This thread started off about Tyson Fury, and then drifts off to white asses, whats this all about?.
There are a lot of travellers in Boxing, and without them, there would be less Boxing matches,
Billly Smith was on ringside last night, did you think of him as Gypsy Ernie Smith, or Ernie Smith, the decent boxing journeyman!! when you watch him box, you dont think of caravans, thieving, etc, you think of him boxing the local prospect....
If you go to Amateur championship shows. you will see a lot of travellers on the shows up and down the country,
There are a few travellers on the highest ratings in amateur boxing,
I dont understand why people are against travellers..
I am Jewish, so I so understand about persecution.......
Tho not many Jewish boxers at the moment....
just my little views

In my experience, he's quite right.
So you agree with what he was saying then ? , that travelers ent hated because their travelers but because a small minority behaves in a certain way...so its fine to treat them all the same and should hate the lot ??
I am done with this thread...i can see i am beatin a dead horse .
i'm on your side mate....but think about how english football fans are viewed. they're seens as thugs and hooligans simply because of a minority...unfortunately 'good' news isn't as newsworthy as bad and so people on the outside tend to only see the bad things about certain groups...

i remember a load of travellers moving into the field next door to my mum and dads house when i was a kid...i thought it was great but my old fella went ballistic...bought new locks for the doors, the garage etc etc....i accused him of being a bigot and all sorts...we had a right barney about it...

then next door got burgled....then a fella done the road had his shed emptied in the dead of night...

so was my old fella right?? or was i?

Depends if their caravans got done as well :o Your assuming it was them, i was read a story once that certain criminals actually target areas where travellers move in and go on the rob. That way everyone assumes its the travellers that did it and they get away scot free.......

Just a little twist for ya :TU:

Why include Irish along with the words thieving, c*nt or pikey? That's offensive to Irish people as you're using "Irish" in a derogatory sense. Like somebody saying "You English c*nt", as though being English is part of the issue.

P.S. In Ireland, nobody uses the term "pikeys". They use the generic term "knackers" and do not discriminate further depending on whether they are Romany or not.

Most peoples experience of travellers in Ireland are negative, because they are generally not integrated into society. In my experience they are known best for:

1. Arriving in caravans and setting up camp on private property
2. Being difficult to evict from private property
3. Leaving a mess behind them when they eventually move on from private property
4. Knocking around houses looking for junk
5. Not paying taxes
6. Robbing houses, particularly on final nights before moving elsewhere, and leaving a trademark signature steamy turd in the centre of the floor (happened in my friends grandmothers house and I've also heard of other cases)

It is for these reasons that the average person in Ireland is not tolerant, and even afraid, of travelling folk. It's a shame because there are good and bad people in every group in society, but I can't see what travelling people can do to change these views. I actually think the Gypsy wedding show went some way towards giving an insight into these people.

It should also be noted that Irish people, in my opinion, are more racist than many other first world countries. The main reason for this is that up until recently there was never any mass inflows of foreigners, so they are not used to it, but in the past couple of decades there has been a huge increase in the numbers of Africans and Eastern Europeans coming into Ireland.

Well said. It's the worst thing you can call a Traveller especuially if they are a genuine traveller. Travellers hate Pikey's more than normal people do.

Gorger - It means you aren't a Traveller basically. It's not an insult at all. The term Pikey is derived from the Irish travellers, not proper Gypsies as such, who decended on city using the Canal towpaths as the route. They couldn't get past the Turnpikes so settled in those Areas, hence the word Pikey being born. Travellers don't use the word at all as it's a London terminolgy. Pikeys are usually called Scamps in the travelling world.

I did not know that but it is probably true. In the North it is rare to hear the word Pikey. As for Gorger, it is not derogatory normally but can be used as an insult in a row between two travellers! One will call the other a "Gorger ****"! The Travellers are more than capable of being descriminatory against us Gorger's (Colliers, etc). And i have plenty of experience with them. Macho is right though, although there is indeed good and bad in everyone the offending rate amongst travellers will be far higher. I know literally hundreds personally and would say less than 10% actually have proper tax paying jobs. Maybe its the company i keep....
