A lot of them ive seen before but even more i hadnt

A few strange choices for me in that list I don't think Ali v Norton 3 was a great or entertain fight myself or hagler vs Leonard
The boxing news did a 100 best fighter special edition mag try and look it up ,I've got it some where .
:TU: yeah i agree some of the fights werent great,i tried to find other lists back before i started working my way through it but that was the best i found

I dont want to be accused of blasphemy but i get bored watching Ali and all the old fights with Basilio,Fullmer,Charles,DeMarco,Saxton etc, even Marciano bores me sometimes

Dont get me wrong their all legends and their achievements are rightly commended and i still watch their fights but i do get bored with the repetitive bustling style

@ hands of stone I'm the same mate maybe it's the old film or the styles of the day but most old black and white fights I find hard to get into . and Ali could be quite lazy as well I remember watching ike Williams vs beau jack and enjoyed it but generally I'm not a massive fan of fights over 40 years old .

It is double hard when they both wear the same colour shorts. I read a couple of books about Charlie Burley and wanted to see him box. There was a bit of a bout on YouTube and I watched but couldn't for the life of me see who was Burley and who was the opponent. I thought it'd be exhibition level stuff, as he was avoided by big names back in the day. I was a little underwhelmed to be honest.

Watched Calzaghe v Eubank again....just for the hell of it really.
I saw it in 'real time' all those years ago and don't really think I fully grasped what a fascinating fight it was back then.

Now what I see is Calzaghe really was a bit special; all that confidence, speed and constant pressure (which Eubank hated) was impressive.

Joe seems really skinny/scrawny and young compared to Eubank - who look likes Godzilla - but he was real class that night and especially with Eubank coming on strong in the later rounds (as he so often did) and testing Joe's mettle.

And I still love that nod and smile from Eubank when he gets dumped on his arse early doors by Joe.....such a simple gesture but which said a lot, lot more. "Ok son, I can see you are not all hype. But I am back on my feet and there's a fight to be won."

Danny Lopez vs Mike Ayala

What an absolute war that was nip and tuck all the way until Lopez pulled away near the end, what a gutsy performance from Ayala though

But WTF happened with the 2nd KD Lopez scored in the 11th? Little Red had already put Mike down in the 7th with a cracking straight right and then put him down with a left in the 11th when the ref stopped it believing Ayala failed to make the count, now i knew beforehand that this was a 15th round KO win for Danny so im wondering what the hells going on especially when everyones in the ring celebrating

Only then its ruled the ref has misheard the timekeeper, the ring is cleared and the fight resumes, ive never seen or heard of anything like that in my lifetime of watching fights, then of course the fight resumes and Lopez KO's Ayala in the last round

Epic fight that was neck and neck for the most part but what a bizzare 11th round

Ayala fights brilliantly from the ropes; Barry, did you know that Ayala had injected heroin before the bout? Incredible performance when you take into account he's off his head.

:o Seriously,i never knew that Simon, that was first time id seen Ayala and yes i thought he boxed well off the ropes because he was backed up against them for long spells yet it was a competitive fight,i cant believe Mike was shooting heroin before a performance like that,i'll have a look at Ayala's wiki :TU:

It may be a boxing myth, Barry - I've read an interview where Ayala admits to dabbling but not using just before the bout. He beat Hearns as an amateur!

On the other hand, his ability to absorb punishment and bounce back was increased.

I watched the Fabulous Roberto Duran vs Ray Leonard 1st fight the other day...what a joy. The atmosphere of that fight was just incredible. Duran was the true definition of machismo , just no nonsense fighting. Leonard was very brave and tough but was outfought. Close fight though, but I think Duran's 'crotch grabbing' gesture toward Wilfredo Benitez ringside was the clincher in the decision :-)

Cracking HW contest which was fought mosty at close quarters, both men gave and took a lot a lot of bodyshots, lots of great work downstairs especially conidering their Heavyweights, some nice work upstairs too,a lot of clever infighting

Barry McGuigan vs Steve Cruz

Unbelievable to think McGuigan was able to fight at that pace for 15 rounds in that heat,id always read it was the heat that beat him that day,ive never seen the sun shine so bright at a fight, especially early on it must have been pure hell but TBF McGuigan was still fighting at a frantic pace right up until the last round, the 2 KD's Cruz scored in the last round were crucial but if Barry hadnt got docked for the low blow in the 12th he wouldve retained his title with a draw

Its a shame Cruz never came over to UK/Ireland for a rematch im convinced McGuigan wouldve got revenge

:TU: Definitely a good fight and over time we've forget that Barry actually went down with all guns blazing....but Eastwood got his fighter badly mugged that day and I don't think the relationship between them ever recovered.

Cruz should have really been tackled when the temperature plummets in Nevada at night and Barry was able to box without getting heatstroke. I still contend that the outcome would have very different if that crucial piece of timing had been dealt with.

I watched the two fight series of Carlos Palomino vs Armando Muniz. What great battles ; and lovely commentary by the one and only Arthur Mercante.
