Your obvious relish at the spectacle of an old, sick fighter taking a beating is truly creepy.

Ali probably picked his nose on the way to the ring and wiped it on the back of someone's seat. thats the real Ali for you.

I think you're taking this much too personal.

When you pull a 'charade' on the buying public, you become 'fair game'.
The mind was willing. The body wasn't.

Do you really think a few bad fights at the end of a career can undermine a career that saw victories over three other top ten all time greats and seven International Boxing Hall Of Fame members?

It was 'over'.

Any thought that Larry Holmes would punch himself out {which the Muhammad Ali Camp was
hoping for} was just silly and foolish thoughts.

In Round 6, Larry fought an extremely intelligent and brilliantly executed session. A Round that
still 'Marvels-the-Mind'.

Larry landed '29' solid left-jabs, while pawing-and-measuring with another '10' over the last
40-Seconds.

Larry sent in '13' hard left-hooks, and topped it off with '12' jarring right-hands.

The 'first' right-hand that Larry threw, was a jarring punch that landed at the {1:23 Mark}.

A calculated and an extremely efficient '54-Punch' total, with only a minimal amount of wasted
punches.

On the other side of the Ring, Muhammad had one of his better Rounds, but landed only '14'
light left-jabs, and '2' snappy lefts in the session. Muhammad only attempted 'one' hard punch,
a left-hook that was wild-high and went over Larry's head.

Muhammad did not attempt to throw his 'secret weapon' once, the right-hand lead.

As Angelo Dundee sat quietly on the top step near the Muhammad Ali's corner, he could only
search his mind for 'once what was'. There would be no 'Magic' tonight, and he knew it.

This was no old guy Muhammad was fighting, or a big lumbering heavy armed fighter,
or even an inexperienced fighter who would punch himself out. Muhammad was fighting a
'brilliant technician' who could care less if he knocked Muhammad out.

Muhammad's 'chatter buddy' Drew 'Bundini' Brown could only yell 'hollow words' of encouragement
from far away in the distance, as he had no 'catchy phrases' anymore. No 'Lucky Charms',
no 'Incantations', and unable to 'Cast a Magic Spell' from any Words-of-Wisdom.

Can you give us the scuttlebut on this bout please:

1980...A very humiliating year for me. Two of my greatest boxing heroes, lost....painfully. Ali loss to the great Larry Holmes was painful. I have only seen the fight once.

And of course, the great Roberto Duran quits against the great Sugar Ray Leonard in New Orleans :verysad: :verysad: :verysad:

My dad told me stories about that fight when I was a kid and the way he described it was very sad. I never watched it until a couple months ago I figured I should watch it and get it out of the way. Ali never was in the fight imo and was taking a good beating. It just broke my heart seeing Ali trying to dance and move at one point but he wasn't throwing any punches (mid fight or 7,8?) and you could see the look of defeat in Ali's eyes early on too.

It could have been stopped a round or two earlier but all I know is I have no intention in ever watching that fight ever again. That fight literally made me sad the rest of the day.

It only shows, that the people who put you back in the Ring, try to tell you that you are better than
what you really are, and sell you on more $$$$$, when they don't have to 'Take-A-Punch' for a Dollar.

The Muhammad Ali Camp actually believed that Larry Holmes would punch himself out in 7 or 8 Rounds, and
that Muhammad would 'magically' recapture his youth and become the Master once again, and stop Larry
with an over-whelming flurry in Round 9.

Manager - Jabir Muhammad, in the days before this bout, was already discussing future plans with Don King,
to have Muhammad Ali fight Gerry Cooney and/or possibly WBA Champion- Mike Weaver.

They could never fathom the 'Money-Train' ending.

There was 'absolutely' no concern for Muhammad Ali's well-being, only that he could bring in lots of 'cash'.
I GUESS that happens to every one that used to win lots of fights. Once that horse does not win anymore, that fighter's friends, his so called "friends" disappear too.
That happened to Ali, Duran, Tyson and even recently, Roy Jones, Jr. and Evander Holyfield
