What's with the hate for Price and Harrison? Sure their pro careers went badly, but that doesn't seem like any reason to hate them. They both came across as okay guys to me.SFW wrote:AJ had an injured Whyte in front of him, got extended further than ever ( first opponent with even the slightest pulse) got hurt for the first time, and showed he has no idea how to pace himself. What Whyte could have done healthy in that fight is a good question.
All those muscles, your damn right AJ is worried about 12 rounds. There's a seat for him next to Fraudley and Price on the Wank Wagon if he isn't ready for 12 hard rounds. Hopefully we'll get to see that against Martin. It would boost confidence all around for Joshua and us.
Both of these guys are big and dangerous, only a fool would think otherwise.

Re: Charles Martin v Anthony Joshua
An elite technician Fury is not. I'd say Joshua has far better fundamentals. Fury's greatest asset is that he is quite mobile for a man of his size, and loose limbed, which makes him an unusual opponent. However, Joshua's punches are delivered far better and with much better balance. Joshua's size would make Fury very Wary indeed, he'd be in or close to the danger Zone whenever he was in front of Joshua, and Anthony isn't a reluctant dragon like Wlad, who requires people to stand stock still in front of him.Tarkus wrote:Concussive power plus very solid fundamentals, size and speed. He is extremely dangerous HW. Perhaps not on the level of Fury just yet, because Fury is an elite technician. But Martin? Please give me a break.diddy wrote:This Starboxer seems have an agenda out for Joshua. As a completely unbiased observor I'd call him the most dangerous guy in the entire division. Seems to have concussive power.
I'd make Fury only a slight favourite if they met tomorrow, and that's because of Fury's proven stamina and fight experience, but I think Joshua would be capable of flattening him before it got to the point where that experience told.
Re: Charles Martin v Anthony Joshua
Didn't Whyte also have a 2 or 3 yr layoff? Martin is no joke, a decently skilled southpaw, with power in both hands. I think THIS is a pick-em fight.Starboxer wrote:diddy wrote:Martin doesnt strike me as being any better than Whyte. If those 2 were to fight I would call it a pick em fight.
Whyte leads with his face , Martin has a higher fight iq
Re: Charles Martin v Anthony Joshua
It's not just his speed, one of his biggest assets is making his opponents turn.

Also, much of what success Whyte got was from beating AJ to the jab, something the much larger and fitter Fury would find easier, and this is before looking at his stance switching.
Edit: Fury's upper body movement is also pretty good

Just because of his willingness to fight a top level opponent in his first defense of his belt. That along his goofy personality.SNG wrote:Why does that make you support Martin over Joshua?Baby Face Finster wrote:I will be rooting for Martin simply because he has decided to test himself and not go down the easy route of taking on stiffs, but I doubt he will win.

Re: Charles Martin v Anthony Joshua
He's not going to be regarded as such by half on here if he wins, he'll be untested/green/no chin etc Joshua needs plaudits too for taking on Martin in his fifteenth fight, though they've picked him for a reason, they expect Martin to get knocked over.Baby Face Finster wrote:Just because of his willingness to fight a top level opponent in his first defense of his belt. Re: Charles Martin v Anthony Joshua
So what about tactics for this fight?
I think AJ will try and get close and bomb him out of there from round one, and he'd be better ending it sooner, Martin has way more later round experience. and I'm not convinced he'd be able to win fighting slower.
I don't know much about how Martin fights, but my rather ill informed opinion of what he should try is stay on his toes, and at range, mostly jabbing and not quite allowing him to rest until he's tired, say around round 8. Edit: He should probably try and get some decent body shots in mind you, I think that's a big part of what gassed him.
What do you guys think?

your right, that was harsh. I'm sure their decent guys, just didn't live up to the hype. Hopefully Joshua succeeds where they failed.BitPlayer wrote:What's with the hate for Price and Harrison? Martin can not box with Joshua. he might have a chance if he puts everything on the line and tries to take Joshua out early, he does have power and size.BitPlayer wrote:So what about tactics for this fight?

I think both boxers will try to box box box first couple of rounds before testing reach others chin.BitPlayer wrote:So what about tactics for this fight?

But neither fighter has faced anyone with the potential of the other. So many unknown quantities in this fight which I love. No idea of the outcome.
Re: Charles Martin v Anthony Joshua
I'm not a fan of Price really, but think at least 2 of the 3 KO losses should be erased, due to his opponents failing drug tests. They should at least be NC, and not losses.SFW wrote:your right, that was harsh. I'm sure their decent guys, just didn't live up to the hype. You are right Joshua is a far superior boxer
Martin is looking to take the fight in to the late rounds , sure Martin will be looking for an early ko he has the power but his game plan will be to clinch in close lean on Joshua and slowly wear him down
Joshua will win the first 5 rounds in my view but if martin is smarter than whyte and I am sure he is he will have taken minimal damage and. By round 6 or 7 Joshua will be gassing
Martin has to be clever it would take someone very special like George foreman to trade with monster like Joshua

I don't think martin is significantly stronger or bigger than Joshua if at all so i don't think clinching necessarily in martin's favour.

trade and go toe to toe
Run
Or clinch
With the right technique clinching wears a fighter down especially someone built like Joshua
If Martin trades he will be destroyed

And still.

Its a interesting fight
Joshua is like Nigel benn before he was proven , a massive draw that got drowned
