Feel the same way. I remember people harping on about him back in the days of the BoxingBanter forum and he just seems to have progressed at a snails pace.

There is ability and talent there but something is missing and I gave up on the guy a while back.

A fighter in Khan's position can lose at world level, and still feature in a big domestic fight next. Not necessarily for five million dollars, but nonetheless its a big domestic fight.

But it doesn't work the other way. Khan could not lose to Brook and then get a world title fight in America.

It would be a case of "okay, Amir lost in a world title fight but this is about who's the best in Britain" and it would sell domestically.

Amir's people will know this and I think it's one of the reasons why things are being done in the order that they are. I am not Amir's biggest fan but I don't think he is afraid of anyone. If he has become shrewd on the business side of things, there is nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of fighters with nothing to lose who would gladly get in the ring with him and attempt to advance their own career whilst more or less ending his. At this point in Amir's career he needs to pick his options carefully. The right choices may lead to another reign at world level, the wrong ones may see him retired by the end of the year.

Brook will soon be in the ring with Porter and finally all the talking will stop, it will be xxxx or get off the pot time. I think he'll beat Porter. Porter looked great winning the title but on his way up he wasn't looking that outstanding.

Yeah, in fairness to Khan, only mere weeks ago he thought he was going to be fighting the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, so agreeing to instead fight Kell Brook is a mighty harsh step down from that. If he were to lose to Kell Brook, then there's no way he'd be fighting Mayweather any time soon.

I hear what people are saying, but losing to Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia and getting past Diaz by the skin of his teeth didn't stop him getting 'considered' for a shot either, did it?

This will all probably be rendered redundant now he is fighting Luis Collazo.

I cannot see how Khan will beat him.

I can't. He is a big, strong welterweight and Khan was all over the place every time he got hit by Diaz, and I can see Collazo walking him down and drilling him in the same fashion as Garcia.

I was thinking about this the other day, and if I was a family member watching Froch box I would be quite relaxed (as relaxed as one can be watching someone you love box at world level) because I know his chin is one of the best I have ever seen, but if I was a Khan family member it would be heart in mouth stuff everytime. He is very vulnerable in the chin department. This to me, is a terrible match up. Collazo must be delighted. All his christmasses have come at once.

I'm a big fan of Khan, but can't understand two things. If the 5m dollar offer is genuine, why hasn't he taken it. And why oh why would he box Collazo unless he is going to be switched on for 36 minutes with his hands up firing out one twos only.

Since Collazo was jobbed by the judges in the Ricky Hatton bout (8 years ago!) he has had 12 fights; he has lost 3 of those by unaminous decision and stopped 6 men. The fight before Ortiz he boxed a man called Alan Sanchez (12-2-1) and won on points over 10. The Ortiz blowout is a very good result but it may flatter to deceive; Collazo has not been so active and BoxRec have him ranked number 21 welterweight; Malignaggi is number 11 welter. I can imagine Amir is more than confident of getting a good result.

Collazo labours when it's a Wednesday Broadway fight - but stick him in a real fight and he comes up with the goods. He was jobbed royally against Berto who was at the top of his roid game.

Khan's chin is so flaky and they are reluctant to pay decent money for sparring partners, will see him come unstuck in spectacular fashion.

At 5'9 Collazo has fought even at light middle and comes in about 160+ on the night.

I was going to say he may be more up for Khan than Alan Sanchez(no disrespect to Alan).

I imagine he will be really up for the bout and he may be disappointed that Khan (5 years younger than him) is still quite a good fighter; if Khan is skimping on sparring partners then he's foolish. I think it'll be a good, hard bout -maybe similar to Maidana, if Khan has settled into the weight then he has the skill and speed to win, if he does it may quieten the Brook thing down a touch - Kell wouldn't box Collazo and it's a mystery to me how Luis is number 21 and Kell is number 6.

Amir can win. He just needs to be cuter.

There is often a drop off in speed after round 3 for Amir. I'd like to see him relax a little more and save some of those bursts so he stretched that 3 rounds to 5...

I think if he can find some defensive footwork and tuck in the chin he can have a reign at the top. And I hope that he does too. He's a very exciting fighter who has taken on many top challenges.

To be fair to Khan, who has a lot of criticism, , rightly or wrong, he had a good spell as champ. Beat some decent names (like how well Malignaggi is doing and Maidana) he arguably beat Peterson and it took a wonder shot from Garcia to take it away from him. Yes, he is chinny but he can certainly compete at world level

You lose against a name in the States and you can bounce back often. You lose against an unknown (in the States) outside of the States, that's more harmful, surely?

Probably easier to watch Froch during the fight, but Khan isn't likely to have any lasting damage, it's hard for him to take a prolonged beating because his chin lets him down, Froch will walk through everything, but at what cost in the future?

Mark my words stylistically if he fights Porter that would be the worse thing for him. I've said on this forum numerous times Kell can not fight inside. And is most comfortable on the outside Porter would absolutely Maul him!

I think you've at least half a point there mickey. Brook looks really good when he's on form; I think it's hard for him to get to the weight and maybe a fair bit of a camp is just to get the excess off. I think Bundu would be a good test and a very good scalp; I think Thurman is a very dangerous fight for Brook and Porter was a very good amateur, is undefeated and took his chance with both hands - I think he'll take some beating and I agree with some other posters that it is presumptious to expect world champions over here to defend against our favourites (in their hometowns); some of the decisions lately may have made it a touch easier to refuse.
Brook found his level in the first Carson fight. If he finds it hard to make welterweight to the extent that it affects his ability to prepare properly for fights he should move up to light-middleweight. Brook never wins a world title.
Good call Robert. :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes:

Well done to Kell for winning, but I thought the fight was a total stinker. One thing that was particularly unimpressive was Kell's inability to judge space and timing when pursuing Porter. He'd catch Porter with a good combo that sent him back, and then jump straight onto Porter's chest, which nullified the attack - felt like he was misjudging the space between them. Given Kell was rangy in comparison, he should have judged the distance better and followed up with combos from the middle distance.

All I know from this fight is that Kell can do enough to grind a win out of a fight. I have no idea where this puts him now with regards to how far he can go. He got the belt, which is a big achievement, obviously, but I dunno.

Also, regards Porter's attacks, was it a case of; 1. Kell's hard as nails, 2. Porter's punches are weak, or 3. Porter's punches just weren't connecting?

Agreed. It defnitely wasn't one for the neutrals.

Hopefully Hearn is able to tempt Khan into a fight with Brook. Amir can make any fight exciting.

I've got egg on my face this morning, I hold my hands up Kell proved me wrong. I didn't even bother to score it cos I literally thought it would be over within 6 rounds. But I give credit to Kell I've given him a lot of stick on this forum because he has fought nobody's his whole career and has a nickname 'special' thought it was unnecessary. Not sure I can watch the fight again to score it accurately cos it was so messy. One thing that surprised me about kell was his ability to take a shot. I still don't think he has an inside game( maybe sour grapes here) but he holds on far too much .

No doubt eddie will match him well and I see him holding the belt for a while

Congrats Kell from your number 1 hater BAP1

It's probably more difficult to do it though in the actual ring during your first go at a title. :TU:
