Miguel Vazquez is far more than 'nothing special' he is in fact a very good fighter.
To start with the ring magazine have in their top 5 at lightweight.
He is only 23 and lost to two fighters.
One being to Tim Bradley on points, the premier light welter.
The other man to better him is the so called next big thing out of Mexico, the unbeaten 'welterweight' Saul Alvarez, and one of his defeats to Alvarez was a split decision.

? I don't get the point.
Journalists often use something not quite related to the point as emphasis. There's nothing wrong with it and to dispute it is pedantic, imo.

I thought Bennie was referring to Prescott's power and to dispute that is certainly not pedantic.

When someone uses something irrelevant to make a feat appear more impressive then it is, I don't seem the harm in mentioning it.

Ya, Vasquez is a solid fighter and he clearly beat Prescott and busted him up like a top ten fighter would. Toledo and Abril, who are not close to the top ten also provided Prescott with lots of trouble and a lot of people thought Abril did enough to get the decision.

Prescott had Vasquez down early and only lost via a split decision and 1 point on the two judges cards..
Abril was an unbeaten former cuban amateur standout when Prescott defeated him.
Added to that his one round destruction of Khan makes Mitchell's boxing clinic over him very impressive.

Vasquez clearly won the fight, the one point win for Prescott on one card was unjustified and serves as an example of a bad score card. Watch the fight again and explain to me how that card was fair.

Abril was a good amateur but has accomplished nothing as a pro and just lost again, so I don't see how that makes him anything as a professional.

Humberto Toledo had been stopped in four of his five losses, blown away in one by Lamont Peterson, and yet Prescott couldn't get him out of there with his power punches and was actually taking a lot of shots in the final round.

Look, I'm not denying Mitchell's win over Prescott was impressive. It certainly was. However it was an impressive performance against a fringe contender who is not in the same league as Katsidis. I think that has to be taken into account as well when we are discussing the upcoming fight.

Alot of people are going crazy over Mitchell right now because he has looked good in his last two fights, but Katsidis has looked equally impressive against a higher level of competition and has only been beaten by the best of the best at 135, and both times was competitive.

My point is that while Mitchell is a very good boxer, I think the calls of the mid round knockouts and routine wins are based on very little solid evidence. I suspect Mitchell will look to box smart against Katsidis, and if he wins it will be a close decision, not a quick or one sided knockout performance.

I knew you or someone would name Maloney - I honestly think "Little Frank" is better to deal with and "appears" more approachable - however with regards top quality shows - maybe the top of the bill but right way through the card??

Mr W arren has quality fighters throughout his stable and with his "Olympians" theme regularly puts on "quality" shows throughout the card - now please not doing this to be picky - but you name Maloney as viable opposition - can you name the shows that have had the SAME quality throughout the card that Mr W arren has in his shows??
I didn't mention Maloney as "opposition", just in answer to your question about consistency.

No, Maloney does not directly "oppose" Warren because aside from his time with Lennox, he's never had a star as big as those Warren has had. But let's just say I've got 40 quid in my pocket - I'd feel I'd get more for my money on a Maloney show than a Warren one, and that goes for the whole card as well as distance from the ring.

Obviously some big fights are unmissable events, and it can be worth spending 50 or 100 quid to even be up in the gods just to say you were at a part of history, and in that regard Warren wins, but for an average Friday/Saturday night out, Maloney wins.

exactly. oh and edit, I would be betting on Katsidis if i had to bet on anyone here.

i agree about prescott's credentials. also, prescott planned to move up to light welter. he had givne up on lightweight. chances are mitchell beat a weight weakened prescott. givne prescott's decision to move up to 140, it must have been fvcking lucky to make this a WBO 135 elim. mitchell boxed agood, disciplined fight. but he spent much of the contest running or hitting gloves and seemed happy with this. in a different country, this could have been a narrow/close win for mitchell, in spite of his good boxing in the 2nd half of the bout.

I agree

He's good, for sure, but he has mixed in the same level as Katsidis at all.

"Alot of people are going crazy over Mitchell right now because he has looked good in his last two fights" :shame:

Most people who have followed Mitchell's career are going "crazy" because they already know what he is capable of and are impressed with the more mature and polished approach to his work.

The people who get on there high horses because of a bit of enthusiastic, predictive boxing banter make me wanna' scream :witzend: Thats what boxings all about..FFS..get a grip.... now everyone's an expert; remember the bookies are full of pot-less "experts"
a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing in the wrong head!

Does anyone honestly believe Michael Katsidis is being underestimated by the people who really matter like Kevin Mitchell, Jimmy Tibbs and his team...er......NO! of course he's not :bag:

Let's hope Kat and his team are underestimating Mitchell :box:......:KO:........

C'mon Kev..........Mitchell........Mitchell.........Mitchell.......................................

I'm outta here.

Remember Mitchell stepped up to lightweight for this fight after long layoff with a potential career ending injury; With this, Prescott's rep after the Khan demolition and most people writing Mitchell off: The crude but powerful and intimidating Prescott had a huge psychological advantage.

This was nothing less than excellent display from Mitchell whichever way you slice it :box:
And i predict Mitchell will keep surprising the doubters.

I tell ya this kids the real deal :TU:

I'm not really doubting Mitchell's ability, he is very good. It wouldn't surprise me if Mitchell puts on another impressive performance and wins the belt and it wouldn't surprise me if Katsidis has a little to much and comes out on top. Very evenly matched fight in my opinion.

Katsidis will win by KO. I hadnt heard of Mitchell, So i just watched a bit of him on Youtube, He is no were near the Level Katsidis is fighting at.

And some of you forget, Katsidis got dropped early in 2 fights, He came back to be in front on the score cards in the Casamayor fight, and stop Earl. Also Earl took a horrible beating in that fight and im not sure how you can get any positives out of it apart from the Knockdown after the ref through out the Towel Earl's corner threw in..
