: Boxers you absolutely hate?
1962-that is the year when Sonny Liston was a resident in Philadelphia.
remember his famous quote when he left there to move to Denver ?
(after almost no one greeted him at the airport when he arrived just after winning the HW Championship of the World)
he told the newspaper men,
"I rather be a lamp post in Denver then the mayor of Philadelphia".
