Usually somebody gets the info about USAB tourneys or other USAB news and posts it here before USAB posts it on their website.boxmel wrote:No news yet - would be nice if we got some kind of advance notice. Personally, if it's in Miami the week of August 5 I won't be able to go. So I'm hoping it's in Houston.
I'll post as soon as I hear anything, especially if I know before USAB makes an announcement.
Since I am assigned as staff as a computer tech, I have been asked to not say anything. It seems the athletes perception is that I can, somehow, do something with the results. This was a formal request and I'm going to honor it. I don't want the athletes having to worry about anything so silly as they are trying to make the Olympic team. They'll have enough pressure on them without my adding to it.
Yeah I heard. A couple of boxers and coaches told me about it. I told them that a computer tech can't influence the outcome, but they were concerned about the appearance of impropriety.boxmel wrote:Since I am assigned as staff as a computer tech, I have been asked to not say anything. Thanks for the compliment, Dennis - and I do see it as a compliment. There are so few people posting here who actually attend the events so it's rare to get an "on the spot" overview or opinion. I, too, hope others will offer their points of view here. If not, you can always read Julie's recaps on the USAB web site. ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Personally, even though I'm new here, I like that Mel voices her opinions on the fights and the way things unfold. I've never been to one of the major tournaments here in the US, so I find it informative when someone with as much experience as her is willing to give the rest of us, who can't be at the events, a report on what's happening. Obviously you don't want a judge in the middle of a fight showing bias; but I seriously doubt Mel's posting in the middle of a fight (or would show bias). ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Mel wasn't judging at those events. She was a computer tech - making sure the computer scoring system worked properly. She was NOT scoring the bouts and was not affecting the scores. I looked forward to someone giving their opinion about the boxers and the bouts themselves.Kolya wrote:Personally, even though I'm new here, I like that Mel voices her opinions on the fights and the way things unfold. It was meant as a compliment. Now the outlook of this forum is bleak. Very few people actually tell everyone their opinions. I did and do, but I don't attend all of the national tournaments.boxmel wrote:Thanks for the compliment, Dennis - and I do see it as a compliment.
