I wonder how genuine the hatred is?Sure, there is genuine needle but they had a lot of good years together first. On the advert i was on about they looked like they were hamming it up a bit for the cameras.

Just a note about the undercard.
Do Hayemaker and Hearns have enough fighters to make a decent undercard?
Just a thought but how about a Prizefighter competition on the undercard, don't mind what weight class as long as they could get some decent boxers to take part. Never seen one live so would be cool to be in the crowd for one and i'd rather see it then have some garbage fight for the vacant commonwealth title that turns into a 12 round borefest. At least the Prizefighter would get the crowd involved and keep the atmosphere lively for the main event.

I wonder what the Odds are for Sam Peter, Shannon Briggs and Audley all winning their Heavyweight Title fights by stoppages? must be something like 100-1, worth a sneaky fiver maybe.

Peter and Audley are worth a shot. But Briggs has no chance. Wladimir and Haye have shown they can be hurt, dropped and stopped. Vitali however, has never been lacking in the chin department.

I agree with you about that but a win on cuts is possible if the Cannon can keep landing on Vitali's face. Kevin Johnson peppered him with a few punches and left his face pretty messy and Briggs hits a hell of a lot harder but the question is whether he'll even land anything significant on Klitschko which i doubt but hey its a punt.

What a Joke of a fight.
Audley Harrison fighting for a World Title.
Haye has gone to new lows fighting this sort of bum. How can you defend against Michael Sprott's sparring partner? Unbelievable!.
I don't remember Lennox Lewis fighting people this bad and certainly not on PPV.
If you pay the money then you need putting down. What a joke of a fight.

What the hell are you on about?
I was asking because I just watched the video, and I couldn't remember the last time two black fighters fought each other for the heavyweight title, and that was the last one I could remember.
You were just watching a video and couldn't remember?

hitman_hatton1 wrote:your trying to say hatton was defending a world title when he had the wbu belt.
it was a title that had no standards whatsoever.
the wba is supposed to be more above board than that.
it just shows how bad the big 4 sanctioning bodies have now got.
this fight shouldn't even be sanctioned.
hatton was 26 when he fought for the real world title.
i believe haye was 27.
and he wasn't beaten by a 39 yr old on the way thru either.

I am not saying Hatton was a world champion when he defended his world title belt - he thought he was world champion when he won and defended the WBU title, sky sports did, the promoter who can't be named did and finally you did - you forget the crap we had to read off you everytime you posted on DHB. As did all his fans who came to his fights.
Is the WBU any worse than the WBC or WBA - who knows and who cares! It is like comparing two turds and asking which one smells nicer.
Stop using age to compare fighters - Mike Tyson was 20 when he won his first world title. There are plenty of more examples to choose from. And I will give Haye this - he didn't fight the cruiser/heavyweight version of John 'Mental Midget' Bailey.

sg1985 wrote:James Toney-Hasim Rahman fought for the wbc in 2006, any more recent?
Peter-McCline if you include interim titles. Toney-Rahman was the last 'full' world championship fight between two black boxers. Liakhovich won the WBO title in early 06 and lost it to Briggs. Briggs lost it in his first defense (2007) against Ibragimov, who then lost to the current champ Wlad. After Peter beat Maskaev (a fight which came right after Peter-McCline) to become full WBC champion, Vitali beat him, and he has held the title since. The WBA belt was passed around between Ruiz, Valuev, and Chagev, and now Haye will be defending against a black boxer for the first time. Wlad beat Byrd for the IBF title in early 2006 and has held it since.
ps: I really need to brush up on my HW knowledge. For some reason I though Ibragimov was the IBF champion and won the title against Ray Austin

Wilfred Benitez knocked out one of the all time greats in Antonio Cerevantes for the WBA world light welterweight title when he was 17 YEARS OLD!

So don't give me all that guff about 23 year old Ricky Hatton defending his world title against the flotsam and jetsam of boxing - there is no excuse except it is a sign of the times.
i think you'll find it was a split decision points win.
although i do agree it was a great achievement.
![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)
I think you'll find that the boxrec search database makes people on here smarter than what they are.

I know for a fact you have no idea who Antonio Cerevantes nor Wilfred Benitez are and if asked to write a short biography about them WITHOUT looking it up on the boxrec database you would have trouble writing a sentence about them.
It was a spilt points win - I mistook Aaron Pryors win over Cerevantes for Benitez. Oh well - thats what happens when you rely on your memory and the fact still remains - Benitiez was 17 when he beat one of the finest light welterweight champions in history - how many seconds do you think Mental Midget would have lasted with Benitez - in fact - how many minutes would Ricky Hatton last with Wilfred Benitez?

I don't know the man, in fact never been to England, but I defy any of you who call him a bum to get down to his gym and do a few rounds with the man.
He is more worthy of a title shot than our Anthony Mundine Jr. In fact as worthy as our Micheal Katsidis or Lionel Rose or Lester Ellis or Barry Micheal, yet look at how they went.
A bum is a down and outer fighting for some cash to survive, a stiff is someone, probably delusional, fighting some one who is a sure thing to pound them in a round or two, Audley Harrison fits neither of these bills.
P.S. I like Hayes for this fight and am a bit of a fan.
Nice to see an Aussie posting on a "foreign" board, especially when the topic is not about Green or Katsidis!

I can almost guarantee that over the next 8-10 weeks the nation will be aware of this fight and everyone from Auntie Jean to Donald the postman will have asked you, as a boxing fan, what you think.
It's going to be huge.
My girlfriend is in an airport going to australia today, she saw the yellow bar on sky in the lounge about the fight and sent me a text saying "audley harrison lol". she knows nothing about boxing, she once asked me about amir hammed.
i was speaking my mates this weekend who are casual sports fans. watch valuev but not ruiz. watched hatton vs mayweather but not hatton vs pacquiao. when i told them audley one of them looked at my shocked and one of them laughed.
i havent seen a posative reaction to this fight from one friend or family member.
if you no who audley harrison is, you know how bad he is. just because you have heard of someone doesnt mean your going to pay £15 to watch it.
You're right in some respects - the average Joe Public probably has an even lesser opinion of Harrison than informed fans. BUT...
Give it two months of trash talking, loads of newspaper articles and TV appearances with lashings of soundbites, and those same people will start to buy into it.
Remember Tyson-Francis? Nobody had even heard of Francis when it was announced, but by fight night he was a household name in the UK and a lot of people had started believing in his chances, simply due to the power of the hype.

Just seen the pair of them on "daybreak".Wasnt it Haye who made such of a fuss over his sleep requirements when boxing Maccarinelli on a Fwank show?He refused to attend the press conference and said he was on "American time".Anyway,he regulary mentions sleep as a huge part of his training yet must have been up at least six to do this.He had his Sky box office logo showing though so it must have been worthwile
My initial thoughts from the first couple of days are that AH is seriously pissing DH off.He genuinely believes its his destiny whereas DH genuinely believes he shouldnt be in the same ring and its just a money making exercise.Adrian Chiles said its one of the biggest fights of all time!Somebody better tell HBO PPV!

It won't be a 1st round KO. Haye will stalk Harrison for the first round without throwing a meaningful shot. Against Ruiz it was different. He came forward, Audley will not. So I will be putting a fair lick of cash on a Haye KO2. It will probably be scarily similar to the Enzo Macc fight.
IMO.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned in one of the 437 threads regarding this fight but couldn't this end up being a good warm up for Haye? Harrison, although a southpaw, is a very tall fighter with a pawing jab who fights scared. To me that sounds like Wlad light. Also Haye has had 3 and a half heavyweight fights, sure he should probably have got a move on a bit more but he is still new to the heavyweight division.
Maybe i'm just turning into a glass half full kind of guy but given the exposure this fight is already getting, it's going to half a car crash appeal to most fans. I think with the money making potential, the verbal sparring we are going to have over the next couple of months, plus the fact that if Haye is going to fight a Klitschko next, a Harrison fight could be good prep????
Is this a loose, loose fight for Haye?

by geoffburt07
After watching the press confrence yestaday I noticed even David Haye doesn't think Harrison deserves a World title shot! But he's still fighting the 38 year old? So what if the fight brings thousands of new boxing fans, wouldn't fighting other top ten heavy weights in the world do that!? If Haye wins he looses because real boxing fans know its a gimme fight, it won't do nothing for his legacy. And if big Audley catch him with his big left hand and Haye get beat? Where does he go then?

Lets hope it is a loose, loose fight for Haye or he will be too uptight and get caught by Audley's famed left hand
