there was a row of pizzed up cockneys two rows behind me in section 110. Talking coke, screaming absolute bs even in there was a fight on or not, dropping the n-bomb left right and centre - stewards didnt want to know.

I got a pretty good job and work with all middle class rugby union and cricket supports (which is unusual 'up norf') and it was embarrassing to hear their stories of the night as well because they know i am a big boxing fan.

Back home now and I really angred by what barker fans were singing. Darren does not need fans like that. Chris evangelou sold as many tickets but his fans were good as gold. When main fight finished barker Chelsea fans moved in.

Wow, I didn't see the fight but surprised Barker had it so difficult. I'll have to see the fight to comment, but if he hard a very hard fight with Belgecham, I think fights with Macklin and Lee are extremely difficult for him.

Barker is hugely overhyped

a poser nothing more

stiff and upright

will cut torn apart at top level

Barker started out beautifully, but fair play to the Frenchman as he was a gutsy bleeder and came on stronger and stronger.

The incentive of the European title drove him on. Plus having 12 rounds and a good engine gave him a better crack at it than 8 or 10 rounds that he's previously fought.

I thought some of the back peddalling at the end did him no favours, but I suppose when there is a prize on the line - and previous fight ended in last-gasp knockout, why mess about?

All in all it was a quality show last night with plenty of action across the board.

No problem, mate. It's a passionate game. I don't like images flashing through my mind of being in men's arses though. :TU:

The only way to resolve this Barker / Lee argument is in the ring - but I just can't see it happening.
Styles do make fights and it is not the correct procedure to compare how these two did against the same opponent.
If Lee's performance against the same man was better doesn't mean he's better than Barker.
Give you an example.
Have you ever seen a worse face than Lockett's after the beat down against Tsarenko ? - subsequently avenged.
Rhodes conceded a stone to Tsarenko and beat him comfortably.
That didn't translate into an easy night for Rhodes against Lockett.Lockett prevailed.
There are numerous examples where this "form line" to boxing just doesn't work.
I don't think the last few months have been easy for Barker.
Inactive and with a Promotor who has no TV deal, after having got the great build up from ITV.
Hope the fight happens but have my doubts.

The difference between the Lee - Belghecham fight and the Barker - Belghecham was that the frenchman was throwing a lot more punches in the Barker fight, but never hurt Barker. When Belghecham came on strong against Lee he had him hurt and Lee was lucky to escape. Yeah Barker wasn't his best tonight, and he'll admit that. But, as Nicky Piper said afterwards Barker was the dominant fighter. I still believe Barker can learn from this fight, and go on to win a world title.

Your gaff on Lee and Barker -
DuranTheGreat wrote:Lee beat Mckay on points. Barker stopped him in the sixth. Basing it on boxing ability I don't understand how you could say Lee is superior.... Barker is quicker, more precise and would have Lee out of there inside twelve rounds.
DuranTheGreat wrote:Barker would give Lee a boxing lesson. Simple
DuranTheGreat wrote:I just can't see Barker losing to Macklin. I think Barker will surprise a lot of people. People said he couldn't punch, and then went on to he stop a boxer that had never even been floored before amateur or pro (Mcdermott). Even though the fight might of been stopped too early, how many more right hands did Mcdermott want to take. When Barker gets his right hand going he just doesn't miss. I'd say he's deffo EU level, and we'll have to see whether he can make it to the very top.

The reason Belghecham threw more punches last night was because Barker decided to trade with him on the inside whereas Lee kept him on the outside and outboxed him for 8 and a half rounds. I know it's easy to say now but if Belghecham had a punch, Barker could easily have been stopped last night, was getting hit far too often. It's my second time watching Barker and where all this 'future world champion' stuff comes from really baffles me, maybe I'm missing something but I doubt it. Macklin would have made bits of him last night and in my opinion, Duddy would have given him a run for his money aswell. Would have been the Derry Destroyers type of fight.

Yeah, Barker was not at his total best in the second half of the fight, but he got the job done without getting hurt (unlike Lee).... In the first half of the fight Barker was maintaining the centre of the ring and was picking off Belghecham at ease, but yeah he did get a bit complacent and start to let Belghecham come forward, but Barker was constantly moving and knew that he had done what he needed to do to win the European title, and once again make the next step towards the world stage.

Man you are deluded!

You first came on here screaming about Witter being the No.1 P4P great until he got beaten by Bradley and you did a dissapearing act. Then you come back and start shouting about Barker - at least that expose didnt take long.

Affif didnt land a glove on Lee go 9 and a half rounds and strung Lee with 10 seconds to go - Lee wasnt hurt, his legs didnt buckle, he didnt go against the ropes - he tied Affif up and rode out the last 10 seconds of the fight - whereas Barker got literally battered for 6 whole rounds.

Gain a little perspective mate sure last night must have given you some. Give Lee credit where it is due for totally outboxing Affif in a way Barker failed to do!

Ive not seen the Frenchie until last night if im honest. He was better than his record suggested. Like an Abraham, minus the punch.

I imagine both fighters found someone better than they anticpated when looking at his record.

To play devil's advocate, the Frenchie is definitely more suited to 12 rounds fights if he is the type to gain more and more momentum. Wheras Andy boxed him over 10.

Was lee really that rattled in the 10th or just a bit knackered ? he seemed to hurt Barker with some shots, but nothing concussive looking.

A bit of both I guess. But like I have said before majority of the people that are saying that Lee was in trouble are those that were trying to justify Affif as a credible opponent in the first place.

Lee completely outboxed him and controlled him in the fight. I think he might have got a little lazy in the second half of the final round because he knew he had won every round before that - if it was a 12 round fight I doubt Lee would have switched off in the 10th - he would have waited until the 12th

i dont understand why barker didn't box him..he tried to make a fight out of it and thst isn't his style, i still think he can go onto world honours but won't do it by standing right infront of his opponents

the last punch of the lee vs belgencham fight lee nearly wen't down, he was out on his feet, if it was a twelve rounder the affif would have ko'd lee, lee ran out of gas in the 9th

Lee was in very bad trouble in my opinion. In the closing seconds he got hit with a monster punch and had to hold on for his life. 10 more seconds and he would have been down, no question. He wouldn't have lasted 12 rounds. I think you need to be more realistic about that fight mate. Lee was in control for the majority but the last 2 rounds, especially the last, he was in terrible trouble and wouldn't have lasted 12 like Barker did.

However, Barker in my opinion, is overhyped. He isn't the boxer he is being hyped up to be. Whether it was stupidity to fight that fight or the fact that he just couldn't fight any other fight, the fact remains that he had massive trouble with Belgecham. However, he was never in the trouble Andy Lee was in and in my opinion Barker won the fight.

As for a Barker Lee fight, it's still interesting. Styles make fights and it would be a boxing match, not a brawl, although Barker has shown that he can fight on the inside, which Lee hasn't. I'd take Barker to beat him, but not really confident in that pick. I think they are around about evenly matched, I just think Lee is softer than Barker, kind of like the way I think Kessler is softer than Froch. In an evenly matched fight, I'll take the harder man.
