so i just saw this fight from round 5 onwards on youtube via some guy who filmed his television.

From what I could see (not much) and if the first 4 rounds were anything like the next four, Dirrell seems to have nicked it by landing more in the last couple of rounds.

Abraham is going to annihilate Dirrell as his punching technique is better than Froch's and he will close the gap much better and tee off on Dirrell. I don't think Dirrell will be able to take the power of Abraham. Froch seemed to land one big shot this whole fight - and Dirrell actually took it well.

In my decidedly uneducated opinion, it was.

Moments ago I watched the fight on youtube and, I don't really know how else to put this, Dirrel just looked so much better during most of the exchanges. It was as if Froch was the one making the step up in class rather than vice versa.

Dirrel's advantages in mobility, head movement and sharpshooting were abundantly clear for all to see. Conversely, I just don't understand, tactically, what it was that Froch actually did to warrant such a clear victory on his winning scorecards.

I wonder if this result doesn't harm the overall credibilty of the super six tourney?

I watched from BLOCK14 and had froch winning fairly easy.... maybe his flurrys on the ropes werent landing as clean(obviously you can see alot better through the TV camera) as they looked.[/quote]

I think that is the case, on TV it was pretty clear Froch was landing absolutely Eff all.

Add in the fact that every time someone cheers - the judges get influenced, and I think we have our explanation.

This is why I've argued time and again that judges should have noise cancelling headphones, and watch it on a monitor.

First time i've had a chance to log in since got back from Notts and I cant believe the amount of people who believe Dirrell won. I was scoring the fight and I had it to Froch by 4 rounds :o. It would have been a travesty if Dirrell won the WBC belt fight fighting like that. Everyone around me was amazed that it went to a split decision although got to say some of the feckers near me were the worse for wear . Fair enough Dirrell threw the best punches of the fight but no way was that enough to win it IMO. Really shocked By all this.

I would also like to add that if Dirrell fought the whole fight like he did the last 3 rounds then he could well be in with a chance in this competion.

Ian, sorry if you have mentioned it lots of threads/posts and I might have missed it.... how did you score the fight.
I'm going to download it and have a fresh look...watching it totally knackered at 2.30am might indeed have had an adverse effect. :TU:

This fight has really polarized opinions.

One one hand there is a crowd saying Dirrell clearly won.

One another hand there is a crowd saying Froch definitely nicked it.

Then there is a crowd saying that the fight could have gone either way.

What's funny about it is that the Dirrell winning crowd are ADAMANT that he won, just as the Froch crowd are.

It's all subjective really. Personally I think the fight was close, especially with the point deduction. I couldn't argue either way. People who feel very strongly about the decision being a robbery or the decision being fair are a bit ridiculous imo.

i agree with you pretty much opticald

it also seems like the people who were there think froch won and people who watched on tv think Dirrell won

but then, people who will stump up cash to watch froch, may not all be pristinely unbiased?

i like Carl, I like all he stands for prepared to fight anyone, and give i ago, proper throwback, however Dirrell wont his by three rounds min,it wasnt close.

Watched it on a decent stream at 9 .30 pm here so no fatigue wasnt even drinking.

Carl was awful, truly awful, he had no clue how to deal with Dirrell's fast feet, less of a clue how to deal with his fast hands. Dirrells work off the ropes had Carl bamboozled and he rarely threw a punch that landed in the same postode.

Froch had no pan b and looked amatuerish.

Dirrell by three rounds.

Embarrassed to a brit fight fan when they announced the scores. Not only this if Dirrell had applied more pressure at certain times in the fight he would have ko'd carl who was buzzed more than once.

Im not gonna write carl off though, could just be styles make fights and it was a bad night at the office for him but he really was outclassed.

Now for Dirrell I think he has got a lot of bad press , he outboxed outthougt and imo beat a seasoned world champ in his 18th fight, often making him look stupid all this away from home, yes he fought a little negative at times but really, some of the stuff he did in there we praise the likes of Pernell as defensive masters...his work off the ropes and footwork had real class about it.

bad night for brit boxing imo.

Sadly the more of these decisions I see, the less I care for the sport.

Great post.

And then what bugged me was the posts on here saying "we're due a hometown decision" cause its the good old warrior Froch.

No-one or no-country is due one... in many ways we've been given the benefit of the doubt more times than US fighters coming here. Hatton, Lewis and JC all had close victories in the states. Glen Johnson, Inchin Chi, amongst others all must feel aggrieved by fighting in the UK.

i am generally speaking (though lennox outboxing tua is imo one of his best performances) and BHOP uis one of my fave fighters so....not always...however if the come forward fighter managers to land any punches then fine, fact is Carl spent most of the night lunging at thin air like some kind of novice 9 year old.

he looked slow, clueless and outclassed.

Good post.

The thing that irks me, is that the people who actually believe Froch won, can't put forward a case for why he deserved the victory. Focus has been directed on how 'negative' Dirrell was, and that the didn't deserve to be champion because of this.

Dirrell won the fight by a few rounds in my opinion. Not a Dick Turpin but he boxed well and Froch didnt do much in the fight and he lost the first four and the last three or four rounds in my opinion.

Precisely, it's almost like direll should automatically lose, unless he does something dramatic, whereas all Carl has to do is do nothing, and he wins by default.

Carl threw shit all, landed even less, and generally was made to look incredibly clumsy and amateurish, at no point was he in control of the fight, except for the two rounds where he held Direll behind the head and fouled him repeatedly.

I haven't seen this fight yet but the more I read posts like this one the more I think that I don't even need to see it to know who won.
I was on the Yank to take Carl out at 13/2 and although he didn't stop him he has clearly been better in virtually every department.
