The only problem is that boxing is not like football where you have an offensive squad and a defensive squad. If one coach works on catching the jab does the other coach then have to take over to teach how to then counter with the boxer's own jab? How do you separate rolling a punch and then throwing your own? Part of it is defense and part is offense. The two skill sets are very intertwined in boxing.

The choosing of the Olympic coaches and manager is generally a political move. I don't know Coach Martin but I do know, and like, Willy Price. I just hope the manager is someone who has lots of experience in this area, comports himself or herself well and can represent us with dignity and integrity in the international arena. We'll see.

Agree totally. Defensive and offensive coach in boxing is just ridiculous. If a coach can only teach defense (or offense) he shouldn't be a coach.

Agree, of course they don't only teach one thing. Actually I'd believe they have gotten those names but they are just regular coaches. Probably one works more on the defensive aspects than the other.

I mean they can have gotten those names as defensive coach and offensive coach but they are just normal coaches like everyone else.

Yep - just like most of the USAB coaches - normal; although a few aren't.

Sorry, Dennis, but coaches are much more strange than officials. :box:

No lawyer is normal (ducking!). And a coach/lawyer is twice a non-normal (pain-in-the-you-know-what).

Welllllllllllllllllllllllll - after much deliberation, one large cup of Hot Chai Tea, one medium cup of coffee, a bagel and too much Halloween candy - I have decided that I do like you, sight unseen. And I have never known a goofball lawyer............did two days of jury duty last month and most definitely don't like lawyers after that experience - defense or DA!

At least you didn't have to get drunk to make that decision about me. :TU:

  We will, however, definitely have to have a drink if and when we ever meet. Should make sure Hal is there, too, and we could have a Box Rec get together!

Sounds good Mel. Hal and I met at the US Championships this year. Luke Runion and I had met last year and Hal was working with him and that is how I got to know Hal. I also had been watching Fernando for awhile.

It's a date! Might have to be the U.S. Championships, IF I get assigned. Quite frankly, if they do AIBA testing next year I don't want to go. It's too tense and not much fun.

Are you 2 at it again. Your either fighting like cats and dogs or getting all mushy on me. I leave for a few days and when I get back I have to go right back to babysitting. O. K. as far as offensive coach goes I know that Gary Russells' dad.s assistant coach Robert does a real nice job with focus mitt work and is pretty good at catching punches. Defensively, it's all based on Willy's hat, you know the one with the bone toothpick in it. So if I have this straight. they both stand if front of the boxer and one throws punches making the boxer block duck and parry, all while the boxer throws punches at the other coaches pads. Hey, it worked for Rashi and Dametrius. Now about that drink.

Have you seen Willy without the hat on? It looks like he has a mohawk but it just the way he is going bald. Now I know why he always wear it.

Saw Willy without his hat and wearing a shirt with sleeves in Houston. I'm still in shock.

I missed the shirt sleeves and he even helped in my corner. would love picture of him without his hat in sleeves just to post. Dennis, things are moving forward and we are finalizing some paperwork so he will probably go before the end of the year.
