Yeah, that's what I'd heard and was referring to as "wacky," especially in light of the fact that so much of the U.S. legal code (including the basic precept of "innocent until proven guilty") derives from English common law.
The funny thing is, despite the UK libel laws you all have some of the worst tabloids in the world - they just do it with rumor, like the recent sex-scandal-by-way-of-innuendo about the prince of Wales. "While this newspaper can't say who allegedly did what or supposedly to whom, we can assure our readers of the appalling nature of the supposed crimes this alleged
twisted sex perpetrator inflicted their sicko kinky vile disgusting habits (
