And how many truly great wins does Froch have? Taylor? a truly great win? Not a chance. Dirrel? No, and as Froch said about Kessler, if that fight was anywhere but Nottingham or England Froch wouldn't have gotten that decision by a long way. Abraham? Truly great? No chance. Its more the manner of Calzaghes wins. Would he beat froch - Yes, would he have won the super six - yes, would he have beaten bute - yes. Did he beat kessler and Hopkins - yes.

Even guys like eubank, benn and colins say that if calzaghe was about in their era he would have been in the mix and even at the top of the tree.

We have to be fair the SMW division wasnt packed with names when calzaghe was in his prime but he beat anyone who would fight him. Could calzaghe have done more to really build a legacy and silence the doubters - of course. But short of fighting a prime RJJ nothing would have made a blind bit of difference to peoples opinions.

Spot on and lets not forget that Taylor outsped him as well.

Froch has had a lot of entertaining fights and takes a lot of credit for the supersix. His sportsmanship is also making Amir Khan look silly now.

The only fighter that he beat emphatically in the supersix was Abraham, who along with Alan Green was exposed in the tournament

He holds a good win over Johnson who was Clinton Woods nemisis for several years, he has a win over Pascal and has shown that he can compete at 168 with the best but he cannot claim to be the best at 168 and that was something that Calzaghe laid claims to for several years

Is there any other fighter in the world who polarizes opinion like Calzaghe? People either love him or hate him.

In between those 2 views, the logical outlook on him is, he was a great great fighter who really should have tested himself a lot more than he did.

Froch fans are always going to have a dislike for Calzaghe as Carl chased him for a long time, likewise Calzaghe fans looked at Froch as the pain in the ass who didn't deserve the shot he was chasing. Only difference is 3 years on, Calzaghe fans now have some respect for Froch, the same can't be said for Froch fans towards Calzaghe.

Carl has had a crazy run of top level fights, but the 'going away from home to fight everyone' attitude isn't entirely down to his warrior spirit, it's the contract he signed with a US TV company running a tournament, and the poor negotiating power he had while with Henessey. After every single fight Froch has moaned about not fighting in Nottingham, so if he had the choice to go the Calzaghe route and fight at home, he would have done. He's been forced to travel as he doesn't have the following or backing to bring people to his town.

Froch's CV is infinitely tougher than Calzaghe's since become a world champ, but the fact still remains Calzaghe was by far the superior fighter.
