Audley the conman?
When he turned pro, Harrison was paid £1,000,000 for 10 fights by the BBC.
I'm sure he was well paid for the most of his bouts, considering the status of those fights. Does anyone have any figures as to what Audley has earned through boxing?
One wonders whether he really believed he could/would become champ or whether he was just in it for the financial incentive? I don't think Harrison ever really had any desire to establish himself within boxing.
I think Audley's attitude was: "As long as I'm getting paid well, generating publicity, known to the public" etc, then that's ok.
Has Harrison conned us? There have been many a fighter in the past more deserving of the publicity & financial reward than Harrison was/is.
Fancy the BBC paying him a £1,000,000! Sure, you can't blame him for accepting the offer, who wouldn't The BBC must regret this act now, surely?

i am not a fan of audley (far from it ) but i dont think he has conned anybody. the only reason he has earned this sort of money is because people hedged their bets to soon and jumped on the audley band wagon to soon trying to get him under contracts quickly and cheaply as possible i.e promoters, sports manafacturers, t.v companys etc. i do think that audley was guilty of beliving is own hype and then coming unstuck but i dont think he was the only one.

Bear in mind that out of that 1,000,000 there are plenty of fees which would have come out, the trainer gets his percentage, his PR company requires staff paying, and his training camps cost money. It's an expensive business.Rocky Balboa wrote:When he turned pro, Harrison was paid £1,000,000 for 10 fights by the BBC.

I reckon Audley is ok off, but a multi-millionnaire, not on your nelly, any sponsorship deals he would have had, would have evaporated after he started losing, and his potential for making money off his name is all but gone, unless he wants to start going on reality TV shows.

Well if you take any notice of the interviews he gives Jim, he reckons if he didn't box he'd be a pro poker player. Well here is his chance to find out if he's any good at that.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Bear in mind that out of that 1,000,000 there are plenty of fees which would have come out, the trainer gets his percentage, his PR company requires staff paying, and his training camps cost money. He'd have to wear headgear in case one of the cards flies out of the dealers hand and hits him on the head he'd be KO'd!Andy Mac wrote:Well if you take any notice of the interviews he gives Jim, he reckons if he didn't box he'd be a pro poker player. Remember that Audley was
1)Paid £1m from the BBC.
2) Cantor paid him £500k a year for 2 years.
3) He was his own Manager.
4) He managed Himself.
5) Brokered his own deal in the States and Sponsorship.
And that is before you mention the Paydays for fights he had AFTER the BBC.
Audley made some very good money.
