Who will be the next big thing in Australian boxing?
Who will be the next big thing in Australian boxing?
We have some exciting boxers in Australia at the present time, but who do you think has the class to be the next big thing?
yeh, heath is a very exciting young prospect..
Has a knack of finding defensive faults in fighters and when he finds them normally either rips to their body (like his uncle) or throws bombs at their head, hes big on two punch combos and his biggest asset is his power..
However, he needs to work on his own defense while still in the early stages of his career because he gets tagged easily, and while fighting b class aussie welters this may not hurt but against a world top 30 fighter he would find himself in a spot of bother..
altogether i think he is very very good and given the proper mentoring he will go well

On this topic though i think willie kickett is our best new boxer, great at fighting orthodox and southpaw, quick hands, quick feet, great power, athletic ability..
he is trained by craig christian and trains and spars with daniel dawson, chris john among others..
I think that if cool willie can keep his stuff together and keep learning while progressing at a good pace onto decent quality boxers he will go well

how about daniel dawson he has to be considered to be a big thing in aussie boxing with that ko over solopov and if he wins on dec 14 against geale for a ibo world title he could make a spash with talks about going to the US for fights as he has really progressed latelyand has power to knock people out with both hands... or are we just talking about young prospects.
No, a prospect, is a prospect. I'm looking forward to the Dawson vs Geale fight, it will be a tight contest, which a think Daniel Geale will win with a decision. Although if Dawson catches him early with his power it could be a different story.
But I'd have to agree with Bushboy, William Kickett has the foot work and technique to take that next step. Although he hasn't really fought any real quality fighters as of yet. He reminds me of the Peterson boys fighting in the US at the moment.

Lets's see if we can work it out:What would you say the ratio of prospects to world class fighters is in Australia?
Okay, the possible prospects are;
Ellis, Medley
Dib, Zappavigna
Kickett, Gostelow
Ammann, Katsounis
Savidis Jnr, Langham
Geale, Luxford
Singh, Asiku
Pittman, Elomar
Crampton, Warburton
Dawson, Browne
Gazzard
The World Class Fighters are:
Briggs, Katsidis
Green, Peden
Mundine, St Clair
Soliman, Skinny Hussein
Darchinyan, Hussy Hussein
N'Dou, Bika
Rabah
Approximately 5 prospects for every 3 world class fighters.
Without going over the lists with a fine tooth comb I that actually doesn't seem too bad a ratio...tigerus wrote:Lets's see if we can work it out:What would you say the ratio of prospects to world class fighters is in Australia?

exept that i dont think elomar, luxford, langham and gazzard will go very far and are way overhyped and st clair, darchinyan, bika, ndou and rabah didnt learn to fight in australiaMarlin wrote:Without going over the lists with a fine tooth comb I that actually doesn't seem too bad a ratio...tigerus wrote:Lets's see if we can work it out:What would you say the ratio of prospects to world class fighters is in Australia?

a name to watch is micheal hatwell hes making his pro debut soon he was in the ais when he was 17 he is now 20 or 21 and is turning pro i think he is one to watch if he can adapt to a pro style
He finished his fight in quick time tonight. Paderna was knocked down once in the first and rescued a few seconds later. Less then two minutes to KTFO a fighter who had gone 6 with Cotterill!Bushboy wrote:On this topic though i think willie kickett is our best new boxer, great at fighting orthodox and southpaw, quick hands, quick feet, great power, athletic ability..

Former kickboxer Bill Kalache looked impressive in his first pro bout last night, cleaning up Steve Timbii in 40 seconds with two knockdowns.
Nick Buonanova looked crisp and stylish KOing Aaron Ryan in 1:39 of the second. I do not know if I heard them right, but Andy Raymond and Danny Green kept talking about the fight as Buonanova's debut, when it was his third fight and the second time he KOed Ryan. Buonanova is now 3-0 (2KOs)

Ryan was REALLY bad, you tell he was very over matched before the opening bell...

I reckon if they fought Katsidis would KHTFO in the first round. Lenny gets hit too often early on to withstand "Rocky The Great's" onslaught...Brute wrote:It will be interesting to see if Lenny Zappavigna can emerge from Katsidis' shadow. So far he is 11-0 with 8 KOs. God only knows why he is fighting Omongos again. He KTFOed him in the first round of his second pro fight and Ariel has not improved since.

guys you must remember the kid is only 19 years old you need to give him time to mature as a boxer. Lenny Zappa could be anything he already has beeen a sparring partner for Manny Pacquio and Vic Darchinyan both of them must think highly of him to have him as a main sparring partner.

I am talking about his future. There is no way I would put him in with Katsidis now, but I think he should be fighting better boxers than Omongos.Marlin wrote:I reckon if they fought Katsidis would KHTFO in the first round. Agreed, Langham was a good start but he should have followed up with someone better than Omongos.Brute wrote:I am talking about his future.
