Town of Tonawanda heavyweight Joe Mesi remained undefeated late Saturday night with a first-round knockout of late replacement opponent Ron Johnson at the Hughes Community Center in Russellville, Ark.

Mesi stopped Johnson 1:45 after the opening bell to improve to 35-0 with 28 knockouts. Mesi is 6-0 with three KOs since the rescinding of his medical suspension for brain bleeds.

He was supposed to fight Marvin Hill, but a switch was made to Johnson, who fell to 21-21. Mesi weighed 232 pounds, while Johnson’s weight was unavailable.
