Poor GGG performance, but thought he still won. Thought Chocolatito won as well, but barely. Shitty to get a blemish on your record with a winning performance.

Thought Jacobs edged it.

For the record, I think GGG still beats Canelo, but I'm less convinced he stops him. Jacobs would beat Canelo too IMO.

Props to Kalan for picking GGG by decision.

Does anyone have CompuBox numbers for the fight?

Jacobs not excellent but GGG has a problem where he needs to set his feet before he throws. Also Jacobs has much faster hands. But GGG never let down and continued to press. Good ebb and flow to the fight where it went back and forth. But GGG still took the fight and beat him in the 12th.

HBO keeps bringing up the Pirog loss, but he was a completely different fighter to GGG, less of a puncher but constantly fought from bizarre angles. GGG lacked creativity and activity tonight, something Pirog had in abundance.

Pirog was slicker.

Exactly. Jacobs won sh!t. We are all just surprised that it was close, but GGG still won confidently based on punch counts, being an aggressor and the KD. Even the swelled Danny's eye showed who inflicted more damage.

I guess he underestimated Pirog while he and his corner had the utmost respect for GGG's boxing.

I doubt they underestimated him. I remember Jacobs saying he had watched a lot of tape before the Pirog fight. Pirog was very unorthodox though.

Nah. Pirog's style overwhelmed him. GGG fights a more predictable pattern.

Good post.

Typically if a dominant puncher doesn't drop his opponent every round some people tend to lean towards the other guy. It's not right, but it happens. If you check the poll thread only one person picked GGG by decision...yours truly. I think Tanzio also picked it in the wager thread. When your mind is completely made up that a guy is going to win by knockout it can tarnish your view if the opponent does better than you expected. But doing better and winning are not always the same thing.

Curious how the first 2 rounds were scored by judges.
HBO gave them to Jacobs. But didn't see either fighter doing much to earn them decisively

With fight up for grabs GGG took the 12th and Jacobs didn't seem like he had much left

Styles make fights. And Jacobs has style that wasn't flattering to golovkin

I saw 114-113 at worst for golovkin. But had him 115-112 on my card

He didnt though

Great fight by Jacobs, but GGG's jab took it. A lot of moaners not scoring it apparently, and instead giving bonus points for flashy but largely inaccurate flurries.

I cant see at all how Jacobs won the first....he did pretty much nothing and was getting tagged by jabs.

Absolutely not. Ducking some of opponent's punches and landing on his arms doesn't win fights.

On the flipside Golovkin fans can be swayed by him coming forward as usual, even when it was ineffective aggression.

True. And yet throwing more, landing more, and scoring a knockdown would most likely remove "ineffective aggression" from the equation.
