Will this fight happen? Would Macklin want to work with Warren again?

i'm a fan of macklin and i think he throws some brilliant punches and has good offensive skills.
but it hought it was macklin and hatton who didn't pursue a barker fight when one was the mandatory for the other's title. we know it's a business nd all that but now suddenly we're supposed to believe barker is the ducker?
also, what's happening with macklin v geale?
i agree with smigga that macklin could break barker down. but then again, as polished and hard hitting as he is, i wonder if macklin has the steam if it goes late. in his last irish fight he landed brilliant shots, had rafael sosa pintos badly hurt several times, and could not finish him, looking tired and frustrated through the entire second half (by contrast he was brillaint when the opponent was basically finished by the early KD and follow up assault). barker's too good to be knocked out in the first half (i believe) and i wonder if macklin would fade if it goes late. what few ppl are acknowledging is that both fighters showed vulnerabilities in their last fight.

I'm assuming Alledgedly hasnt had a proper deal for a while and is trying to secure attractive fights (regardless of whether he promotes them) to get in Skys good books for the new season.

what, for barker-macklin?
i suppose it's better them fighting for a european title than - as was the case last time it could have happen - just the british.

I would say it will happen but if macklin gets offered a shot at the IBF or an eliminator he will drop this and go for that.

Why does Hennessy keep bidding for fights?

Probably because he doesn't want Barker to take this fight. Good thing Wazza has this fight. I am getting a slight feeling we may see it in Ireland with Frankie Gavin going for an Irish title. Mild guess but you never know.

i wonder if they can try and get macklin v barker made into an elim as well. it's just about good enough a fight and would certanly raise the stakes.
re the IBF shopt. yes, everyone wants to fight the IBF champ, sylvester, because as world champs go he's the weakest there's been at middleweight for a good 5 years.
i wish someone would step up and fight the excellent sergio martinez. 4 prospects are gunning for vacant belts (pirog v jacobs, golovkin v nijkam sort of) and there seem to be no takers to fight the real champ, which is an example of how the sport's fragmenttion really can eff things up.

Actually I think people are getting their knickers in a twist.
Its Macklin thats is stating he is Irish - not me. I am happy to accept that he is Irish if he legitimately claims to be. Frankie Gavin is in an almost identical situation to Macklin.
1. Matthew Macklin - he is from Brum his Ma is from Tipp and his Da is from Roscommon, he fought for England as an amatuer international and won an English ABA title - but he considers himself primarily Irish - therefore in my book he is.
2. Frankie Gavin - Gavin's situation/credentials are almost to Macklins - he is from Brum his Ma is from Tipp and his Da is from Kerry, he fought for England as an amatuer international and won an English ABA title - but to my knowledge doesnt consider himself primarily Irish - therefore in my book he isnt. Thats doesnt mean I wont watch him a little keener than others - I will and I wish him well - good luck to the lad.
Im irish through and through and follow boxing in Ireland,i or boxing people in Ireland cant get our heads around this Mathew Macklin irish/english thing.
Over here they say Mathew uses his dual citizenship to good effect,ie;when he fights in England he is an Englishman from Brum and when he fights in Ireland or the States he is Irish.
Just a few points on the above, when Mathew fought fot the British title,he was a Brummie, when he fought for the European title he walked behind the union jack and was also from Brummie, when he retained his title in Ireland he was from Tipperary???????
Cant get my head around it but i will say this without sounding political no irishman worth his salt would ever walk behind a union jack.
As for John Duddy,he was born and raised in Derry in Northern Ireland and he classes himself 100% irish, you will never see john duddy walk behind a union jack for any title shot.
As for Andy Lee,he was born in London to Irish parents and came back to ireland in his teens,GB wanted him to fight for them in the Olympics in Athens but fought with Ireland as he regards himself 100% irish and would also never walk behind a union jack, hope this clears up a few points.

We are all aware how a lot of you hate Britain and the union flag and how crap it is to be walking near one but why can't Macklin be Irish and British? His parents are Irish and he was brought in Birmingham - isn't Macklin's identity for his to choose?
I am Welsh and Peruvian but brought up in Wigan - can anyone top that? I don't think so!

Seriously now, you like boxing. You upload fights to youtube but have you ever taken a punch?
Please for the interest of half the forum reading your constant insults of professional boxers tell us whether you actually box?
I'm a professional fighter and have been boxing since I was 9 years old and I wouldn't call any fighter a bum.

So to crystallise the thread, Macklin originally viewed Barker as maybe a guy he felt he could possibly beat, but that he was a serious banana skin that could derail his world title ambitions, so side-stepped it.
Now his big-fight opportunities have not materialised, combined with a lacklustre display by Barker against a tougher than expected opponent, he has now decided to grab the nettle.
With regards his nationality... fair play to him. If he wants to try and embrace some of that Irish fan base, despite he was born and bred in Brum, then that's his prerogative. Naturally some Irishmen will see straight through this angle - but many will blindly embrace it and argue his credentials to the death (when in truth they will privately admit it's a tad cynical).
With regards the match-up itself, whilst Macklin is a strong guy and serious puncher early doors, Barker is very tidy and elusive early doors himself. Both have shown a slow-down in the later rounds.
Amin and Elcock played straight into Macklin's impressive power, wheras Barker will be much tighter and careful.
The longer the fight goes on, the stronger Barker's chances are for nicking a points win grow for me - especially if Macklin goes looking to throw power shots, aiming for a stoppage win.
Macklin will rightly be the bookies favourite given his accomplishments, but Barker is a very live underdog.
All in all a good fight and one I'm pleased Macklin has now taken. May the best man win !

Eh that's slander...
Frank usually put's a bid in that's just right when he wants a fight.. Remember Smith Vs Quigley..
Maloney 60'000
FW 61'000 If I remember correctly?? The man is an astute business man, Some say the best in the business, I for 1 would agree..

Hennessy beat him for Cleverly vs McIntosh did he not ?
It's all irrelevant really as long as the fighters earn a crust and it gets made.
It gets ugly when its an arranged fight, not a bid and they all want options.
