ALSO... I used to be in the rasslin' business... I know a fake fight from a real one when I see it... Wepner-Andre was indeed a fake... Besides I also asked Wepner about his "fight" with Inoki and he said it was also fake, as it ended with a cartwheel kick and a Boston crab leg lock.
If Wepner had any kind of bout with Inoki it wasn't a globally publicized big money fight like Inoki-Ali... It would be a pro wrestling canard as usual and Inoki would be the predetermined winner... But the fact remains that Inoki never faced a boxer in his LIFE before training camp for Ali -- but Ali couldn't get a single significant punch on Inoki in 45 minutes of Inoki kicking the sh!t out of Ali ... putting him in a hospital with broken blood vessels and blood clots.

Ali's ineffectiveness against Inoki is something you guys just totally ignore... Inoki was no Chamberlain as a powerful and dominant athlete and in the first real fight of his life he kicked the bejabbers out of Muhammad Ali :bag: :OhYes:  :yay: :box: :bag: :box:    :D

The newspaper article at the beginning of this thread PROVES Wilt was a willing partner in any Chamberlain-Ali Fight where the prize for the winner of said fight was The Heavyweight Championship of the World... "O'Connell said the 34-year-old Chamberlain had signed an agreement last February that he would fight Ali, but that agreement was based on the assumption Ali would beat Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier. Frazier won a unanimous decision last March."

There is no evidence Ali ever signed that same contract. Ali always claimed that there was plenty of time to sign to fight Chamberlain later, a tactic Chamberlain warned the lawyers about. Wilt told them he'd been through his innings with Ali in 1967 as was given the run around for months -- until it was painfully obvious that Ali had no intention of ever stepping into a boxing ring with Wilt Chamberlain. The fact is Ali was scared to death of Chamberlain.

Ali was scared of Inoki too.. Ali threatened to pull out of the Inoki fight unless the contract was complete rewritten to disallow wrestling or throws. Clinching was allowed, but would be broken up immediately by Ali's hand selected referee. Inoki was not even allowed to punch Ali with his bare fists. The only thing Inoki could do was kick Ali in the back of the legs -- and that's how he easily beat Ali very badly and hospitalized the poor guy.

Actually Kalan, Chamberlain's reach was 'only' 92".

Here is a link to a video of his reach being measured: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PcEqa2l5eE

I thought I'd mention it because in another thread I gave Valuev's reach as 86", you called me a liar and corrected it to 85" (what's an inch amongst friends).
So now it's my turn to correct you.

The proof that Chamberlain signed a contract to fight Ali is in the newspaper article that starts this thread " "O'Connell said the 34-year-old Chamberlain had signed an agreement last February that he would fight Ali, but that agreement was based on the assumption Ali would beat Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier. Frazier won a unanimous decision last March." ... Obviously Chamberlain wanted the Heavyweight Title.

Then the opening salvo of the following video states... "I have in my possession a signed contract for [Wilt Chamberlain] to fight Muhammad Ali"

It was the negotiated contract a lawyer was holding for Chamberlain. Wilt produced a pen for Ali to sign... As usual, Ali said "Don't rush things. Hold your pen." It was becoming obvious Ali would never legally bind himself to fight Wilt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF57P1uUG0s

Cus D'Amato measured Wilt's reach at 101"... That is the reach that was reported in Ring Magazine in their article on Chamberlain... On this TV report they measured Wilt's reach very quickly and casually.. The way Cus did it was chest against a wall and stretching your arms as far as you can.. and they didn't measure knuckle to knuckle but finger tip to finger tip.

If Wilt's reach were only 92" that is still longer than any boxer I've heard of in recorded history... and 14" longer than Ali's... Now I know they'll change John Rankin who had one fight from an unknown reach to a 93" reach just to say I'm wrong.

But it doesn't matter if somebody had a longer reach or was bigger or taller than Wilt.. There were much bigger and taller guys in the NBA than Wilt.. Probably even guys with longer arms. They weren't good athletes and didn't set any records. They couldn't run the floor well and had no speed. They had no eye for shooting or quickness and cleverness for maneuvering. They had no timing and precision for passing well. They were just big galoots. And only one in 73 of those big galoots ever made it to the NBA and 90% of THOSE were still no good. Very few big guys are great athletes. They can't play.

Many boxers do extend curved fingers when they jab or lash with fingers when they upper-jab... Most referee's can't pick up on it.

How about "A reliable source said" and then name him ... The newspaper didn't quote an anonymous lawyer. They quoted a person in the know by name.

So no proof then

You wouldn't ever accept anything like that as PROOF if it was offered in support of an argument you were opposing.

So you are saying Wilt was gay? I suppose it makes sense what with the no kids, ludicrous sexual boasts and a heartbroken ex boyfriend trolling boxing forums 20 years after he died.

Wilt was straight according to all his Hollywood starlet girlfriends like Kim Novak and Raquel Welsh... You're the gay guy.

If Chamberlain wanted to be treated serious he would've got his boxers licence, turned pro and had some fights. The fact he didn't shows it for what is was, a publicity stunt.

He did get a boxing license. He needed one to fight Ali. But what suicidal maniac would get into a ring with Wilt Chamberlain and fight him???

It had to be the World Heavyweight Champion because nobody else could possibly be a match for him... Ali told Wilt on national TV "I accept your challenge. As soon as I finish with a few more contenders, IF I beat them.." Ali always seemed to have another excuse for putting the signing off.

Why are you obsessed with who might be gay and the gay lifestyle??? ... Get over to the Off Topic forum.

This thread is all about a widely publicized fight that never happened -- all because Ali was smart enough not to sign a contract to venture into a ring with the world's greatest athlete... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF57P1uUG0s

Or alternatively you can type in "Wilt challenges Ali" on YouTube and it's the 1st one that pops up.
