Not sticking up for the bloke, but 11yrs seems excessive....
Really? He gouged a man's eye out for no reason whatsoever. I'd say - given that if he does anything like behave himself, he'll be out in six, he's got off lightly.

He wont be out in 6 if he was sentenced to an IPP

Nobody mentioned an IPP did they?He got 11 years which he should do half, two thirds if he's a naughty boy.My mate got an IPP with a reccomendation he serves 2 and a half years and he has already done six years despite been a model prisoner! The system cant cope with IPP's and thats why they are being stopped. He is better off with 11 years than an IPP with a 3 year rec!

Yeah, IPPs are a prisoner's worst nightmare! No guarantee of release and only one chance for release each year after youve served your tariff.

For the record, im not suggesting he did get an IPP. Just illustrating that prison sentences arent always what they seem. My previous post should have had the word 'wouldnt' rather than 'wont'

All sentences over ten years now and it can be recommended that the prisoner serves two thirds. Each case on it's merits like. Feel gutted for the bloke who has lost his eye and for Tyson who must be devastated. But it begs the question... Where is Joe boy gaskin with my £250?

Would have been interesting if the judge could have given him the option 'go on them an eye for and eye, let us take 1 of your eyes out or take 11years inside'

Unless you and him are big pals you'd best best writing it off :x like you said earlier he's not a man to mess about with though he's not everyones cup of tea; some of those hardcases are prickly characters.

I dont mean to be an idiot, but i dont think thats quite correct. I think what you referring to applies to sentences of 4 or more years prior to 4 April 2005, but still allows for prisoners to apply for parole at the half-way stage.

I think he means all sentences below 10 years nowadays are eligible for release after half.Previously it was all below four years.

Fcuk me there some stereotypical prejudicial bull shit going on in this thread ...where all you lot been living underneath cabbage leaf ?
How the fcuk do you think a gypsy man like John Fury would live in a property like he does and down the line not pay some sort of income tax ??
Ya cant buy 300k -400k property's and not pay tax ,if any of you lot lived in anything other than a council house you would know something about this
I dare say hes dodged a bit of tax but most people that work for their self's have done...its not just gypsy's that pay as little as possible and avoid the dreaded taxman ya know!
Lets get back on to what he did ....i think its terrible not only did he take another mans eye but he did it in front of the mans two young sons, that cant be good can it :(
I dont know the Furys personally ,but i would think John is sitting in that cell reflecting on his actions and how its affected his family that you can see are very close and the son that might just need him over the next few years,I am sure hes regretting it !
11 yrs seems excessive when you consider people take other peoples lives and get like a couple of three years ..but then it was in front of the mans sons, one was just 13 who surely would of been traumatized by watching his dad have his eye ripped out ...6-8 yrs seems right to me but i ent no judge !
I dont know what planet the poster was on that said Fury was gonna get a kicking in jail...if youve ever been in jail you would know men like Fury dont picked on lol...he will be out in 6-7 yrs !
Anyhow thats my 2 peniths
...and before you ask yes i am

Genuine question fella and I'm really not being sarcastic here - Will he have a mortgage? He lives in Wilmslow, right? My gran lived near there and my brother worked there for a while so I know it reasonably well.

nah mate Gypsys don't have mortgages, most buy things out right ...thats why i said buying/owning a 300k-400k property without paying some sort of tax is tad difficult ,Trust me you cant even walk in a garage now days with 20k in your hands without them turning you away because of money laundering etc

Most of the Gypsy guys i know are mortgage free. They usually buy the land and then get planning permission for chalets, stables, etc. Some have done very well indeed out of it.

I just wondered how you'd go about accruing 300-400k in cash? I mean, he's 50 ish..so obviously he's lived elsewhere prior to the property he lives in now but the normal person would have to work for a long time and squirrel away cash in the bank to rack up 400k. Even well paid people, once you've been bent over by the tax office you lose roughly half in taxes.

I know that the lifestyle is one where exterior/viewable material wealth is the main focus - Cars, jewellery, houses etc so they're far less interested in stuff that other people might waste their money on but the ones I see still eat in nice restaurants and drink 'nuff booze.

I am a gypsy and I live in house cause in the late 1980s my parents got in to running/owning a small car pitch in a village so they settled down and bought sold property in and around the same village ever since,we are well thought after in the community ...i suppose since my early 20s i have done the same ...bought a house did it up and so on and so forth, thats how i have earned what i have earned and not from hitting old women over the head which most would have you believe about us
There are different classes of gypsy the same as there are different classes of normal house dwelling folk...which is sort of the point i am trying to make and what seems to be missing on this thread !
Like I said i dont know the furys personally But I would suspect the Furys have earned a fair chunk of dough from doing the same as most better off gypsy's have..buys and selling...be it land or anything else to get a pound...it all counts lads :)

That's pretty much the same situation as my mate, he's done everything they've asked of him and he's completely turned his life round. he's tearing his hair out waiting to get out. Any idea if there definitely being stopped?

it is easy to pop somebodys eye out by simply making an incision into the inside which makes the muscle pop out, but to detach it is sickening :!: .
hospitals pop out eyes on too trays when doing surgerys etc, its quite an easy practice.fury is a animal & a bully who deserves to be behind bars.

I posted a comment earlier on in the thread which was a bit rude and unfair.

I know there are a great many honest, hardworking travellers in the UK and it was wrong of me to make the comment I did. I was just a bit sickened by Gypsy Weddings and the John Fury assault.

Apologies if I have offended anyone.

ha ha yes it does seem like that but nothing that exciting. Simply that I do know decent, honest travellers and when I re read my comment it was a pretty harsh generalisation.
