I get what you mean but it could end up with fighters going for world titles with absurdly few rounds fought, and having never fought in later rounds.Horse wrote:By fighting better opponents?BitPlayer wrote:Oh noes, how else will I be bored without onesided boxing matches?
The only real issue is for up and coming fighters since it'd be harder for them to go the distance, but it's probably fixable.

Pride? Yeah he's full of pride lay on a bed full of tubes and people cleaning piss off hm.Finn wrote:He was defending himself and throwing punches back and it wasn't until the late rounds that it was obvious he had no chance of turning it, at that point he may as well keep his pride and see out the fight. It wasn't like for example when Eubank was hitting Chudinov with 28 unanswered shots in the 11 th round or what ever. Gutkneght was never in any serious trouble imo.Horse wrote:Because he was getting battered.Finn wrote:so why would the corner pull him out when he can just dig in and finish the fight?
What an embarrassing stance.
A 'proper man' is a trainer who knows his man is beat and saves him from himself.

Exactly, it's understandable a lot of fighter will not quit, that's one of the things the corner needs to be there for.fightfaninfrance wrote:Pride? How much good are all of those one-sided rounds going to do them anyway?BitPlayer wrote:I get what you mean but it could end up with fighters going for world titles with absurdly few rounds fought, and having never fought in later rounds.
It really shouldn't be too difficult to find a competitive opponent or two for them to fight before they get a world title shot.
Re: Gutknecht rushed to hospital, needed resusitating
Are you even a boxing fan? You are massively over exaggerating the way gutknect was losing. Do you want me to start naming fights where the fighter actually turned a one sided fight around? You know the fights that have made boxing the sport it is?Horse wrote:He was getting his head kicked in.Finn wrote:So what you are saying that is if a fighter is losing and doesn't look like they can win they should be pulled out of a fight, even if they are defending themselves and throwing punches?
Yes, he should have been pulled out and so should others in that situation.
That would hardly be the end of the world.Finn wrote:Let's scrap all fights like calzaghe v Lacey, froch v ward, haye v klitschko (or in fact 90% of klitschko fights), mayweather v canelo (actually again nearly all mayweather fights) part way through because it's a landslide on the cards and the other fighter doesn't look like they can win.
Why waste people's time with one-sided garbage?
I hate seeing losers 'see out' a fight.Finn wrote:Gutknect hadn't even been dropped and wasn't out on his legs - yes a stoppage would have been justified but equally letting the fighter finish was justified. It's only because on this occasion there were issues after we are even debating this otherwise everyone would have been happy that gutknect saw out the fight.
Why are people always going on about how they hope some chump can manage to survive until the end?
Just wave the fight off and add a few years to their lives.

Name them if you want, but overall I think boxing would be better if one-sided, boring fights were waved off a lot quicker.Finn wrote:You are massively over exaggerating the way gutknect was losing. Chavez v Taylor is a weird one, because although Taylor was winning, he was getting busted up throughout the fight, which is what led to his downfall. He was winning on points, but Chavez was hurting him bad.Finn wrote:Chavez v TaylorHorse wrote:No, I'm not a boxing fan. It should be banned.Finn wrote:Are you even a boxing fan?

Haye Thomson is a great example because you have an old seemingly shopworn fighter getting clubbed around the ring by a big puncher and looking wobbly and hurt on more than a few occasions. But I think because the fight was so short it doesn't really quality. Gutknecht had no chance, wasn't winning rounds, was away from home. You'd have to look at malinaggi vs Hatton as a good example. He was getting beat and had no chance to win. He definitely could have gone the distance. The stoppage was a great move in that one.
Cotto vs Pac-Man is another one. Cotto could have seen it out but the stoppage was the right move. He wasn't really getting badly hurt but was getting beat.
I don't think you'd find anyone who thinks that Cotto or malinaggi could have won those fights if they weren't stopped.

It's a fine line between spoling a fight and saving a fighter from needless punishment.TheLeprechaun wrote:Haye Thomson is a great example because you have an old seemingly shopworn fighter getting clubbed around the ring by a big puncher and looking wobbly and hurt on more than a few occasions. I don't think it is, at a certain point.
Fights where the guy is taking punishment and looks like he is feeling the shots and literally won't be winning the fight bar his opponent breaking down.
It becomes common sense at a certain point.
Briggs Vitali was another that fits.

Though still being in a coma isn't a good thing, do we know anything about his condition? Like if it is a 'safety first induced coma', or a 'he isn't going to be waking up soon coma'

It's bad because they want you in a coma for a couple of weeks at the absolute most. His body will start breaking down because it isn't being used. Look at magomed. Went in to hospital as a heavyweight, came out of the coma as a welterweight

Seems he is out if the coma, but things are bad.
Groves is the kind of puncher that can cause injuries. Single shot knockout artists scramble you, then you recover.
The guy with enough power to give you a beatdown is the type which will have long term effects.
I think Spinks said something on the lines he would rather have got blasted by Tyson, rather than get sustained punishment from Evander.
Thoughts with him and his family.
