Sure, everyone has friends who aren't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he takes the cake.
I remember taking an afternoon off work to watch his Olympic effort and cheered him on with the rest of the nation, when he turned over to the paid ranks I was glad of another decent boxer joining the British line up.
Ive been to a couple of his fights in 2006 and cheered the lad on.
But since he withdrew from purse bids for Thaxton, claimed he sparred Murray and made him his bitch (they never shared a ring), ran over that poor chap and broke both his legs whilst doing 50+mph in a 30 zone and generally just been an utter tit I just began to find him really tedious and a waste of space.
Nowadays, I just find the whole package (team khan, his bum chums, penny pinching management and khan army) a bit of a joke and pathetic. By the time he got banged-out I was glad.
The way he dumped Oliver, dumped Warren who'd scraped him off the floor, declared he was leaving the UK cos were all racists and then starting giving it large on Tiwtter - just made me truly sick of the plank.

How f**king moronic do people have to be to think some meaningful percentage of boxing fans hate Khan because of his race?
You might as well ask if people hate Audley Harrison because he's black ffs.
Why do I keep hearing this shit? I hate Amir Khan because he's the epitome of a cotton wool wrapped
F*an* War**n fighter (do you see what I did there)
And now that he's presumably been forced to step up against Maidana (if it even happens) BOOM suddenly I hate him because he's thick, which is also a reason I'm allowed. then if he became articulate and stopped driving like an idiot and became humble and stopped calling out people he will never fight and became a thoughtful pundit and his family turned understated instead of hideously annoying and if he stopped calling people racist who hate him for the aforementioned other reasons and if he hadn't lost me a lot of money betting against him
then i might kinda like him

a boxer who is religious disrespects not just the sport but also himself......I've never heard so much tosh, think you need to re-think that.bluenoseshf wrote: I feel religious boxers disrespect themselves and the sport. Why do they train for months and hire the best coaches who work there bollocks off if it is god who helped them win. I like Khan....always have....despite all the bad stuff that gets peddled about him (I've only seen it on Boxrec) from what I've seen of him he comes across really well. Not so impressed with the driving stories mind you.
Now Naseem Hamed on the other hand I can't stand the fella. He seems like a right arrogant an ignorant f*cker to me. I was flicking through Calzaghe's autobiography the other day and reading the bit about Calzaghe, Hamed, Rhodes and Carl Thompson all travelling to the states together and flashing his bling as the only millionaire and taking the pee out of Thompson's clothes (according to the book)......it just seemed to confirm what I already thought.

Khan has brought a large percentage of Asian lads into gyms which is a good thing, the more the merrier and the fact young lads are putting an Amir Khan glove & bag set from Argos on their Santa list is another big plus.
Every generation has a boxer that got them interested in the sport... McGuigan, Tyson, Bruno, Hatton, Calzaghe, Khan...
So from that angle the whole 'Khan' thing deserves appreciation.

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I was asking about race. Religion was given as an option NOT race. Unlike the Jewish race, Muslims are not a race as anyone from any race can become a Muslim. Therefore anyone who hates someone just because they are a Muslim may be called a bigot but not necessarily a racist. In the case of Amir, hating him just because he was born into a Muslim family and is not even a strictly practicing one. I wonder what would happen if he grew a proper beard and started to wear a prayer cap like Danny Williams did once he became a Muslim.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:gizmo1 wrote:You seemed to be a little p*ssed off at someone, so who who are these 'f**king moronic people' who think Khan is hated because of his race? In my region(Yorkshire) there has been a large percentage of Asian lads in the gyms for years.Maybe Naz had a lot to do with it as in Leeds,Bradford,Sheffield etc there are loads of Asian schoolboys training. In fact, without Asians and Travellers the gyms would be struggling to carry on.G0mez wrote:Khan has brought a large percentage of Asian lads into gyms which is a good thing, the more the merrier and the fact young lads are putting an Amir Khan glove & bag set from Argos on their Santa list is another big plus.

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
There was not an option concerning race at all. I am the OP, and get fed up of the constant hating of Khan, so thought I would ask their reasons. One of the options was 'because he is a Muslim', and right or wrong as that may be, it is a true fact that this is the sole reason many do not like Khan. Muslims are not exactly flavour of the month in the UK are they, so it is ok to hate them, just as I hate other religions thrown in my face just as much for harbouring paedophiles.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:gizmo1 wrote:You seemed to be a little p*ssed off at someone, so who who are these 'f**king moronic people' who think Khan is hated because of his race? The other option was 'is it because he won a silver medal at 17, and is a champ at 23' ......as Coco said, jealousy option.
Other was 'is it because he got KTFO' .............many here condemn a fighter for a bad night
There was 1 or 2 others I cannot remember. Nothing malicious, it seems you are trying to turn this into a race thread?

You obviously have not READ THE FCUKIN THREAD! instead of just skimming it, as you will have noticed that I like & support Khan. I am asking why others do not. Yes, your right, you never mentioned race. I like Khan but his vulnerability makes me nervous and his next contest will make for very tense viewing indeed.
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I don't like him because he says things like this.Amir Khan wrote:"We will offer him Victor Ortiz on the undercard of my fight with Maidana. If he beats Ortiz, I will fight him. He’s not earned his name yet. The undercard of an Amir Khan fight would be good for him if we could get that."

There he goes again, on Twitter: "really tired. tough life".
I have no doubt it's tough being a pro boxer, but the fact it's made you a multi-millionaire at the age of 23 kind of takes away your right to complain about it IMO.
If you don't like it, go and do 9-5. There's a lot less of that horrible travelling around the world to tire you out.
I generally like & support Khan, but sometimes he annoys me.

just a bit of smack talk. I think he's right too in as much as I think he'd handle John quite comfortably. It's the speed and secondly the reach he has.Horse wrote:I don't like him because he says things like this.Amir Khan wrote:"We will offer him Victor Ortiz on the undercard of my fight with Maidana. Murray is a European level Lightweight, are we supposed to be impressed that Khan can beat him.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:just a bit of smack talk. I think he's right too in as much as I think he'd handle John quite comfortably. It's the speed and secondly the reach he has.
Why is he smack talking Murray anyway? He should be jiving Maidana if he is going to be slagging off anyone.

Like I said, I know it's tough being a boxer. But there are a whole lot of people who have it a whole lot tougher, and earn a whole lot less. A lot of these people are fans of his - if he wants to keep them, he needs to stop moaning.
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
Murray and his team have been calling for it since last year. They seem to think Murray will expose Khan. Murray's trainer Joe Gallagher says "I see Khan V Murray like Leonard V Hagler. Murray would be like Hagler - the hard workin tough guy from the streets and Khan the golden boy".Horse wrote:Who is calling for a Khan vs Murray fight? Yeah right. Hagler/Leonard my a*se.

Good boxer not sure about ever becoming a great. I don't think he's liked among hardcore fans because of his attitude and the fact he's training & boxing in the states.
