We'll see how Price's chin holds up at world level though.
I remember reading Bert Sugar in the offical program of the cancelled 1991 fight between tyson and holyfield , he bascially said that "in a fight between a disciplined fighter and an un-disciplined fighter" "i chose the diciplined fighter"

Okay, how about Price v Firtha for March?

Im sold on Prices power but im not completely sold on him yet-

1. Can he fight someone his own size? a question we would have hardly ever asked before but now we have numerous fighters in the mix all knocking around 6'6" - 6'9".

2 Can he fight people who can punch, box and move?

3. Can he take a punch?

Indications are yes, he looks like he can fight on the inside too but lets face it most people thought helenius was the next big thing and it turned out he isnt that good.

Is it really the case that Price has a suspect chin? Shouldnt people be factoring in that if a 16/17/18st man hits you on the chin, youd be doing exceptionally well to remain standing upright?

There's no shame in getting dropped or stopped at some stage of a heavyweight's entire fighting career (amateur or pro). This is heavyweight boxing after all.

Either this or Price vs Pajkic would be a fairer comparison of where Fury and Price are respectively at.

Fury fought a game McDermott with an excellent record when he was just 20 & had fought 3 times.

Price fought McDermott on the weekend in his 29th year and McD in his 30s weighing a career heaviest having lost 4 of his last 5 fights :TU:

If Price took on either Pajkic of Firtha in March it would only be 6 months after Fury KO'd them both in 5 & 3 rounds resepctively.

Firtha having gone the distance with Povetkin and Pajkic unbeaten.

A fight with either of these would GENUINELY tell us where Price is at level wise vs Fury.

Price will knock out both Firtha and Pajkic, probably in the first round. Don't see how that has any bearing on the British or even World scene. They were put in front of Fury to make him look good. Taking that in mind, they will make Price look like a beast.

Raphael Butler went 10 rounds with Pajkic within a few months of Price knocking him out in one.

Firtha has lost to both Pajkic and Tye Fields, 8 rounds with Pajkic and being KO'd by Fields in 6.

Unfortunate but not entirely unexpected news. On the basis that the Fury fight does not get made this year I wonder who would be a good next fight? Will probably be Sexton although he wouldn't last more than 3 rounds. Monte Barrett could be a decent fight if he is going over to America given the fact that he can punch and has been in with some decent guys so would raise Price's profile a bit. Others could be Rahman or Sam Peter.

Ridiculous typo in the headline of that one...

Anyway I like Price and it's good to have a big, exciting heavyweight to follow from the UK who can knock people out.

In terms of the matchup proposed it seems like one that will naturally just not happen.

Price needs to get moving, he's 28 if I'm not mistaken and he needs to fight some decent operator like Sosnowski then look to get a Euro title fight, after which if Wlad is still around he should target him.

Is it me though or are there a distinct lack of options for fighters coming up in heavyweight? Everyone who Price should be looking to fight is probably just treading water waiting for some big payday and just wouldn't want to risk it against a guy like him. Which means the road ahead could be difficult unless he forces himself into mandatory spots.

How should he be matched?

Price within 5 rounds

Fury then Harrison to raise his profile, then I'd say ko helenius to send a message out there. Then povetkin, chisora and the klitscho's !

Pricey mentioned Sosnowski in an interview. That'd be a good test.

It would...but with regards Fury, the second Price connects Fury will wobble. Then we'll see how good his killer instinct is.

My head and heart say Price wins this within three rounds.

He is only young for a heavyweight - there is still a way to go, with development fights and titles along the way (and by then FM hopes that both the Klitchcos will have retired).

It's crazy how you're all getting excited over his power and the names he could face. He just whacked a fattest ever John McDonut FFS!

Let's see if he can take out a dead body like Hasbeen Rahman or Monte Barrett in similar fashion, that'd confirm he's above the current hideous crop of quote unquote 'prospects'. Until then for me he's just another lumbering goon with a bit of ability. Bitter experience talking here.

Barrett is a never been and Rahman must be 50, big John is fitter then he looks, it was prices 12th fight and no ones gona give him rounds outside the world top 10.

Barrett is a 'never been' but he's achieved a hell of a lot more than Pricey to date. You undermine yourself and whatever point you are making by trying to sell John Mc20stoneDermott's 'fitness'. That is a completely untenable position to put yourself in.

Can we all just settle down please! Christ I know we're starved of credible fighters but this guy just beat up an aged whale!

Has any other British fighter received such hype for beating an English title level fighter?

No. It's like the board has gone mad. I can't believe even the more intelligent, articulate posters here have the temerity to already discuss world titles and fights with Helenius and the brothers Klitschko.

Possibly fighting Helenius is totally different to possibly fighting a klit!

Helenius lost to Chisora who had beat nobody of real note prior to their fight. You could argue big John is a similar level to Sexton.

whoah there overhand! I just said I liked him and it's good to see a heavy with some power and a bit of potential, that's all! never praised him as the second coming. I think it's reasonable to say he could beat a couple of the bog standard Euro crop out there then 'target' a Klit, which is what any heavyweight coming up is planning for anyway. christ, derek chisora is getting his shot after all! and a certain someone is picking him to win!!

I don't think anybody is saying he is the next Lennox Lewis bit what he does have in abundance is power, a great jab and reasonable speed for a big man along with a good amateur pedigree. Granted we have not yet seen his chin properly tested as a pro or seen him drawn into am attritional fight but I do think he has a lot more potential than any other British heavyweight at the moment. I'd fancy him to take Fury (who I also rate) out in quite quick fashion.

I fancy Chisora because he can fight at a pace, is fearless and has proven against Helenius that he can take a massive whack on the jaw with no ill effects whatsoever. He's a live body against any 40 year old man.

Pointless comparing Price to him, who hasn't been made to fight yet and hasn't been clobbered on the chin. Most of these big giant types have proven to be pretty chinny, Wladimir included.

Why is Fury questioned here instead of Price?

Let's compare the fighters. They both turned pro within a few months of each other. Fury is five years younger than Price and has had 6 more fights. Fury fought John McDermott in his eight fight at the age of 21 years of age. He has taken four boxer's undefeated records, one of whom just convincingly beat the European champion.

David price beat tom dallas who lost big time to zack page.
you need to remember fury is young and developing and he`s already leagues above price.price fights 2 times every 18 months....

get real guys its bellshaw vs fury all over again.
