Wilder will do fine vs Povetkin. He needs fights like that to prove himself. 50/50 but I would pick Wilder. His jab will control the distance, hopefully.
Emphasis on hopefully there if you're a Wilder fan. Despite 34 fights, we still have no idea if Wilder will do "fine" against Povetkin. Stiverne is a harder puncher, but he is also very lazy. Povetkin tends to fight to the level of his opponent, and that has led to some sloppy and out of shape past performances. Povetkin is a LEGIT top five heavyweight. We have no idea if Wilder is.
One thing we have idea is that Wilder will not do fine against Povetkin. He will not even do poorly against Povetkin. He will not do anything at all. And he has a record to prove it.

A lot of people thought Stiverne would crush Wilder too. Wilder doesn't have any reason to not take his mandatory vs Povetkin. Wilder's chin held up fine taking some heavy shots from Stiverne. Wasn't his chin the big question mark before? He wants the big fights like this, and we will probably hear what an over-rated sad sack Povetkin is after they fight. The heavyweight scene needs big fights like this. Boxing needs it, and we will get it.

He wants the big fights, which is why he is fighting Eric Molina? He fought a super lazy puncher in Stiverne. His chin is still a major question.
Don't get me wrong, Wilder may absolutely be the real deal. But he'll have to actually prove it. A win over Povetkin and he probably jumps to #2 in my mind, so it's not like he has a long road in front of him. At the same time, he doesn't have anything behind him to show that he has the goods aside from a win over a lazy fat guy whose best two wins were over another lazy fat guy.

Punch, Look back - I am curious what your prediction was for Stiverne vs Wilder. I'm not saying the kid is the next great heavy champion, but do think he has the skills and punch to make him a major player on the heavy weight scene. I said in another thread that some guys here seem to diss up and comers so hard, it like they don't want them to succeed. The Wilder win over Stiverne was good... at least admit that.

A win over Stiverne is good. A win over Povetkin would mean a whole lot more. A win over Molina will win basically nothing.
How's that for a summary?

I 100% agree with that. I think it is pretty well known that the fight against Molina is possibly a soft touch, but one that will test Wilder's hand that he broke vs Stiverne. Some things I have read say he should have given the hand more time to heal. Not sure about that without knowing the extent of the injury.
IF Wilder gets past Molina, AND fights and beats Povekin, he will be on his way to HW stardom. If Povetkin stops Wilder we will all know he was just a hyped up fighter, and that of course will make many guys (the experts) on this board happy. Personally, I don't care what happens. I just love seeing up and comers in their quest to get to the top. I personally think Wilder has the goods to get there.

I predicted the fight would be a good one; I didn't pick a winner because I admitted I didn't know where Wilder was. But I have predicted both Lucas Browne and Ruslan Chagaev to beat Stiverne in the past. I don't rate Bermane. But all that being said, it was absolutely a good win for Wilder. I never said it wasn't. All I'm saying is that as of right now, Wilder is just a hype job to me. He can change that by beating Povetkin. He would jump to a legit number two in my mind.
I also get what you're saying about people here being negative towards prospects. That's not my mentality. I just want to see good fights. Wilder may well have the goods, but he's been holding them hostage his entire career by putting together one of the worst resumes since Faruq Saleem. Now that he's got a paper title, his first defense is against one of the worst challengers I've ever heard of. I'd really love to give him a break (no pun intended) due to his hand, but his roster of victories shows this crappy match isn't an anomaly.
All I want is to see him and Povetkin fight. The winner will be the winner, and we will know where they both stand.

Franio,
It was a combination of two things.
1 ) Povetkin has good power.
2 ) Perez did not see the punch coming that hurt him.
Povetkin is without a doubt the #2 man after Wlad, and looks a bigger and stronger than he has in the past. Wilder won't take many flush shots from Povetkin.

I think Povetkin needs to get more credit for this victory than he's getting. Perez is a solid heavyweight with what i thought was a great chin but I really thought that was going to be a great fight.
Perez has had some knocks on his preparation and training and heart to really be a professional boxer so some will seem quick to dismiss this as a ho hum type victory but this guy impresses me. Povetkin has great power and chin and will be a tough out for anyone, be it Wilder or Klit. I think Wilder gets a cherry pick fight before they start throwing mandatory bouts at him and unfortunately, he deserves according to current boxing bible which is sad.
There's nothing wrong with more talent on the heavy level. I love it.
