Dave's segment is slightly more difficult to film. 'Payne' doesn't actually live in 2009, he lives in an idealised, fictional part of Yorkshire circa 1951 and he divides his time between posing for wonderfully photogenic photos with his young family, managing the local football team and looking out for t'lads at the chuffin' factory.
It represented a logistical nightmare, truth be told, so they had to get Michael J. Fox to hop into his car, nip back in time and film the Payne segments. Unfortunately, Mike's 'condition' means that the resulting footage is a cross between Blair Witch and a Paul Greengrass film, you really do feel that you are there with him.
The voice over has been done by Brian Clough (for Payne) and Dick Emery (for Spud). Adam Smith makes the tea, the kitchen is two doors down so he is needed in this role so that the excited roar of, "Ohhhh! Ahhhh! Three sugars for Spud and it looks like a few grains may spill on the side! Amazing! Jim."
