McCllelan was one of the scariest destroyers you’ll ever see - that win over Jackson .. The shots he took my God, no one was going to knock him out that night, and yeah I think that’s where the damage was probably first done. I’m pretty sure he complained about headaches in the interview after the fight.

Benn must’ve felt like his life was under threat going into the fight. No one gave him a chance. He probably assumed the G-man was on drugs too, although I’m not sure the Detroit man even needed that stuff, because he had the punch and chin to beat pretty much anyone.

Benn and his crew ( some real hard core criminals in there too ) must’ve thought all fair in love and war..he was definitely on the gear.

And he should’ve got knocked out in the first round, except for the bumbling useless ref.

Kevin Lueshing was boxing at the time, fighting Felix Trinidad a few years later…I think he became Nigel’s confidant/manager a few years later and probably got the full story of what happened then.

Yeah, that was the clip I saw & it confused me.

He wasn't even a British Champion when Benn & McClellan fought yet the sister is talking like he's a camp leader.

So is Kevin saying that Benn later admitted to him that he was on steroids or one of Benns team?

Or is Kevin just making that assumption or is he just making sympathetic noises to an obviously distressed woman?

Lueshing needs to speak out or he'll get the Beckham treatment in Beckenham.

She said Lueshing was his agent, maybe it wasn’t an official thing as they were very good friends so I assume just on the payroll in some way to help a mate out ?

It's funny (as in strange) how Leushing wheedled his way into Benn's life.

I remember going to a show in Bexleyheath in the 90s and Leushing was a complete unknown. He stopped Trevor Meikle in impressive fashion, the left hook clearly his pet punch.

Nigel Benn was ringside and later on I vividly recall Leushing approaching Benn like a starstruck schoolboy with that evening's programme in his hand and asking Benn to autograph it.

It was some years later that Leushing made certain representations on Benn's behalf, but I always felt there was something very opportunistic about Leushing's involvement with Benn.

I noticed Leushing a few times in Bromley and he always came across as a right poser.

I've approached all manner of professional boxers and enjoy talking to them & asking questions when chance meetings occur.... Wolverhampton's Tony Wilson in Moorgate, Billy Schwer in New York, Derek Angol in the Old Kent Road....but I can only think of a handful of boxers where I've looked the other way when the opportunity was there. Johnny Nelson, Bobby Vanzie...and Leushing. I just didn't like the vibes.

I remember listening to Lueshings interview with Tris Dixon on Boxing Life Stories, I found it a decent listen, from memory i seem to recall he had quite a traumatic life growing up

I just looked that up. It was at Crook Log. I used to go swimming there in the late 70s early 80s. Billy Bonds was often there with his kids but we left him alone

A young Johnny Armour on the bill too.

That's right. I went along to see Mickey Cantwell box an 8 rounder, who had a tough night with a young lad called Shaun Norman.

Nice one ! I think Bonds used to live in Lee around that time.

I saw Leushing fight a few times most notably when he got brushed aside by Harry Simon.

I always felt he was lucky to get a world title shot and very lucky to get 2 world title shots when you look at who he beat.

I once went to an unlicensed bare knuckle event in the hall by the Yorkshire Grey in Eltham. It was mainly a bunch of Travellers headbutting each other between punches. That was mid or late 80's. I have a vague fuzzy memory of my brother pointing out the Cantwell family saying they were ones to watch in the boxing world.

I may be getting that mixed up though.

Yeah, i went to various shows at the Yorkshire Grey. One of the unlicensed shows had a guy called Ted the Hat, who was all action, but apparently had a metal pin in his skull !

This question is unrelated to the thread but you might have the boxing knowledge to answer it. There was a fight I watched on Sky Sports once around the time of 1999-2002 probably, that happened in the UK, and the trainer told the fighter in the corner that the opponent didn't have a right hand (could have been left hand) and told him he didn't have to worry about that punch, he went out in the next round and got KO'd by the punch that the trainer told him the opponent didn't have. I think I recall Ian Darke on commentary. It's a long shot but I wonder if you remember who the fighters were, definitely Brit fighters and I think well known in the scene, for some reason Dean Pithie or the name Francis comes to mind but I could be completely wrong.

Escapes me I'm afraid and I used to watch a hell of a lot of boxing at the time.

I recall a similar situation in the Lennox Lewis vs Hasim Rahman rematch. Rahman's cornerman tells him "Anytime he opens up. Do this right here" He then proceeded to stick his arms out straight in front of him like a guy playing The Mummy "That stops everything"

This was the advice.

In the following round. Rahman did that right there, and got Knocked out by an overhand right that went right around his outstretched arms.

Sadly I'll probably live out my days without ever finding the fight. I have a similar situation with a song I used to hear 20 years ago. Very annoying things that grate at you in the back of your mind or perhaps its just me

That Lewis Rahman 2 corner advice is some of the all time worst advice I've seen. Hilarious how bad it was considering this was a heavyweight title fight that the entire world was watching.

To answer your queston I'm pretty sure it was two white Brits in the fight, English perhaps and the trainer was a white Brit too. I think it was in a lower weight class, but not entirely sure. I recall the disbelief in Darkes voice at the irony of the trainer telling the fighter the opponent didn't have that punch and not to worry about it only to be KO'd with it in the next round. I also remember Spencer Oliver pounding the canvas when someone was fighting and was down with a body shot and you could see Spencer Oliver pounding the canvas trying to get him to get up but the fighter ends up taking the count. I wonder if I could make a thread for things like this but I assume it's just me who has these annoying open loops.

Adam Smith could probably answer these questions to be fair. Although with the amount of stick I've given him over the years I doubt he would give me a dig out.
