Not that easy because 1: some lower seats are unusable if people are on the pitch. 2: Just because people are on the pitch that does not raise capacity, because there is a safety certificate for only a certain amount of people. 3: Apparently the old main stand had loads of seats that can't be used for boxing because of terrible views
If the seats can be used for football, they can be used for boxing, if there's a restricted view, the seats will be sold for less and there won't be loads, that main stand is the smallest in the ground and not every seat will be restricted. The lower seats can still be used, it's just that the view won't be great, no different to the front row of the raised seating in an arena. Hatton had 55,000 in at City and it only holds 47,000, the safety certificate won't be a problem, as long as there's enough exits so everyone can leave quickly if there's a fire or something like that.
Generally it seems that compared to football, boxing raises the capacity by at least 8,000, for the City Ground that would mean a capacity of 38,500 minimum.
Restricted view is a bit different if you are watching a playing area as big as a football pitch compared to one as small as a boxing ring 40-50 yards away.
You cannot simply upgrade your safety certificate for bigger crowds. For Dave Coldwell's recent show at Ice Sheffield, for instance, half the rinkside seats were roped off as the safety certificate was for a set number, which did not include people sat on what was normally the ice. To get a bigger safety certificate, they would have to hold a trial event with a larger crowd, to show that there were enough exits in case of an emergency. I have no idea what access is like to the pitch at Forest, but if they have to gain entry through a stand, this is a problem.

Gobbles is correct, local fire & rescue has a big input now on this matter since the Bradford fire & Hillsborough.
Two sets of opposing/ hostile fans, drunk and coming to watch a fight has all the ingredients for trouble in their eyes.
Although we know as fans, it's not really the case bar the odd idiot.

I'm baffled by your comments.
Why is there going to be trouble in Notts if Groves wins ?
Do you also assume there will be trouble at the Emirates if Froch wins ?
Also what is the problem with the Millennium - its staged boxing enough times before - not that I think its a hope in hell of being there.
Maybe the Management don't fancy boxing any more having been ripped off previously.

didn't know they'd done boxing at the Millenium mate. I've been to see football there and my first impression was that it's the size of 2 stadiums placed into one. Had a great view of the match from my seat tho but boxing is smaller. In Sheffield at the Khan Diaz fight, it was a real strain to follow the action from where I was sat, 60 or 70 odd yards away. I thought at the Millenium, it might be similar.
Re Nottingham, it just smacks to much of a "home" fixture for Froch. If he was fighting a foreigner - in fact I've watched Froch at the Trent Arena, then fine. But against another Englishman I think they should move it somewhere more neutral.
Froch is like granite, so IF Groves fights like last time the fans will already be at fever-pitch. He's also such an arrogant so-and-so I think some morons might take offence if their golden boy gets done, at home.
I wouldn't trust a boxing crowd (big event) as far as I could throw it. Look at the debacle after Eubank Watson II and the difficulty they had getting help to Watson and getting him out. I just think if Froch gets beat in Nottingham there'll be unsavoury fallout. It won't be there anyway.

If you were struggling at Sheffield Arena(where everybody got upgraded due to poor sales) then stadium boxing really isn't for you! P.s how did Calzaghe-Kessler and it's 'record crowd' escape you?

Have you never heard of Champions wanting home advantage ?
Do you not see the Emirates as home advantage for Groves ?
You cant be much of a fan if you've not heard of boxing at the Millennium !!
Eubank v Watson was in 1991 I think things have moved on a bit since then

I just realised that Calzaghe Kessler must have been there when I came back to this thread....that one aside, I can't think of any others at the Millenium. Have there been many/ any?
The arena just wasn't a great seat, too far away. Could see it, but looking at a brightly lit square from that far away wasn't comfortable. Been to MEN a couple times, had better seats there.

no i've never heard of Champions wanting home advantage, what's that? Froch who'll fight anyone anywhere? I see Emirates as more neutral than Nottingham. I don't imagine 60,000 Groves fans will descend upon it, but I do imagine there'd be 20 odd thousand Froch fans if it was there, and as I said, they wouldn't like it if Froch got battered, and they wouldn't like it if Groves picked-pocketed him.
The Calzaghe-Kessler one just slipped my mind - being as I believe - Calzaghe only fought there once didn't he?? so tell me about these other fights that have taken place there - rather than think of the obvious example I overlooked before telling me how much of a fan I can't be.
And regarding 1991

......you think boxing crowds have moved on that much do you?? I saw it kick off 6 times in Sheffield in a relatively small section of the arena, *jolly Yorkshire folk enjoying an evening of boxing*. Large event boxing crowds contain a high number of bellends, don't get all clever with your

and pretend otherwise.

3 big ones Calzaghe twice and then a 15 fight bill with Williams v Skelton top of the bill.
Would have been more - but bills didn't get paid.

oh I forgot, there was another obvious example. A fight I watched....Joe Calzaghe against Peter Manfredo. So yes, the Millenium stadium has seen its fair share of boxing action. My apologies!

likewise.
1 superfight which I just briefly forgot about, but got snidey remarks over. And then that strange "affair" with Manfredo Jnr and some snoozefest between Williams and Skelton from 7 years ago. Seriously...

Any large event with thousands of (mostly) males watching will have a fair few nob heads there; anyone with a belly full of beer and is starting trouble is an arsehole - not just from Yorkshire. Groves could bring a few this time, I don't think he'll be getting the booing he got before.
(A very good question and answer with Froch and Groves in this weeks Boxing News, the build up is going to be very interesting).

sorry palooka/ people of Yorkshire, was definitely out of order the drunken Yorkshire pricks comment! Meant to delete that. You are completely correct of course! now edited.

Did you know they sometimes have boxing at the Manchester Arena and The York Hall?

He also talked a whole load of utter bullshit, slagged DeGale and Booth off and claimed Froch didn't travel too far away from home to fight. He said Frock was old and wouldn't bring anything different to the ring.

Bruno v Lewis was at the old Arms Park which is where the Millenium is now. Bring it to Cardiff; have Rees Buckland II and Selby; maybe Clev will change to Matchroom and he can make his CW debut? Could be a cracker of a night.

thank fck, I thought you were dead!

Groves loses again if he fights the same fight, it is
he who needs a new gameplan imo.
