You forgot to also add faster and with one of the best chins on any heavyweight in history
Yep...you got it...

Or it's like Ali fighting a prime Joe Frazier...

Or like Frazier fighting a prime Ali who had not been out of boxing for 1277 days

Yup, surely he had shaken off the rust by the time Norton beat the dog shit out of him? It's repulsive that when dealing with a topic as universally great as Ali's career his cronies have to make an excuse for every misstep along the way. It actually diminishes Ali as a whole to act like he was a shell of himself after the exile, that means all of those opponents weren't as good as we thought they were.

I wonder who that convincing imposter was fighting Quarry and Bonavena while Ali was still off.

I dont, but in one category: POWER. Fulton, Morris, and Gunboat Smith hit as hard as Foreman or close enough. I never said being great boxers; and mind you the young Foreman wasnt the cleanest, sharpest boxer out there. In fact the young George was quite sloppy.

Guesstimation. It is just common logic that Frazier in no way fought the best Ali in 1971. If Tiger Woods was off 3.5 years would he be expected to beat the best golfers after only 2 golf events? If Dan Marino was off 3.5 years would we expected him to be able to perform at his best in the Super Bowl after only 2 games to shake off the rust? As for Ken Norton vs Ali there are no excuses. I'm not even saying Ali wouldve won in 1971,if not for the forced retirement but it would have been much different fight imo

All i was talking about was power, those guys could punch but all three of them combined wouldn't make a Foreman.

No, nothing needs to be crunched. You think Gunboat Smith punched as hard as George Foreman, all that deserves is

It's review for future reference. :TU:

Just can't deal with the fact that Ali failed in the FOTC, can you?

Frazier won fair and square.

Joe also had his own issues coming into the fight, blood pressure problems and a broken ankle less than 12 months before the FOTC.

Ali had SIX times the rounds in the ring than Frazier did in the six months leading into the FOTC.

Are you so naive as to really believe that Ali was completely away from the ring during his "forced retirement"?

Ali lost the most important fight of his career. :OhYes:

The fight with the whole world watching two undefeated greats at a time when both were nearest their peaks and knowing it was the seminal moment of their careers.

Stop the unseemly whining and deal with it.

HomicideHenry wrote:Whats there to laugh about? Fulton is indeed one of the top 100 punchers of the last 80-100 years. Morris may of had a weak chin, but his kayo record doesn't lie. Neither does Gunboat Smith's, the man was the white version of Sam McVey, a genuine powerhouse. That being said no Gunboat wasnt a good boxer, but then again neither was Earnie Shavers.
Where do you get that Gunboat Smith wasn't a good boxer? He was much more a shifty boxer-puncher who had very good power for his size, but he was certainly no Earnie Shavers or even a Bob Satterfield when it came to punching power.

For pure punching ability, I'd put Fulton and Firpo as being the only guys Dempsey fought who had power in Foreman's league.

All attendance records would have been broken if these 2 could have magically met up. I dont think I can name 2 more popular fighter imo

Dempsey took years out of the sport when he became a star. Then he fought Tunney and lost. Why should we not factor this in...but should factor Ali's tiem out of the ring?

Just interested.

Do get a life Urine! :D What is a coinasaurus? Its not a word Ive used before. I can only assume that over in Dongo Creek where you were bred in the dunnie of the "Ugly Sheila and Roo" drinking tavern, it is a word used to describe someone who doesnt like to pay for a round of drinks....I can imagine in the primitive vehnacular of the average outback jack anyone who is sore about coughing up a few coins is a coinasaurus!! :D :OhYes:

Ali vs Dempsey? Seriously?

Not even close. Tunney vs Ali would have been much more interesting, as he had some good boxing skills ahead of his time.
