You must not watch many American cards.boxingknockout wrote:That's a sh1t undercardSaadOffTheDeck wrote:I expect a strong undercard, jack/cleverly, Davis/farmer and something else solid.

I think Floyd might give him a walk around, either that or Mcregor gets DQ'd for a round house to the canisterTarkus wrote:The only way KO doesn't happen is if its a fix and Floyd agreed to carry Conor for 12 rounds.
Depends on what happens but there's a realistic chance that even to the most casual of fan he'll look absolutely clueless fairly quickly and be utterly outclassed after three or four rounds. It's not a good look.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Nothing could possibly put a dent in McGregor's ego. Certainly not this, losing to one of the greatest Boxers of all time in your pro debut? I'd think anyone could shrug that off easily enough.
In fairness there are figths on boxrec of a boxer against a wrestler. I know Archie Moore has 1 or 2.Tuan_Jim wrote:This fight is Mike Tyson/Peter McNeeley bad. People have so little knowledge of it they think a drunken Irish wrassler can punch out an elite pro.
I find it profoundly depressing that it is being licensed. There was a time, not all that long ago, when this would have been an exhibition. When an old fat Muhammad Ali did 10 rounds with Lyle Alzado, it was strictly tongue in cheek, and very very unofficial. This is being sold to the public as a serious fight. I suppose they'll get what they deserve.
You'll do well to find an example of such a pairing that was sold to the public with a straight face.BitPlayer wrote:In fairness there are figths on boxrec of a boxer against a wrestler. If Floyd wins every minute of every round I can't see a rematch. The novelty will have passed and it's a far harder sell without the what if intrigue that applies here in the eyes of some.mickeyb wrote:"Oi went twelve rounds with the greatest of all toime, in muy ferst foight! And then they do it all again in 6 months for even sillier money. If I can see that scenario play out, do you think Money Mayweather hasn't? Maybe just me being cynical, but I would be deeply unsurprised if it happened.

I don't know those events Mr Mesh, but my own fear about this event is that so many non boxing fans bought the Mayweather Pacquiao PPV and it was a f*cking dud in terms of general excitement. It really hurt the sport. I still have people mention it to me.gilgamesh wrote:I know there are people that want to write off this fight and say it's an embarrassment
How is it embarrassing for the sport of Boxing that a retired Boxer is about to come out of retirement and easily beat a 2 weight division World Champion in UFC in his athletic prime? This fight is for the "UFC Champions can kick anybody's ass" crowd, and anybody else that wants to watch just for the hell of it when Mayweather easily handles this guy.
It doesn't hurt the sport, doesn't help it either...it's just an event. The kind of event that isn't done that often.
In a way it evokes the early days of UFC. Boxer vs UFC Champion what's gonna happen?
Remember UFC 1? UFC 2?
Tae Kwon Do vs Wrestler...What's gonna happen?
Sumo vs Jiu Jitsu...What's gonna happen?
Kickboxing vs Sambo...What's gonna happen?
In a way this is reminiscent of that...I mean not for us. We all know what's gonna happen...but that's the way this event feels to the masses. Don't take it away from the poor schlubs, just sit back, crack open a beer, invite over all the MMA guys you know and see if you can make a friendly bet with 'em that Floyd wins.
It's just a one off event guys. The sky's not falling here. If it ain't your cup of tea don't buy it. Personally though I'm 100% confident in Floyd's victory as I'm sure most of us are, I can see the appeal of the fight to the general public. So I'm fine with both guys taking it, and who can blame them? Would you turn down the money on the table here if you were either guy?
