Bunce is too aloof to take part in the banter on this forum. But he does hold his nose occasionally and pop in to issue a brief press release for his show. Compare Bunce's contributions to Glyn Leach's. He gets properly involved in the debates on here and seems to treat us as equals.

If Glyn called me an education-deficent, fornicating dimwit then I'd take that as a compliment. Totally top man.

Buncey wrote:OK...history lesson ladies:
Foreman got it wrong in Zaire. In the years that followed he chased Ali and took out full page adverts in New York Times and other papers and was the subject of a front page at Boxing News begging Ali for a rematch. Ali was busy with Dunne, Spaniards and stuff like!
Lewis and Tyson was late by five or six or seven years. Lewis and Holyfield was late. And, Bowe not fighting Lewis or Lewis not fighting Bowe was bigger at the time than Haye and Klitschkos making excuses, trust me.
You need to read contemporary newspaper reports - try my stuff in the Daily Telegraph for Lewis.
Stander...you serious?
It's been a long time on here since I had to talk to such a effing dimwit.
Now eff off and look up some papers and get an education you tosser.
Adios.
Steve
What gives you the right to come on here and slag off people's opinions? The thing with you Steve is you never listen do you? You constantly talk over people when they are trying to put there point across, and yeah you may know a bit about boxing, however what you need to realise is, so do a lot of other people. You continue to demean and talk down to everyone you interview, (you come across as a bit of a bully really unless it's Khan or Froch.) It seems to me, that you love to put fighters down ! (WHY?) Also what makes you such an expert on boxing? what did you do as a professional ??? Oh sorry you were never a professional boxer were you? Also why do you keep calling people "KID"? Don't you know it's rude? You acknowledge boxers as bum's and these boxers put there lives on the line for next to no money, and your calling them bum's!? Well mate that just goes to show how much you know/care for the sport we all love, to be honest I think your out of order saying what you do to people. One day you might feel what it's like to be hit by a so called bum !!!

Eh? I thought Sam Peter was absolute garbage and did quit after he heard the score cards mid-fight...but my memory must be fading if that clip is being used as a stick to hit Steve Bunce with.

It's in reference to the pie jibe not the actual Peter fight, I guess the clue to that was in the "Stick two pies in it this time"

x2
Glyn engages in conversation with the posters, sheds light on the sport from a respected platform and is also a top bloke.
Bunce comes on here and puts up links to anything he is appearing on then disappears, unless he gets mentioned, in which case he logs on, dismisses alternative arguments and urges us to "believe" him.
How much boxing is in the daily newspapers? Not a lot tbh, and it's a shame. Buncey is in a fortunate position and could be directing people towards some of the great websites and the well-written, informed articles of people like Eric Armit and Terry Dooley, rather than Hart's lukewarm ramblings in print. I know he has mentioned some of them on TV, so props to him for that.
I don't care about being called names by Steve Bunce btw, I must admit I found it quite amusing. It's only a boxing forum after all, and if he thinks I'm a tosser then that's fine. I've been called far worse!
As if Ron Stander would seriously be a champion today. I put this (

) next to it for good ness sake! He had a good-looking record, it was tongue in cheek.
And I'm glad most people have covered the Ali issue already.
The equivalent now, which is what the thread was initially about, would be Haye hammering everyone at heavyweight, being viewed as a legend and knocking out the teak-tough Vitali Klitschko...
....before Klit disappears for a couple of years in a depressed haze and later returns, calling him out, taking out adverts etc.
The well has run a little dry, that's all I was saying.
PS Ta for the compliment King G, I'll vote now mate... :)
Au Revoir :)

Regarding Ali ducking Foreman - I have never read that or heard that anywhere ever, in something like 28 years following this sport.
Bunce was having us on, like that daft twat who made all those people drink the kool aid in Jonestown through sheer power of perosnality, doesn't work here Buncey because we know our stuff - I know you don't think so but that is why you are all here. As Clint Eastwood would say 'Don't piss on my back and tell me it's raining'

The present mob will have light legacies but please don't try and re-write history to prove a point.
Adios.
Ali ducked Foreman when? After the Rumble in the Jungle I presume?
Aaah yes, Muhammad Ali, who forever will be known as a man who ducked a challenge!
And name a fighter from the 19990s/2000s in the heavyweight division that Lennox Lewis should have fought and didn't? Bowe is the only one I can think of, and that was Bowe's doing. Ike? Well, he went to prison before we got to see how far he could go.
We know it's a time honoured tradition, the argument is that it happens a lot more now and there are fewer decent heavyweights about.
Chris Byrd, Riddick Bowe and George Foreman. And he left David Tua hanging as long as could. Lewis' should alsohave fought Ruiz not Grant. I'm feeling contrary today.

PS Riddick Bowe ducked Lewis, not the other way around. He'd have torn Ruiz a new one and outpointed Byrd easily. Tyson wanted no part of Lewis years earlier.
Instead he was fighting Klitschko, Golota, Holyfield (x2), Rahman, Tua, Grant, Ruddock, Morrison, Mercer, McCall (x2), Tyson (albeit faded), Briggs, Bruno, Grant (seen as a big threat at the time), etc etc....not many bums on his resume are there? Let's be fair...

A lot of timing issues on it though.....and I was being deliberately awkward.
We all know why he fought McCall, Rahman and Holyfield twice of course. And to describe Tyson as "faded" is a bit like saying Buncey's chances of being the new Spiderman were "slim".

Very true, can't argue with that.....perhaps "shot to bits" is more appropriate.
Didn't stop him fighting on though, and taking more beatings along the way.

Yep....the value of the Holy and Tyson wins can be more meaningfully assessed by the form of the two prior and post Lewis fights.

Bubba number 3, work and the realisation that my own blog, while beautiful and fun was never going to amount to anything.....I need to focus on writing for paid gigs instead of casual, indulgent blogging......but I cannot seem to find the time and rythmn to get going with it.

I've arrived at this thread late.
I suspect Bunce attacked Captain Hook assuming he was a random 'sometime' poster rather than a very knowledgable fan, well liked and a 'proper' writer. Not that it would have been an excuse if he were not. Bunce that was classless. You've embarassed yourself and gone down in my estimation big time in the absence of an apology.
Just so you know I like a lot of others on here listen to your radio slots, read your BM column, buy your books (Watson and the Fixer anyhow) and attended one of those stand up shows. I also put a fair bit of time and effort into writing to ESPN to campaign for them to pick up Andy, yourself and the ex Setanta boxing team. Nice for Captain Hook (and by extension all of us) to be abused in return.

No. But I'd be upset if Father Christmas started callling people tossers and telling them to eff off just because they disagreed with him.
