That's actually a good point. Though you must also consider that Mundine holds a victory over Green.

And Mundine is not really any smaller than Green. Mundine has looked like death warmed up at middlewieght and couldn't even make weight for his last contracted fight.

I wonder what his playing weight was when he played League? (I reckon Brute might know)

I reckon there is a good chance that Mundine not draining would be pretty close to Green not draining...

mundine playing weight was apporx 86kg people, so cruiser shouldnt be a prob.
i know there is gonna be a call that the extra weight will be an issue, but im sure he must have been doing pleny of boxing training the last yr he was playing and there would have been plenty of the same skill/speed he has now, otherwise y did he change sports from one where he knew could clean up 250k-500k per yr for another 4-5 yrs almost guranteed, to goto one where yes he has succeeded, but if he didnt wouldnt have made really any money out of it, pretty big gamble.
mundine is just running scared cos he know he'll get the same treatment as rjj

Mundine was on around 600 thousand a year before leaving league, so he must make more than that a year or he would have quit.

Totally, the 79kg catch weight was really fair IMO.

Mundine says now he could not play league now because of a hip injury that makes it hard to run. I wonder if the hip was on the way out when he was playing?

pls correct me if im wrong, but wont mundines name be on the same charity forever as well???
Yes. But it's not a particularly good offer to Mundine, who is not exactly in love with Danny Green, to have a jointly named charity. Danny appears to have made this decision without consulting Mundine.

one thing that the weight will niot fix is the way green had trouble landing on mundine.. is mundine still having problems with that eye?

I think 79kg is a fair weight, as it is (just) under the LHW limit, and Green has been fighting as a (small) cruiserweight since his return. As aforementioned, Mundine weighed 86kg when he played league, which is heavier than Green has ever fought at. Green is the naturally bigger man (he's a natural LHW, Mundine a SMW), but it isn't as big a difference as the JMW(pft)-CW gap suggests.

Weight will certainly make a difference in the competitiveness of the fight, but p4p1 is correct that a major factor in the first fight was Green's inability to land a punch on Mundine. While Green may be a smarter, stronger fighter today, he is no quicker or more accurate than SMW Danny Green. If this fight were to take place at this weight, I'd favour a Green KO or TKO win in the middle rounds, with Mundine making him look silly at times. I'd be interested to see how a 79kg Mundine would perform, perhaps the extra weight would greatly improve him?

I believe he is quicker and more accurate at the bigger weight. Just seems that that's where he's physiologically more comfortable, and thus more athletic. Generally cutting weight is good, but some boxers overdo and it saps strenght and energy, and Green, late in his SMW career was doing this. Plus at the bigger weight he'll have more intimidation and bully factor, which helps you control the ring and thus land punches.

if u r naturaly fit at a certain weight, putting on or taking off makes a difference, if its a large amount it makes a bigger difference

Mundine played at about 86kg, which is small for a five eight now. Most of them are around the 100kg mark. He can't play now because his hip is stuffed.

I agree with P4P1 on this one, If Green still has trouble landing on Mundine he won't win the fight. He cannot go into it just looking for the Ko. He needs to get Mundine worried and in a very defencive Fight ( Like Kessler Did). Otherwise Mundine will Box his way to a UD Win IMO.

The weight will make the fight closer as Green looked very Weight drained in the first fight, And has looked much better at the Higher weights. But I still see a Mundine Win.

You talk some complete shit - Do you know Archie Moore, Emile Griffith, Joe Frazier, Jack Johnson, Azumah Nelson, Sam Langford etc etc - boxed on your shores - the likes of Archie Moore and Sam Langford actually lived in Australia.

Boxing was around before you took an interest in it! Stick to talking about rugby league!

Son, it might be best if you attempted to try and look less foolish. If you believe your ability to study history makes you relevant, then think again. Studying and understanding are completely different things, perhaps your history teacher should have pointed that out. If you do not consider RJJ to be either the most successful or influencial boxer to visit these shores then I believe you are incorrect. To compare Azumah to RJJ...struth, you lost the audience there mate. I remember all of his visits to these shores and his last, in particular, was a massive standout.

I have read your opinions, but as they so often miss the mark when refering to Australian boxing, they are very rarely worth entertaining.

And as for me talking about Rugby of any sort...well, you really don't know what you are talking about do you. A barb could not have been thrown in a less accurate direction.

oh, and sorry for not using any smilies to get my point accross.

Are you trying to say that Roy Jones Jr was a greater fighter than Archie Moore, Emile Griffith or Sam Langford? As for Azumah Nelson - he was one of the great feather and super featherweights of all time and certainly for my money the best featherweight of his generation - In fact probably the best fighter in boxing around 1984-85. I would certainly put Jones Jr on par with Nelson on a bad day.

How is Jones Jr career more historically significant than Jack Johnsons career?

I am not saying Jones Jr didn't have the potential legacy to become a great fighter - its just big losses to Tarver, Green and Calazghe has put him as a 'nearly great' You could argue Joe Frazier had a similar legacy to Jones - though I would say Fraizer only lost to two of the greatest heavyweights in history, I am probably being a tad unkind to Joe Fraizer.

Was Jones Jr the greatest fighter ever to visit Australia - the anwser is no. :shame:

Therefore you are wrong. 8)
