I never thought about the result to be honest, I never analysed the fight and looked through the record of Thompson. However, I knew soon as he met a good Yank he would be found out. I don't get the lucky punch angle, he threw that punch and it landed end of. That's how fights are generally won. The problem is and ive said this before we do not have quality in this country anymore, what quality we have just dodge each other and keep fighting imports. They should fight whats in the division rather than thinking pound signs, get to the top of the league then venture out and see if they have it. Its not surprising at all, Fury will go the same way next fight.Terminator666 wrote:Did anyone on here actually predict this result?

Re: Well Well Well
The current consensus no 1 Heavyweight in the world suffered a series of early career KO's, altered his style to become cautiously defence minded and has since never looked in danger of being cleaned out. He is now being talked about among the greatest of all time.palooka wrote:If Price becomes a defence minded boxer he loses his advantages and invites a puncher to try for it.
Ross Purrity had a lot less world level credibility than Thompson does currently.
This is Heavyweight boxing, these things happen. Thompson was a step up in class for Price and he lost. I wouldn't say he was found out and I'd still back Price to win against most of the current top 15-20 heavies, including against Thompson in a rematch. Maybe his run of easy KO's blinded him to a need for defence and this upset is the reminder that he needed not to neglect the basics?
This was a lot less shocking than Khan losing to the relatively unknown Prescott - a fight that didn't stop Amir going on to become a world champ.

Re: Well Well Well
I liked Price and was excited about his prospects, but I just wanted so desperately to believe in an exciting fighter with heavy artillery laying out Wlad that my judgement was possibly clouded. Not only does his punch resistance come up short but his defence is careless too. Maybe he can sort it all out like Wlad did, but I doubt it. If Price had taken a left from Corrie Sanders like the one Wlad got up from, he would still be asleep now.
This is Steffen Kretschmann all over again. (In that if I had paid attention and put a little on the overpriced massive upside of a touted but dubious-chinned fighter getting Ko'd...)
depressing. As you were, heavyweights.

Re: Well Well Well
Nope. Didn't see it coming. Price inside 3 was one of my weekend bets. It's was on the cards but I didn't expect a flabby yank in Thompson doing it. I was more confident in Harrison winning PF (backed at 9/2) than Price winning inside 3 though so I really should have listened to my gut feeling and edged the Price bet. Im honestly not sure he will be able to 're-group after this. Klit could, because he isn't actually that chinny and has a ramrod jab and robotic one two that is very very effective. I sincerely hope Price can come back from this somehow as he seems to have the right temprment, work ethic and attitude.Terminator666 wrote:Did anyone on here actually predict this result?

Re: Well Well Well
Good post. Seems like a lot of people predicted this on here given their joyous, self satisfied posts after the event so it shouldn't be too difficult to muster a few links to previous topics in which they said Thompson was going to win very early.Terminator666 wrote:Did anyone on here actually predict this result?

Re: Well Well Well
I disagree Fury boxed brilliantly it was Johnson that didnt take the risks, Fury walked him down on plenty of occasions and Johnson was getting peppered with the jab so much he was unwilling to throw punches back.gobbles wrote:Look at the way Fury and Price fought their last fights. Against Johnson, Fury didn't take a risk and stunk the place out, but got the win. Price tried to get stuck into Thompson too early and paid the price.
That doesn't mean Fury beats Price, it means Fury had a better gameplan. It also might mean we will se a cautious Price in future.
I think it clear as night and day that Fury would have handed Price his arse last night. You cant tell me that if Price stood 2 ft in front of Fury and threw a completely off target upper cut whilst leaving his left hand down by his waste he wouldn't have been punished for it, Audley Harrison of last night could have taken Price last night.
I think the nerves got to him, he looked awful, i think it could be that he's too used to fighting people alot smaller than him. When he fought harrison, aud stood in front of him not throwing a jab, all price needed to do was pick a shot. Fury, Audley from last nigh and Thompson all would have or did move out of range and flick out a decent jab making price come forward throwing the wrong punches and then exploit it. I want to see Thompson v Harrison.
Re: Well Well Well
What makes me laugh about most posts is the fact that not many seem to realise you can like both Price AND Fury. It seems to get very tribal, a preference is one thing but you don't have to stand on top of the other after he's been ko'd shouting "you got knocked the fk out". Fury will have some trying times and the two will probably meet in a just as eagerly anticipated clash somewhere down the line. I thought there were question marks over Price, but I think the same of Fury (despite him being my slight preference). You still can't pick a sure winner imo.

There's no real comparison to Wlad - he got taken out by an absolutely massive puncher in Sanders, with left hooks that would knock down walls. And that really wasn't the case last night, at all.
Fury / Price will be fun, if it happens, and it will clearly be whoever lands first. Fury has the edge in the chin dept, and Price certainly has the edge in power. Bombs away lads

The bottom line is this ,people in the know have told the storys of Prices trips to the canvas in the ABAs,yet the Fury haters/Price nut huggers and respected journalists like big daddy Bunce seem to wanna skate over this fact .
I said on other threads we knew how Fury reacted when put down ,Tyson gets up and knocks them out ,something we didn't know if Price could do,Well Everyone can see now how David Price reacts to being caught,he does the funky chicken dance like he did in the ABAs
I have never said i thought Fury could win a world title ,but i have said that he will beat Price from day one !

Re: Well Well Well
I'm also puzzled by the simple equation being put forward that because Price has been beaten Fury has improved. The latter doesn't follow from the former. They're unrelated.

Completely agree.bynino wrote:After sleeping on this. Price should rematch thompson, beat him and then move on.
Thompson had nothing to trouble price. And landed a lucky blow, had nothing to do with skill.
And thanks to some of the cretins showing us up on live tele. Booing the national anthem? ridiculous!
Tony Thompson was respectful throughout all the interviews in the runup to the bout. And we do that?
When the brain-dead zombies amongst the crowd started booing during his national anthem (tasteless), you could see Thompson react.
Exactly how thick are some people?
Did they actually think it would demoralise him?
Did they think at all?
All it would ever do is motivate him.

It wasn't a hard shot though, it was a cuffing arm punch with no real leverage behind it. I thought Price had been hit with a southpaw right uppercut by Thompson, as his back was to the camera obscuring what was happening, just before he got clipped around the ear. A shocking lack of punch resistance and powers of recuperation. He's going nowhere at world level, he would be a highlight reel knockout waiting to happen. Even Khan's ability to take a punch is superior, and he's another accident waiting to happen.palooka wrote:Price has the advantage of height, reach and sheer size but does not have the resiliance to cope with getting hit hard. I hope that they make the Fury bout, it'll be good. (Price comes across as very level headed and likable but no way will he win a world title).

I don't rate either of them!
They're both 3 & 4 behind Haye and Del Boy for my liking.
I'd have a fit, focused Chisora to beat both Price & Fury.

And not as a bigger puncher too as Naven Pajikic was only 16-0 with 5 knockouts on his slate going into that fight. So if Pajikic can drop him what the hell is one of the Brothers K going to do to Tyson Fury when he gets his go at one of them as both Wladimir and Vitali have knockout percentages that puts them up there with all time greats.ValleysGav wrote:he be back.

Re: Well Well Well
Unless Price can tighten up that defence significantly, i think this is the death knell for any notion of heavyweight supremacy.
Price clearly doesn't have the beard, it was the one question mark, and it has been answered. I was very optimistic about his future, but the issues with his chin won't go away. Wlad has a poor chin too, but he was never totally finished with one shot, his problem was not being able to fight smart when hurt, he would just fall to bits.
It appears that one big shot is enough to end it with price. It's going to be nigh on impossible for him to dominate at top level.

Agreed, compared to Price, wlad seems like Oliver McCall - Wlad has only been stopped by a barrage of power shots, Price was finished by a single arm punch - i hate to admit it, but my hopes for Price have evaporated.MightyWarrior wrote:There's no real comparison to Wlad - he got taken out by an absolutely massive puncher in Sanders, with left hooks that would knock down walls. He might beat Thompson in a rematch, but that chin isn't going to improve, he just isn't built to take a shot, and at heavyweight, a chin that porous is never going to allow you to get to the top.

Re: HAHAHAHA PRICE IS TOAST !!!
Yes he does, but he's been hurt by lesser fighters than Thompson, with less power, so let's start making out he's Oliver McCall. Let's see what happens to Fury when he has his next fight.mrpedigree wrote:Hes gotta better chin than your manSamWise72 wrote:I still think Fury is jank. I don't see Price doing much at world level now, the one weak link has been truly exposed, but that doesn't mean Fury is going any further. Both men have glaring deficiencies.

There's no way back from a chin that bad - he just cannot carry a shot. Until now, nobody had really landed anything of note, the first time he faced a good puncher that found his chin with a halfway decent shot, he folded like a carpenters rule.bynino wrote:Its one of those "he lost but he actually won". He should get back in the ring as soon as possible.
As I have said before, fury's loss is in the post.
On watching it again, i agree that maybe he did get up a little too quick. But that may have been down to the shock and embarrasment of getting knocked down infront of your home fans.
David Price is an intelligent, level headed guy and will definitely come back from this.
And we all put best on round 1,3,4,5, and i laughed when i saw the odds for thompson scoring a ko haha

Re: Well Well Well
I just think that Price expected to blast Tony out of there like he has been doing to everyone else and that in turn led to him being sloppy. He was winning the fight and looked like he would KO Thompson soon enough.
Then, in the second round, David throws a terrible right uppercut, twists his body and just stands there in front of Thompson in this twisted position. If you stand like that with any decent heavyweight you are asking for trouble. The shot behind the ear did the most damage possible because he was off balance to start with.
I don't know why people seem to gloat when a boxer loses a fight. David will be back. He's still got his belts. Take your lumps, learn and don't make the same mistake again (which I don't think he will).
Hope Frank makes a full recovery!

Name one heavyweight that chinny, who ever made it to the top of the pile. Even Floyd Patterson, had to be knocked down again and again before he could be stopped. Lewis was only ever stopped by absolute peach punches with full bodyweight behind them. Wlad and Bruno both ate a barrage of shots before capitulating.jamesmcdonnell wrote:There's no way back from a chin that bad - he just cannot carry a shot. Price won't go beyond European level, and even there will always be at risk against a durable banger.
