Blah blah blah, even if evolution has gone into warp speed over the last 30 years, tell us how De La Hoya beats Hagler? What are the performances that lead you to believe this, the Vargas fight???
Or maybe write a few more paragraphs on golf and snooker.

Well done, you can use boxrec. Now tell us what situations in those disputed decisions would De La Hoya have been able to capitalise on?
Are you implying DLH was physically stronger than Hagler due to modern training techniques?

No not at all, but DLH was smarter, faster and had a better jab, his right cross and upper cuts were more accurate, were talking about an olympic champion here, a six weight world champion. I mean canelo and cotto were supposed to give Floyd trouble, they are big durable hard hitters, they both got destroyed.
It don't matter what I say, people will pick it apart.

He didn't have a great record at 160 though, which is where this fight would be. He got that gift decision over Sturm in Vegas where he looked pudgy, then got banged out by Hopkins.
Great fighter, decent career and came up through the weights but didn't have the frame for middleweight, really.
He also faded late in fights and that would be crucial here, given Hagler was fond of 15 round fights.
I can see a case for what you're saying, taking SRL's blueprint for "beating" Hagler which is stealing rounds with eye catching flurries in the last 30 seconds and frustrating him by not engaging and using speed but I just see him fading badly here against someone who was extremely accurate and relentless and had an iron chin.
He also didn't have great footwork or movement, if you look at the fight against Pac and ignore the fact he was clearly drained, even in the early rounds his southpaw stance and foot placement made him look like a statue.

Golf, snooker and athletics were 3 examples of sports I reeled of because I've done all 3 and watch all 3, boxing is obviously much more physical and harder to compare as there is no way of comparing stats, we always talk about great boxers living in any era and that is all we can do.
But you can't defend that sport in general is not getter better. There's strong evidence it is in all sports. One on one Individual sports such as boxing and tennis will always have mixed opinions on who was the greatest, and that's cool

You're merely succeeding in making yourself look extremely foolish. Look anywhere on the forum regarding that fight and I said it would be a walk in the park for Money.
Your attempt to also portray it as some sort of ageist argument is also just embarrassing. I love the era of Benn, Eubank and Collins, but Ward will almost certainly go on to be the best super-middleweight ever and could have beaten all of them. I'm also probably in the minority in believing the Klits would have been competitive in any era.
As others have already pointed out on here, you need to educate yourself and then come back to the forum, as your rationale for De La Hoya being able to take out Hagler is up there with some of the best fairy tales I've ever read.

Not so sure he'd have made 152 though. He was a big old lump for a light middle.
I don't. If you took them all at the their prime then I think Floyd would do well to hear the final bell against any of them.
Leonard would have dazzled him
He was made for Hearns
Hagler far too big
Duran the night he beat Leonard was arguably the greatest man to ever step foot in the ring
A prime Floyd would certainly have beaten versions of the fab 4 but each at their best would have got the win.
I disagree that Duran the night he beat Leonard was the greatest man to step foot in the ring. He was better as a lightweight period than at Welter.
and for me that performance by Leonard that night, although an honourable defeat in a great fight, leaves me questioning the one poster who commented on this thread that Leonard was a more complete fighter than Floyd.
Could Leonard deal with the rough, brawling, mauling type of opponent as well as Floyd. I am NOT comparing Duran to Hatton, but Floyd beat Ricky at his own game. Of all the styles that Floyd has faced not one fighter has truly shown the blueprint of how to beat him.
Its actually some of the performances that have been labelled as "weaknesses" for Floyd that for me show how good a fighter he is. How he dealt with Mosley after being hurt was remarkable... you cannot even afford to hurt Floyd! Every fighter that you think has the style to beat Floyd he proves you wrong with interest.
A crying shame he is not an era that is jammed backed with talent. Shame he even missed out on a Trinidad or a beyond question prime DLH... shame he hasn't (yet) fought Manny.
Cheers for the educated response Stu. Makes a change on this forum
Think you might have gotten a little lost on my point regarding Duran mate. Although his lightweight achievements pretty much outweigh anything he done at higher weights, I think his performance in the first SRL fight was the greatest display by any boxer ever and that he was quite simply unbeatable that night.
I'd bet my mortgage on that version of Duran beating any fighter mate.

Yes but orbtastic, the original argument from deserter mentioned these names in comparison to floyds opponents, so it was always a bit unfair in terms of weight class, but this is fantasy fights and talking about p4p lists, so surely i can have the peak of DLH fighting at 160 ? Also the topic was a case for Mayweather being the best ever.
I've never once said Floyd is the greatest fighter of all time, but you can certainly have a case for him stepping into that list the way he is going, he has 4 fights left on his contact ( I reckon 5 in total before he retires ) so we can't really judge him yet.

Lets not forget a "prime(ish)" Duran lost to Laing, Leonard had a tough fight against Kalule and Hagler didn't exactly have it all his own way Mugabi.... Now I would certainly say Alvarez is on the level of these three fighters.
Hagler's dominant Middleweight era wasn't exactly a whose who of boxing in the 12 or so defences.
Infact there is no comparison in the resume of Floyd and Hagler. Hagler smashed everybody but Hearns aside, who did he beat who was top draw and in their prime? Roldan, Mugabi? Rose tinted glasses.
Here is the key difference for me, a bewildered and outclassed Canelo would not have seen the final bell against Leonard, Duran or Hagler, yes they may have taken a few more shots than Floyd in the process, but they were FIGHTERS, and willing to flirt with danger and self destruction in pursuit of a dominant victory, the same can never be said of Mayweather...

Jesus....beaten or unbeaten means nothing, unless you take into account the opposition.
Back in the day, fighters were boxing every few weeks, routinely taking on boxers who'd had 60 or 70 fights - it's a different world now.

If you want an example outside of boxing, tell me why no British middle distance runners can come close to the times set by the likes of Coe and Cram 30 years ago?
The idea that De La Hoya could have beaten Hagler still leaves me chuckling and if you can find one other person to support this hypothesis I salute you.
See your missing the point, the heavyweight scene hasn't got to be the best it's ever been for them to beat the heavyweights from the 50's 60's and 70's. But the human body is getting stronger, bigger, more advanced, with what we eat, how we live, and how we train. It's called evolution.
Your athletics argument was poor, you have chosen one country from the whole world, but for the record the British 1,500 meter record got smashed this year !
Golf, the players scores on average are getting much lower ( you could say equipment is getting better ) but then I would say courses are getter longer, greens are getting faster.
Snooker, players hit maximum 147 breaks all the time now ( so much so the pockets had to be made smaller )
Athletics, times are getting faster, field events are getting longer. ( Carl Lewis was a hero of mine but he wouldn't live with bolt )
Just because haggler was a monster 30 years ago or so dont mean he would of been now. It's all speculation[/quote]

Nah, I did get your point. I will politely disagree. I think Duran slowed up more than he is "credited" (not sure what the right word is there) when he moved up to Welter, which makes his achievements as a 4 weight champion even better.
Yes, I am quite possibly doing Duran a great disservice but I do think Leonard fought the wrong fight and had more talent than any version of the 147 plus Duran. I do think Leonard fighting with brain would have won that first fight.... he did run him fairly close fighting without a brain.
Duran at Lightweight I would actually be inclined to agree - not sure how many could have been the youngster who dominated the lightweight devision like never seen before.

I will disagree - now I am looking at a 154 lbs Canelo vs a 154 Leonard and 154 Duran.... Their KO percentages against world class fighters at that weight were not great.
Roberto duran couldn't even bewilder or outclass Kirklaind Laing, Alvarez may or may not become an excellent champion in his own right, but lets not comparing him to Dave Green here.
It is more difficult to compare with Hagler cause of the weight difference.
Floyd not a fighter??? I'll give you that Floyd isn't the hardest puncher and Floyd has hand problems and wants to prolong his career - but ask Ricky Hatton or Shane Mosley if he is not a fighter. Flirted with danger against Mosley and paid him back with interest that same round - he out Ricky'd Ricky also. If Ricky was told in advance this is how Floyd will fight, he would have been licking his lips and he would have taken that.
