Right, a difficult one I think.
Because of one punch I threw, the rules of boxing were changed forever.

As HH said earlier, we have both been doing this on several other sites.
Now when it comes to trivia, I'm not even close to being in Henry's league (no one is, really!)... but it's still kind of a passion of mine. I don't know why, but I've always wanted to know, who accomplished something for the first time, the last time or the only time. Or who did something in consecutive fights, or the most times in a year, or a decade, or the furthest apart etc., etc. Anything odd/strange/interesting that can be found when scrutinizing a boxer's record. The possibilities are almost endless.
Anyway, it's really nice to see, that there are other posters on this site, who are taking the trouble to come up with some good brain-teasers
Yea, don't believe everything you read. Before things like "Google" Sport writers use to call me all the time, now I might get a few calls a month.Controversial wrote:I just googled you, you sound like an interesting fella and very knowledgeable. It must be great doing something you love, great stuff, love hearing about guys like you. You said earlier you know about other sports as well, do you have a photographic memory, know answers off the top of your head or do you need to look stuff up? Is boxing your favourite sport, the one you know most about?hhascup wrote:

I also like your questions, as does Bundana. We get tired of just us, so it's Great to have some others that have a love for Boxing Trivia.
I know I am leaving something out, But you get the idea!
For years many people have been saying that I have a photographic memory because I don't use any notes, But I really don't think so. I do remember things a lot especially things I love or that are interesting. Boxing is my favorite sport But I also Love Baseball, football, basketball, NASCAR and Track & Field. The reason I got into boxing more is that there were so many mistakes in the record books so I started going to the library and going through all the micro-films. In a while I had 25,000 fights and I made 1,000's of corrections for Ring Record Book, which includes over 200 World Champions.Controversial wrote:It must be great doing something you love, great stuff, love hearing about guys like you. Unfortunately sir there are people through either youth, idiocy, or egotistical irrelevance that would try to dispute this fact.

You can read more about it by googling my name. There several web site that have stories on me.
Just to let you know, when I was 1-1/2 years old I was taken away from my real parents because they were very very poor. I was put into a Foster Home, then given Foster Parents. My Foster Parents were told that it was a 99% chance that they could adopt me, so they changed my name to Bruce James McKnight and I was told that they were my real parents. Then when I was 8 years old, my Foster Parents had to tell me the truth. I must of had a break down as I couldn't put 2 words together, I couldn't read, I got left back. Kids made fun of me because of the way I tried to read and speak.
A little time later I was taken away from my Foster Parents and put into the Newark Foster Home and then about a year later I went back to my real parents in Paterson, New Jersey, and started using my real name of Henry Hascup for the very first time that I can remember. That is when I found out what poor was all about. I use to jump into a garbage bind to get bread the bakery threw away each morning. I would then go home and put evaporated milk & water on it and that was my breakfast. At night I would collect soda bottles, as you got 2 cents for everyone. I would stand on lines with the so called homeless people each week to get some food. We didn't have a bath tub and it was a cold water flat, which means that we didn't have hot water.
To this day, I still can not read that well, and I have trouble pronouncing some words. That is why when I do talk or announce I try to get all the names before hand and then I put them on tech speech. When I do a Eulogy, I don't read anything, I just talk from my heart, and I have done over 200 of them including several World Champions (Giardello, Gatti, Larkin). When I tell people about this, they all say that they would have never known if I didn't tell them.
This is why I am so proud of the things I have done. If anyone told me that when I grew up, I would be a Ring Announcer, a Master of Ceremonies, giving Eulogy's in front of 100's and even 1000's of people, I would have said they were crazy.
Last year at the 1st New York Boxing Hall of Fame Awards Dinner I was asked to present awards to or to the families of Jake LaMotta, Benny Leonard, Tony Canzoneri, Gil Clancy and when I was going up to present the award to the final inductee of the affair, I stood there in front of over 500 boxing people I thought about all those kids that laughed at me, and said to myself, "Who has the last laugh Now" as I proceeded to present the family of the Greatest Fighter pound for pound that ever stepped into the squared circle, Sugar Ray Robinson.
Someone asked the son of former Heavyweight Contender Charlie Norkus, who attended the affair, how can this guy stand up there in front of all these people, and don't have a note in front of him. Charlie Jr. said I guess you don't know Henry!
I have many, here's one on a forgotten fighter:Oh man, what a story, you should write a book. Who is your favourite fighter? Any stories about fighters you have met that you can tell?
Good stuff. I won't ask a question about Tippy then :-)hhascup wrote:I have many, here's one on a forgotten fighter:Oh man, what a story, you should write a book. Who is your favourite fighter? Any stories about fighters you have met that you can tell?
I first met Tippy Larkin in 1978.
When he passed away on December 10, 1991, I was asked to give the Eulogy.
