tyson moorer: prefight story

Post by man »

sorry, if that is common knowledge but i just read for the first time that mike
had destroyed some wall between their dressing rooms which frightened
moorer so much that his team had to talk to him for half an hour to make him
get out and into the ring. can anyone confirm this story??

Tyson never fought Moorer. A similar story used to circulate about his fight with Spinks--and Spinks DID look a bit frightened in their bout. But it's impossible to say whether it's true, or, if so, how much that truth has been exaggerated.

But didnt they fight different opponents on the same card at some point? Could this have been what is being refferred to? Though it is a stretch to think that Mike going on a rampage regarding ANOTHER fighter would cause Moorer to be shy about fighting some other undercard opponent.

But there was a time when Mike was almost hysterically feared so I'm sort of laughing thinking that something like this could have some basis of truth. Fact is, if anyone could have created such a scenario Mike would have been the leading candidate.

Michael Moorer has lost five fights. Tyson was not on the same program at any of them.

Tyson's "reign of terror" ended in 1990 when Buster Douglas beat him. He has admitted this himself. Moorer did not lose a fight until George Foreman beat him in 1994.

Brute, I think your right. I think the closest they came was when tthey shared an evening of boxing at two different locations. Both fights may have been shown on one shared evening broadcast. Someone can check on this. So they would not have had this purported "run in".

No, you're confusing Michael Moorer with Michael Spinks. This is a story about Spinks, that Tyson was angry about the guff Spinks' team was giving him about his hand wrappings, and Tyson put his hand through the wall into Spinks' dressing room. Whether this is true or not I don't know, but the story has nothing to do with Michael Moorer.

Moorer did fight Botha on the undercard of Tyson-Holyfield I. They were in the same arena, MGM Grand.

have read about this story many times would like to know if its true the only way i could see it being true is if the changerooms were gyprock/plaster board walls or some sort of material like this i couldnt see any human punching through concrete and not breaking a hand or knuckles but if it was a gyprock wall i could see mike doing it very easy
