i'm not keen on hayes stupid schoolboy antics he just sounds like a 12 year old to me and it has put me off him a lot, but on the whole if they are a good fighter then im a fan.
Haye just needs to shut the eff up.
If you support boxing you support haye !! simple as, what does the sport gain from wlad winning?
what does boxing really win from haye winning? haye wins fights vitali and wins then retires. WOOO boxing got a big leg up there

i'll be supporting haye though saying that as i like haye but i've always enjoyed watching the klitschkos
1. All the major titles will become free if haye wins them and then retires (since if wlad wins he'll stick around for years holding onto them)
2. We get Haye v Vitali if haye wins which will be huge worldwide.

Look we're saying the HW division is boring but in reality if you take away k2 the rest of the division would be competative, it may not be of the same standard as yester year but never the lest its competative.

I can guarantee if Haye wins this fight in style, outside of hardcore boxing circles, all of the criticism he has faced in this country will vanish overnight.

is that a good thing though to have 4 boxers claiming to be champion, no it is not. i'd rather have a klitschko holding all the belts than 4 david haye's all refusing to fight each other

Well theres not alot i can say to that - if you would prefer wlad to lock down the division and bore us to tears rather than have 4 david hayes in the division. Then i pitty you.

Were lucky enough to have 1 david haye otherwise we wouldnt be getting this mega fight. You'd be watching wlad v chisora instead.

It would be more interesting if Haye was champ because his style makes him 'easier to beat', but only by the same dreadful bunch the Ks have been beating because there's nothing else out there. Would a champ who stands more chance of losing vs these same challengers make the division better? In entertainment value yes, not in quality though. It's a bit ironic to say the division would improve for having a more beatable champ than Wlad. Jameel
McCline and Tony Thompson wouldn't suddenly become quality contenders if Haye wins.
i have to disagree with that bit Glyn thompson is a quality operator, hes probably the best of the rest after haye and the klitschkos just age is a factor and he wont be around much longer, if he was 10 years younger people would be loving this guy but his loss to klitschko wasn't as bad as some and he's been sparring klitschko hopefully that will give him confidence if they fight again, then again he may keep the sparring partner mentality and lose badly :(
Adam, the point I'm trying to make is that a change of champion this weekend cannot turn Thompson or any other beaten challenger, or contender, into a better fighter or improve the division's quality. And it can't mate, can it?

No one is saying Tony Thompson and Jameel McCline would suddenly become contenders as there are far better Heavyweights out there. If Haye fights Vitali in october it will be great for the sport and crown a undisputed Heavyweight champion for the first time since 2003 even if the winner retires after it which will leave all the belts vacant and some young hungry fighters like Robert Helenius, Tomasz Adamek, Eddie Chambers, Chris Arreola, Alexander Povetkin, Denis Boytsov, Mike Perez, Tyson Fury/Derek Chisora/David Price and Kubrat Pulev all fighting for supremecy and i for one will find that far more entertaining and interesting then the last 6 years of the Heavyweight Division.

You're not getting me, I'm not talking 'ifs'. Yes, there is a bunch of decent prospects coming through, but a change of champion will not revitalise the division overnight. That's my point, in response to earlier posts that suggested otherwise.

It's a sign of how much Britain has fallen in last 17-18 years that Haye's attitude is not considered vulgar and brash in the UK anyway

I'm not sure why you are talking about sky tv here when I was making a point about the interest in the states, but I'm sure you know that any really big boxing match over there is on ppv these days. The fact that this fight is being shown for free in non-primetime there says a lot about how big it is on the world scale, whether you like it or not. The biggest fights in world boxing don't take place in Hamburg.

In fact on Pardon The Interruption (one of the most watched sports shows in the USA - which you can see on ESPN here) yesterday, one of the presenters said "who is David Haye anyway?" and then went on to explain that the fight is being shown as part of the buildup to the main sports event on tv that day - a womens world cup football game!

And I don't believe the stuff about the Americans not watching it because an american isn't involved - they are getting excited about Pacquiao vs Marquez already and neither of them are from the USA.

I'm not saying we shouldn't get excited about it or have massive interest in it, I'm just fed up hearing that its the "biggest fight in 10 years" or "the best thing to happen to boxing in a long long time" when its clearly not, and in reality is not getting much hype in the main boxing markets. It seems like its only here in the UK that we seem to think Haye is bringing "amazing excitement" to the HW division - presumably by knocking out a scared and limited Fraudley and playing hide and seek with Valuev for 12 rounds.

No doubt I'll get knocked for this and called unpatriotic etc. I'm pleased a British sportsman has this chance (although I'm not Haye's no.1 fan) and appreciate its a big sporting occasion for the country. However, I'm over all this nonsense about Haye being the saviour of boxing.

As for Saint Wlad, we’ve never had blanket exposure to him so now we’re seeing him more often we like him and there is the temptation to say we prefer him. His offer to translate for Haye was a way of humiliating Haye due to a perceived ignorance on David’s part. Wlad is acting like a lower-middle class yobbo chiding a chav from the comfort of the Daily Mail letters page, fair enough, but he’s got to go out into tha’ street and confront the brash upstart and his gang of silver back gorillas.

A lot of people give Haye stick for disrespecting his opponent etc. but I imagine that Chisora is feeling sore towards Wlad. Two training camps jacked in and a fight disappearing over the horizon due to an injury that is bad enough to jack the fight but which didn’t prevent Wlad from signing for another immediately afterwards. Ditto for Adamek, should Haye win VK will find a way to ditch his next fight and take on Haye. Good for us, hard for Adamek and suggests that maybe they lack respect for us and the sport if you see things from this perspective.

Boxing is a sport that requires a certain amount of thought. This leads me to wonder why certain fans, not you lot, need to cast one guy as villain and one as hero in almost every single fight. Perhaps we have two bad guys in this one? Or even two good guys. I dunno.

Attitude? its all pre fight bollox, forgotton straight after the fight as always, lets not get carried away by it all guys......usual prefight trash talk nothing more than that, he's not a bad bloke, he was just doing all he could to get interest in the fight, which he did.

At the end of the day I'm going out there to watch a decent Heavyweight take on another decent Heavyweight as i love boxing. Simple as that, and i definately WANT Haye to win, and i'll be shouting me bollocks off on the night in support. (whether he will win or not i'm still torn)

If some people want Haye to get knocked out because of what he said and are tuning in to watch it, then I have news for you. That's what Haye wants. It's all about selling tickets. I think David has done a hell of a job.

You're making the assumption that people don't like Haye because of things he has said in the last few days. I haven't been overly offended by his behaviour in the buildup to his fight and don't care if he swears, but have found some things he's said in the past to be very distasteful (particularly the gang rape stuff - which i seem to remember he still stood by even after the fight).

I haven't made a conscious decision to not like Haye i.e. 'Haye said this so I won't like him'. It's just that i've found his behaviour over time to be a bit tiresome and therefore I just don't feel as excited about his fights as other british boxers (that I've gone to watch abroad in the past). I find his 'banter' a bit cringeworthy (much like DeGale) and those comparing his pre-fight hype jobs to Ali are well off the mark. Ali was clever, quick-witted and genuinely funny. Haye shouting "listen to his borat voice!, listen to his borat voice!" like a 15 year old chav, or saying "i just want a ref that can count to ten" for the 200th time doesn't come close. In a way I would enjoy a Haye win just to cap off a great sporting time for the country after McIlroy and potentially Murray etc but I'm just not that interested in the fight and probably prefer Wlad.

I was also in NY last week (and in the company of boxing fans) and no-one seemed that bothered about it. I fully accept that is anecdotal evidence though.

I just didn't really hear anything about it over there and didn't see much interest in it. It reminds me a bit of some other fights involving British fighters where our media tells us its the biggest event ever but in other countries they dont seem too interested.
All of pac and floyds latest fights have been on sky for free as well! so whats your point?

I'm not sure why you are talking about sky tv here when I was making a point about the interest in the states,
but I'm sure you know that any really big boxing match over there is on ppv these days. The fact that this fight is being shown for free in non-primetime there says a lot about how big it is on the world scale, whether you like it or not. The biggest fights in world boxing don't take place in Hamburg.

In fact on Pardon The Interruption (one of the most watched sports shows in the USA - which you can see on ESPN here) yesterday, one of the presenters said "who is David Haye anyway?"
and then went on to explain that the fight is being shown as part of the buildup to the main sports event on tv that day - a womens world cup football game!

In response to your comments which i have highlighted:

Because floyd is an american who isnt ppv in britain. And you were making the comment that Haye (a british fighter) isnt ppv in the US.

Wow who knew americans can be ignorant of things that go on outside their own country, you should know that since im assuming you're a brit.

JMM is a mexican who lives california - i belive they have a few mexicans in the US.
Pac fights mostly in the US and the actual fight is going to be in the US. So that would explain that wouldnt it.

Also just because a fight isnt big in the US doesnt mean its not big - this may be a confusing concept for you but 832 million people live in europe and plenty of them are boxing fans, especially the germans, ex soviets and the British. Again i expect you know this. So why you've written this nonesense is beyond me!

Next you'll be telling me the world cup isnt the biggest sporting event in the world because the americans dont watch football/soccer and a US presenter doesnt know who messi is.

Without a doubt the US market is massive but its not the end all and be all of everything, if it was they would have a decent HW contender.

And most intellegent americans would probably agree with my comments.

I see you've resorted to the tired old national stereotypes to make your argument: No americans like football and they are all ignorant about things outside their own country.

At the end of the day I stand by my comments that this isn't a massive fight, and that if it was a huge event for boxing it would be on ppv in the states and getting more coverage in key markets such as Mexico. It would also not be in Hamburg. I accept that exposure in the USA is not the be-all and end-all of boxing. I've never said it is. But it remains a barometer of how big the event is in this sport - particularly in a division they have always been obsessed with.

As I stated above, I was in NY last week with the 'intelligent americans' you speak of (who are also boxing fans). And no, none of them are particularly interested in this fight.

But my argument was never intended to be about Americans or America - it was just one of the examples I raised to highlight that this fight isn't as huge as people are saying it is. Looks like from the posts above a few people agree with me, but I respect your opinion that this is not the case. We'll agree to disagree.

Put it this way: If Haye didn't exist but there was a Spanish boxer (for example) that had beaten Audley and then run around the ring against Valuev for 12 rounds, would you describe a fight between him and Wlad as a 'huge' fight or 'the biggest boxing match for 10 years'? Of course you wouldn't. Would you even watch it? Would you pay to watch it?

And that's exactly the point I'm making: It may be an interesting/exciting/big night for us british sports fans who want to cheer on one of our own and perhaps see some rare success, but in no way is it a 'massive' fight for most boxing fans around the world or one that is lighting up the boxing world. And no amount of cheerleading and bandwagoning by our 'us against the germans' press can change that.
