my friend and i were having a talk about women's boxing today. he was saying how it sucks right now. i was trying to defend it, but i realized its kinda weak right now. i told him that it would probably get better because there are more amateurs right now and they will hopefully turn pro. so my question is, are there any women amateur boxers right now that can bring the excitement of a christy martin or lucia rijker?
ps this is my first post here so...hi!

There are several excellent U.S. women boxers, too. The problem is that the pro promoters/managers and general fight public are not interested in seeing women box. Christy Martin and Mia St. Silicone made a brief splash because they were featured as a "dog and pony show," not promoted as the male fighters are. There are many good pro women who we never see because no one cares. They don't get paid squat and one promoter told a female boxer friend of mine that he is only interested in "pretty" female boxers. It's really sad because most of the women are excellent athletes and more dedicated (since they have more to prove) than their male counterparts. I don't see female boxing making it to the big time for many years.
