barry mcguigan vs naseem hamed the story
what if these 2 fighters met in thier prime????..here a wee story of what i think would happen.
prefight
the fight will take place at the millennium stadium wales , neutral ground in the summer. both fighters are confident , both are big punchers and the winner will be the uks best featherweight of the last 50 years. hamed as expected taunts mcguigan at every chance , barry as ever is gracious in accepting that hamed is a good fighter with a big punch. the uk public are totally behind mcguigan they like his mild mannered personality rather than the brash hamed.
hamed tries everything to upset mcguigan at the final weight in , both scale 9 stone and both look like they have made the weight easy. Hamed has trained in sheffield for this fight wheras mcguigan has spent his time in ulster before coming across the channel 2 weeks before the fight to en-dear himself to the welsh people.
at the final press conference hamed proclaims a 6th round ko , barry says he expects this to be hardest fight of his life even harder than pedroza.
the fight
mcguigan enters first to his rocky theme , he looks confident and the crowd of 60,000 give him an almighty roar as he enters the ring. hamed now makes his razzmatazz enterance , he is dancing his way to the ring to the song danny boy a jazzed up version - a final wind up to barry and his dad pat who will sing that anthem tonight.
the fight starts , hamed tries to start fast and lans some lunging punches , mcguigan moves back due to the assault but is very calm , he starts to get his jab moving , a weapon that makes hamed think as its constant in his face.
as the second round starts mcguigan is rocked by a staright right from the switch hitting hamed , he clinces well and survives the round by keeping close to hamed.
the mid rounds is mcguigan chasing hamed around landing body shots but not much head shots , hamed has success with counter rights which have cause mcguigans right eye to swell , after round 6 hamed is ahead by 4-2.
round 7 the fight changes as mcguigan hits hamed with his bolo punch , hamed hits the ground but is up quick , he then shows heart coming after mcguigan but just before the bell a solid right hand hurts hamed again.
hamed now is feeling the pace of mcguigans constan pressure , hamed is scoring with one punch shots but barry constantly has the jab in hamed face , this is now closing hamed left eye. after 10 rounds mcguigan is winning 6-4. mcguigans body shots are taking its effect.
the last 2 rounds are memorble , hamed floors mcguigan with a perfect uppercut in the 11 , he tries to ko the irish man in a desparate attempt to finish the fight , barry survies just. the 12th round starts off with hamed trying again to catch mcguigan but a perfectly times counter ( a left hook) puts hamed on the seat of his pants with 2 mins left , now barry goes for the ko buts its very ugly as both men are tired , hamed a little more though due to mcguigans pressure. as the bell goes both embrace in the middle of the ring.
the judges scores are...114-111 , 115-110 and 113-112 to the winner from clones barry mcguigan , the crowd go wild , hamed for a change is very gracious in defeat , mcguigan is just relieved and reveals how hamed is the hardest hitter he has faced.
post match
this fight is hailed as 1 of the best fights in british history , hamed wants a rematch , the public want a rematch but most respected boxing people think that mcguigan will beat up hamed more easy the next time....money talks though..hamed earns £2m for this fight whereas mcguigan earns £2m also in a fight that was shown on terrestial tv and had a viewing audience of 25million.
any thoughts on the above???

You didnt mention speed or power. I wonder why????boxerbob wrote:mcguigan had all the advantages for this fight....
better chin , workrate , longer reach and 3 inch height advantage , he would have no problem reaching hamed
Mcguigan to have his moments but Hamed would produce the stoppage around round 10.

I'd go for a close fight and I think a peak Mcguigan would wear down Naz. Hamed had trouble with Ingle and Mcculoch who had simular styles to Mcguigan but didnt hit as hard. Barrys body punches would cause Hamed trouble and his nonstop workrate would also cause him probs.... actually the more I think of this the more I lean to Mcguigan...

We are also talking about a peak Naz, he was past his best when he fought those two and still won easilysilkov wrote:I'd go for a close fight and I think a peak Mcguigan would wear down Naz. If we are making comparisons Ingle and McCulloch are much closer to McGuican than Naz is

Prime Naz stops the over-rated McGuigan within 8-9 rounds.

Funniest post I read in while. We go from one extreme where McGuigan is the most overrated fighter in British history to comparing him prime for prime against Naz by throwing up Billy Hardy (a good fighter in his BW days who gave Canizales a great tussle in the first fight) as an example of how this potential matchup would have went - thus grossly underrating the career FW in his prime. Absolutely laughable.
As for this mythical fight itself I don't know what the outcome would have been but I sure would have liked to have seen it. A prime McGuigan would have given Naz a torrid time - and this may seem controversial to some - would have been the best fighter outside of Barrera that Naz faced.
I doubt you've even seen many of Barrys fights!.........Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Barry is a contender for most over rated fighter in UK history, Naseem is probably the most under rated we've ever had.
Barry was never that hard to hit and Naseem would have an easy night putting him to sleep in maybe the 4th, or whatever

I agree, it's as though it has been written whilst masterbating.overhand_right wrote:One of the more bizarre posts on the forum...
I always find it weird when people go into such indepth detail about a mythical match up.
I think Lewis would beat Bowe, but i wouldn't have a clue exactly how it would unfold
