I don't think he's ever going to have the confidence again.

Putting him back in with Thompson after the first defeat, was a huge mistake, and has ruined him.

Would love to see him in the next prizefighter. C level heavyweights have always been cannon fodder for price and make him look like a world heater. It worked for audley twice and price is better than him.

Is he - based on what?

Audley has a better resume overall.

Prizefighter is about the only way I see Price making money.

Based on the fact he stopped him in 1.

Audley was well and truly past it by then.

Thing is there is big money in the division. And a few well timed right hands might earn David real money.

Can he really turn away from that?

Once he leaves the sport it's over for him. I'd love to see him have enough success to be able to have one last decent pay day.

Still won a PF after Price flattened him though.

Absolutely agree. He needs to learn how to jab. If he only had a jab he will be way, way better. Chin you can not change but jab you can and should.
Also at this point, he have to have a good match maker and maybe promoter who will care for Price.
keirw wrote:If he is willing to change trainer and learn how to jab properly and to pace himself over twelve rounds he may get himself back into contention for another EBU shot in 12-18 months time.
But if he isn't willing to make the necessary changes, he will have to accept that he is domestic level.

After all that's happened over the past few years, I wouldn't be surprised if he is sick of the sport and knocks it on the head and looks for other forms of income.

He's to powerful to be a gatekeeper /journeyman and too vulnerable to progress much further than he has done. It's hard to see where he goes next.

If a former top amateur international including being an Olympic medalist does not know how to jab after 6 years as a full time pro then its time to try something else.

Excactly!!

It's not that he doesn't know how to throw a jab correctly, - he's just too tentative to throw it.

I hate to say it, but he's just not cut out for the pro game. He would always have come unstuck along the way, but the two back to back defeats were a terrible bit of matchmaking, he should never have been allowed to face the same guy straight after - he could have made some decent money though would never have made it past domestic level, - but that really finished his career, the second devastating KO loss, destroyed what little confidence he had.

I reckon the Sauerland's will be getting more fight offers than ever for Price, not less.

One or two steady wins and he'll be back for another decent fight, probably another KO loss but a decent payday.

Steady wins against who though?

What level of people is he now actually capable of beating - and is the money they will bring worth it. He's going to be fighting for peanuts at that level.

Straight after the loss one of the Sauerland's said that they have a path for him to get back to the level he wants to be at.

I think he mentioned that he would put him against people who "arent too offensive" if my memory is correct.

I think he needs to fight in England to generate any kind of gate receipts, so I dont know how a future relationship with the Sauerland's will work.

Well, those will be exciting to watch.

Watching Price paw with the jab at some fat plodding punching bag. I can really see huge ticket sales for that kind of spectacle.

Must be said though, they did put him in with a guy last time out who was going to give him serious problems.

A boxer needs to be in competitive bouts to earn well and to improve don't they?

Putting Price in with defensive minded opponents will contribute to either goal, its a blatant admission that David can dish it but can't take it - a bully in other words.

Terry Dooley wrote:He needs to blitz a decent opponent in a do or die performance IMO. I agree about his jab, it looks like he’s wary of getting countered over it.
Thing is, he's far more likely to get hit like that, as he's not actually offering much offence of his own. Whilst he may not get countered off a pawing jab, his lack of offence, invites his opponent to let their hands go.

Yes, unless he is banging people out spectacularly, how on earth is he going to earn any money.

I think the Saurelands are going to feed him to their better prospects, until there's nothing left. It seems they did that to me In his last fight, the guy who beat him was unbeaten and going places, Price may not have realised, - but he was actually the opponent in there.

Any bum of the month for a couple of comeback fights.

Barring a couple of massive right-hands, Price is there for all to see. He could still face Chisora, Fury, Joshua, Whyte and even Haye(for a comeback) even if he'd be underdog in all of them.

It's heavyweight boxing and boxing loves a loser, and to add - boxing loves seeing a heavyweight getting KO'd the way Price seems to.

Yes, but the trouble is - it doesn't appear to take a massive right hand to put him over these days.

I meant barring Prices right hand, James. Price has reached his level right now, the only thing that will drive him beyond, is a massive right hand from him, on someone he is supposed to lose to.

It is some ask, I agree but that power is still something that most can only ever dream about.

Apparantly Thompson failed a drug test after his rematch with Price and has been banned by the BBBC,who knows how that wouldve affected Tony when he was hurt and nearly out

I liked him too
