As I said earlier lets all just wait and see Does anybody have any details of the undercard at all ?

It's been voted on and they've already been told, AFAIK. They were left with a get out clause - don't be involved and stay within the EBU; go ahead and be expelled.

I can imagine though it just states if the show goes ahead then there will be sanctions , so as someone mentioned earlier , at what point do they no longer become part of the EBU , im no lawyer but i think if its from first bell they would have to have been told that prior , in writing , otherwise its a case of they do the show knowing they would be expelled for it after .

Theres more twists to this story than Eastenders

I think its a fascinating topic. This is a historic event and after the weekend the dynamics of how the sport is administered could change forever. Everyone involved in the pro game could be effected by this so I think its only right its discussed. Knowledge is power and hopefully we can share and pool or collective thoughts and experience and get a clearer vision of where we are heading. If they had cameras in the court rooms like they did with O.J Simpson I'd be glued to it!!!!

No need to imagine mate - I've just told you the score

It's not as woolly as 'sanctions'. The EBU voted to expel the LBF if they go ahead with the promotion - they know full well that they'll be given the heave ho and they aren't bothered. Come 15th July, they'll no longer be in the EBU.

Ah. now is it the 14th or 15th? Could make all the difference.

They are a member of the EBU until they proceed with the promotion. I don't know what exactly constitutes 'proceeding with the promotion' though...

Ah, OK. Because you wrote this "I can imagine though it just states if the show goes ahead then there will be sanctions" that there was some doubt over to what that sanction might be - there isn't.

Let me try and find out some more and I'll get back to you. :TU:

When I know, you'll know! You might find this hard to believe but sometimes, people don't want to tell me things. To be fair they haven't really had chance to respond yet.

My crystal ball sees real confusion ahead . After the promotion on 14 July , the Board will gather their evidence in terms of who officiated. Thereafter they will invite those involved to attend at the Board with their legal advisors . I think they will start at the top ( FW) and work their way down to the boxers . In all likliehood , after much debate and legal arguments , ALL will have their licences revoked ,probably for a year . Failure to reach this conclusion would mean that in the future ,anyone who is sanctioned for a misdemeanour could simply invite the Luxembourg Federation or perhaps the Latvian Federation to hold promotions in this country until the sanction is lifted .
This is when confusion will reign . If the Board impose the ban before 22 September ,what will happen to he Burns v Mitchell fight . I understand the promoter is FW . I think he manages Mitchell . Mick Williamson may well be at ringside on 14th ,and is usually a cutman on FW promotions . Ernie Draper may well be the Whip on the 14th. In addition , I think the WBO has something to do with the Haye v Chisora fight ??? , if that is the case will the Board refuse to work with the WBO again ? If that is the case , and I think its likely , then Burns and Cleverly will not be able to defend on a promotion officated by the Board .
Although I feel Dean Powell ( who is apparently not taking part on 14th ) will take over the management of FW's fighters , and FW 's sons will become the promoters , if he is suspended , what's to happen to Burns and Cleverly if the WBO situation materialises ? Maybe the WBO are not involved this weekend , but I think I read somewhere that they were . If I'm right , the Board simply cannot punish individual licence holders without cutting all ties with the WBO for committing the same 'offence ' .
It now looks like the fight will go ahead . This fact almost destroys any faith I had in boxing turning itself around. If the Board fail to take effective action afterwards, then they lose all credibility amongst the honest ,and loyal members ,who regularly ,and sometimes reluctantly, abide by the rules . All in all ,its a sad situation, brought about by somebody who is not used to hearing the word 'no' .

Dalculmy,

Excellent post - lots of questions.... I don't know why but somehow I have the feeling there will be a wrap on the knuckles, Chisora will get an appeal date for his BBBoC licence and everything will be normal.

However, for the moral position that has been taken I seriously hope that there are some major sanctions. I completely forgot about the WBO angle.

One thing though, they have noted that any people with any involvement (directly or indirectly) will have their licences suspended. This could even be the promotion of the fight.... Francis Warren was in the press conference.

Will allegedly be allowed to screen BBBoC fights in future, is another thing that might need to be discussed by the BBBoC?

Some of that made a lot of sense and I (until recently) though it would pan out as you described in some aspects but I don't think it will even get to that now. The best the Board can do I reckon is pull you on Reg 4.9 but then how are you bringing the sport into disrepute when all you are doing is working with an EBU affiliated organisation?

As has been said many times...

Legally right
Morally wrong

We should all note that while FW is making comments in the Sun , Bruce Baker is speaking out ,and apparently the Luxembourg organisation is threatening to sue the Board , the Board are actually saying nothing . This is exactly how to deal with this . Keep you tinder dry ,and only deal with matters in a formal manner , that is , in writing .
The Board , as we all know have highly qualified QC's connected with them , and I believe they will provide advice ,virtually free of charge . The Board is an organisation which acts for and behalf of its members ( licence holders ) . If the officials of the Board act with the support of a majority of its members ,they can do anything they want ,within the law . That means excluding other members for breaching the regulations .
( If there is a dress code at a golf club and a few members refuse to abide by that code then they can be refused membership on those grounds . They are entitled to join another golf club ,of course .)
Trust my crystal ball , with the support of the majority of licencees ,the Board will suspend all those involved on Saturday night and I can see future WBO fights with Burns and Cleverly being held under the auspices of the Luxembourg amateurs .

I think they would love to and would do if they could. How/why could the board suspend/ban members involved in saturdays show. They can't just do it cos they feel like it. If the board made it crystal clear as to why you will be banned stating the regulations you have broke it would put a lot or people off participating. I know in there original statement they outlined some of the information I eluded to but then they back tracked the same as the EBU when they temporarily suspended the LBF.

@ Dondada

If its the 15th that they are expelled are you of the same opinion as me that the board are powerless to take and serious actions such as suspensions and bans?

You know the regs better than I do! I'd have to have a look. If there's a general disrepute clause they could have a strong case. Maybe they should just focus their minds on how else they might achieve their objectives. If certain parties are in breach of any other regulations separate from this bill either currently or in the future, address those with as much vigour as they've pursued this.. Box clever, as 'twere.

I think the disrepute Reg comes under the Misconduct regulation 25.
Reg 4.9 deals with the suspension or withdrawal of licences due to actions that isnt in the interests or welfare of boxing.

I think to use either regulation against a boxer you must have broken a rule or done something that actually constitutes towards misconduct which is where the Board might struggle as it looks like fighting on a licenced show whose governing body/federation/commission is affiliated/recognised with its own (Both being in the EBU).

well im now in a split as far as what i want the board to do , which has been further complicated by the fact that a lad i know has been today offered a spot on the undercard , a lad who has boxed for me in the past .

Ive told him its a bit of a risk but i understand hes apparantly accepted the fight , so will be interesting even more so now to see how this pans out , id hate to see a young lad lose his license .

I hope they take strong action against FW because he is out of order and he knows it.
If they don't it will give everyone in boxing carte blanche to do what they want and this tough game needs regulation.
Perhaps FW thinks because he financially bailed out the board over the Watson case and they let him not pay Calzaghe for the Hopkins fight, that he gets special treatment.

I would have thought you would have liked him after the way he has looked after Nathan?
