Cleverly vs Bellew....CONFIRMED!!!!
Re: Cleverly vs Bellew....CONFIRMED!!!!
JC had to fight Eubank for the title, Macca and Clev were both awarded the belt without having to fight for it
Re: Cleverly vs Bellew....CONFIRMED!!!!
ok, but there isn't that much of a difference. vacant title, or being given title before you take on convenient (for promoters, fighters, fans) british opponent for WBO...Coco wrote:JC had to fight Eubank for the title, Macca and Clev were both awarded the belt without having to fight for it
Re: Cleverly vs Bellew....CONFIRMED!!!!
I was being a bit pedantic! Prob more of a sign of the times that you are awarded belts rather than having to fight for a vacant titleAutobarn wrote:ok, but there isn't that much of a difference. vacant title, or being given title before you take on convenient (for promoters, fighters, fans) british opponent for WBO...Coco wrote:JC had to fight Eubank for the title, Macca and Clev were both awarded the belt without having to fight for it
Re: Cleverly vs Bellew....CONFIRMED!!!!
good point. maybe joe would have been given the title if it happened today.
i just thought it was funny that with each of the welsh talents, the champ could not fight.
leaving it too late?
conspiracy against the human race?

Was that not Farnell who tried to calm Bellew down at the press conference? Sure it was.

Re: Cleverly vs Bellew....CONFIRMED!!!!
Good luck to both men! Although there are questions about the wisdom on Tony's part coming in at extremely short notice - and the possible deleterious effects that may have - I think it's good for british boxing that we have two stablemates (in terms of promoter) facing one another, and making sure the public don't get duped.
I wish Tony well - and hope he's fit and strong enough on the night to be competitive - Cleverly will have had the training camp of his life, and would have been favourite anyway, so you've got to think the odds are stacked against Bellew - but then, this is a world title fight, and there have been far bigger mistmatches in the history of boxing - and ones where the underdog prevailed!
Will be out whilst this is on, but will record it on my Virgin media box.

It prob has much more to do with how FW works, he is the common factor here, esp as it is with the WBO.Autobarn wrote:good point. maybe joe would have been given the title if it happened today.

The Welsh thing is more of a co incidence.
Same thing happened to Alex Arthur, again FW and the WBO

I think Ian is referring to his skills rather than actual opposition - sorry to speak for you Ian, but I'm guessing that is what you mean?orbtastic wrote:Who has he beaten that's world class?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:When Tony was asking if he should fight Cleverly on here, I think I was the only one who said he shouldn't.Cardiff-Lad1 wrote: Ian, which way do you see this going? you may already have stated but today has been a long day and its all blurred into one, ever since it was announced the German had pulled out!
Tony's a nice lad but I'd be very surprised if he's only a few pounds off the weight. Even if he'd had three months to be on it, I'd take Cleverly to beat him clearly.
The prospect of a potentially weight-drained, fragile novice (champion or not) going in against a genuine world class fighter whose had months to prepare doesn't enthuse me one bit.

Wow - only just found out about this and am shocked! Good on Bomber though, think his '0' is gonna go but if he puts in a good display it pushes him into the world arena. Big balls, and hopefully well paid. He's training for a fight anyway and probably couldn't of come at a better time.

You have been given an amazing chance of fighting for a world title fight yet you say "Who else would have taken the fight" and telling Nathan "You would not have taken this fight"? Come on fella opportunities like this only come in peoples dreams and you know good and well if the tables were turned and it was your title fight and Nathan was at your level he would have JUMPED at the chance the same as you have. I respect you wanting the fight but claiming nobody else would have done is nonsense.
