Re: Liam Smith (c) vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez - September 17th 2016

Really want Liam to win this but i think he'll just be covering up the whole fight. I've got Canelo winning this 8 rounds to 4 UD
I think it's a little harsh to say he's only good because of his size relative to his opponents. He has good counter punching ability and his combination punching is very good.freddydoesdallas wrote:Is Canelo really that good against people the same size as him?
I don't think Smith will win, because he's never going to get the decision, but i don't think he's going to be blasted away in a couple of rounds. He's a genuine LMW, has decent foundations and should be able to manage himself in the ring.
Wide points loss for me, possibly 10/2, 9/3
I think you're being slightly generous to Alvarez there. He has built his career on catchweights and not actually bothering to make weight so i think it's safe to say that his team have concerns about his ability to face opponents at the full weight.lefty wrote:I think it's a little harsh to say he's only good because of his size relative to his opponents. You have to remember aswell that he's beaten Trout, Lara, Angulo, Kirkland and Cotto (I think Size was more important in the last fight mentioned)
His experience of top level competition generally including fighting Mayweather is so superior to Smith it's unreal.

I'm not doubting that he's faced better opposition than Smith, there's no competition there. It's whether or not his stock is artificially increased by constantly facing blown up fighters or forcing them into silly weight categories. I say force purposefully as his team have the financial clout to do this
I'm with you on that. I don't think he'll come in on weight either. The ones you all mention though were still above the 154 limit. If it's no big deal then he should have stuck to 154, as he keeps moving it there must be a reason.TheLeprechaun wrote:freddydoesdallas wrote:I think you're being slightly generous to Alvarez there. He fought most of those guys at their natural weights to be honest. 155 for Cotto was fair since they had to be above 154. Kirkland, Lara, Khan and Angulo were at 155.
I honestly think he's coming in at 155 for this one. Just has to throw Smith another 300-400k which is pennies to Canelo. As if Gallagher is going to walk away from a nice cut of that money.

I think he wants to make 154 for political reasons, if he can't make 154 like he hasn't for a few years now, then there's simply no hiding from the fact he's a full on Middleweight and it gives ground away to GGG in the negotiations.
I've got a feeling Canelo might end up as weight drained as he was for Floyd by making 154 and that will give Smith a real chance.
Can Canelo have taken an awful lot away from the Mayweather fight? My recollection is he got slapped about more than most in that fight.lefty wrote:I think it's a little harsh to say he's only good because of his size relative to his opponents. Funnily enough, I was thinking the same thing. When's the weigh-in?freddydoesdallas wrote:I like that train of thought RickyRicky_ wrote:TheLeprechaun wrote:

He's never faced anyone who can box as well as Canelo either, mate.brilo33 wrote:going saul in 5 rounds , liam has never faced such a puncher
