Dennis is nothing to do with gavin stefy manages gavin
Lets hope stefy doesn't do too much of a good job to see Gavin fornicate him off when he gets in a good position.

After all the chat it's Stephen Smith who has joined Matchroom today. Looks like we'll have to wait and see what the McDonnell situation leads to.

He's one of 4 world titleholders in the UK - his profile is miles below the other 3. How many people will have watched the Ceja fight? 10,000?

The timing is strange/poor given last week's announcement that DH had linked up with Queensbury/BN - but then Jamie has stated he knew nothing about that proposed deal. Either he's lying or it's poor communication from Hobson, as surely he would want/need to keep JM informed of any proposed agreement throughout every stage of negotiations.

I can't blame McDonnell for wanting to fight for Matchroom. It's by the far the best option for any UK boxer at the moment. I'm just surprised he couldn't do a deal and keep Dennis as his manager.
But all 4 of our other world titleists ( not the three you state??) are all match room boys. No other promoter can currently compete with that so Jamie is never going to be as high profile surely??
1. 3 others - Froch, Barker, Burns. I do not include Quigg. Guillermo Rigondeaux is the WBA 122lbs champion. Quigg's belt is meaningless. I'm sure you know about the WBA's 'multiple champions per division' policy - I do not recognise 2nd/3rd tier titlists (of which Quigg is one) to be major titleholders.

2. Do you mean JM wouldn't be as high profile as other Matchroom champions if he was fighting for them, or because he isn't with Matchroom?
Fair enough mate. He still holds a "world title" though which is why I used the phrase i did - and he can and will be promoted as such! And froch is a "unified" champion. (Whereas the reality is different, I agree)

The latter mate. No other promoter can currently match the profile matchroom can give their boys.

Hobson Promotions are digging in.
If Dennis has got a valid board agreement properly dated and signed etc I am sure the board will back Dennis's stance and rightly so IMO problems usually arise when other contracts are signed which are nothing to do with the board and disputes over those contracts are civil matters and the only people who make money out of those disputes are solicitors if I was Jamie my first redress would be to sit down and talk with Dennis and explain his concerns and problems etc and try and reach agreement like gentlemen rather than risk a lengthy court battle if solicitors advise you to do something the first thing they are thinking about is what's in it for them coz after all somebody will end up with a hefty bill to pay

Well, I guess it depends on a person's definition of a 'world title'. In my book, just because the WBA choose to give a top contender a second-tier belt so they can pick up more sanctioning fees, just because the promoter brands him a champion to sell more tickets, just because a TV network calls it a major title fight to get more views, doesn't make it real. In my view you can call WBC, WBA (top-tier), IBF, WBO major titles - any second-tier belts/sanctioning bodies shouldn't be regarded.

Going back to JM - that was kind of my point. If another promoter can't get him as big a profile (whatever the reasons), then surely it is not unreasonable for him to want to fight for Matchroom? As they can get him the largest viewing figures, biggest profile, most money. If I was Jamie, I wouldn't want to be fighting in front of less than 10,000 people on Primetime. I'd want to be on Sky Sports. What is disappointing is that he couldn't keep Dennis Hobson on board in a trainer/manager capacity, like Lee Selby has with Chris Sanigar.

Spudder,
That's just plain ridiculous and a massive generalisation.
Rumpole who posts on here has delivered many a wise word in recent months to fighters.
I've gone through the mill myself on occasions.
I find it insulting to suggest that any advice would be prioritised as 1/ what's in it for me 2/ what can be done for the fighter or promotor.
Each case is unique.
No point in speculating about what's right and what's wrong. Only the two parties know the content of the contract, and the expiry date.
I hate those bloody words tortuous intervention !

Don't disagree with anything there mate.

However matchroom are, and will, promote quigg as a world champ, and froch as a two belt holder. It fools 99% of the public save for us boxing saddos!

What I struggled with is joe Gallagher etc claiming world champ status when they obviously know its hollow.

In terms of JM, loyalty is a funny thing. I always think of the old cliche about being true to people on the way up as you might well need them on the way back down. But then I haven't got his mortgage and bills to pay!!

The thing is that not every capable boxer can be promoted/positioned into being a superstar who crosses over to mainstream appeal - there have been loads of excellent boxers who get a world title and people in the street don't have a clue who they are and most people don't care and do not care for boxing. There are far more boxers than there are interesting personalities that box to a high standard; for all the bollocks and wrangling, if McDonnell falls on his arse and gets knocked out next time out then he's chucked someone who has been with him for 8 years and helped him up there for someone who is in a position to earn him more money - Hearn wouldn't be as patient or generous as Hobson has been. Jamie won't be a big public figure or massive boxing star - he isn't explosive enough and hasn't in 8 years said anything that is interesting to someone not interested in boxing, he seems a nice kid and all but this seems a bit snide.

Thank you :salut: , I was looking in the cupboard but couldn't see anything that'd make it more appealing. The Doncaster Free Press had a bit in and Jamie said there were a few offers etc but there was a bit from Eddie and Jamie was moaning he'd not got a fight sorted but at the end of the article it said he'd got a mandatory next month.

Steffy says Gavin won't be ready to fight Galahad on Nov 30th yet he's down to box TBA in Donny 6 days later.

The Boxing Board say the contract is valid.

Hobson said earlier someone was behind this mischief. fightacademy is keeping his counsel on this one and why Gavin wouldn't box Galahad.

There are only so many people who can profit out of mischief like this and Galahad is a full league above Gavin and it'd be a stupid bout to take; Galahad is in a talent packed division and in a year or 18 months of seasoning he will be really up there - Gavin has done well after a long time out - all the time out Galahad has been training and sparring and improving.
