Miguel Cotto floored Joshua Clottey solidly with a jab.. Clottey had a great chin.. If a punch surprises you and hits a nerve, you can drop.. Robert Guerrero had a real good chin and Joel Casamayor floored him with a jab.. If a jab landed perfectly with perfect timing that can happen to anybody..

I just checked... Rahman hit Tua after the bell, so it was not an official knockdown.

Unofficially

It happened just ever so slightly after the bell in their 2nd bout. I always thought that was funny though the way Rahman pointed like "Look at him, he went down!"

Rock got robbed bad in that fight.

He was fat as hell that night, but he still deserved the nod over Tua. I had it 116-112 as I recall.

Never saw their 1st fight.

He got robbed worse in the first fight when they were both in shape. He won every round until tua caught him after the bell. It wasn't intentional, but it was late.

Tua was knocked down officially by Monte Barrett.

I wasn't implying he didn't have a good chin, he early did. Just amusing that a woefully out of shape rock and a shot Monte Barrett we're the guys to floor him.

Yeah I knew of the fight, just never have watched it.

I remember his line with Larry Merchant following the 2nd fight "Hell I've beat the man twice, and I still ain't got no wins on my record"

Pretty sure the second fight was on Showtime, but Rahman definitely owned him. He got robbed against toney too.

It wasn't. It was on HBO. It was the undercard of Hopkins vs Morrade Hakkar. (I even remember the Commentary crew saying THIS was the Main Event as far as most Boxing fans were concerned)

Boxing fights and dates can become a blur to me, but I never get stumped on my formative years as a Boxing fan. Years 2002 thru 2005 I usually know the exact date of fights.

And yes I thought he beat Toney as well.

Yeah definitely.

Rahman vs Tua was much more interesting on paper than it turned out to be in the ring. Fight sucked. B-Hop vs Hakkar was an absolute joke. Hakkar's gotta be one of the very worst #1 Alphabet contenders I've ever seen.

Rahman claimed he couldn't see in the first Toney fight -- when clearly there was no obstruction to his vision. Other boxers who begged out of fights, claiming they couldn't see from very tiny cuts or bungs on an eye -- were Nate Campbell and Devon Alexander, both against Tim Bradley -- and Luis Collazo against Keith Thurman after a round where he took a couple hard rights.. Collazo's eye was slightly worse then Rahman's, Alexander's, or Campbell's, but his corner was very upset with him for quitting. Campbell and Rahman were very clever. They knew the fight hadn't gone enough rounds to render a decision.

Kermit Cintron tried to pull that same fast one in his Paul Williams fight... Cintron claimed he hurt his neck and nobody believed him.. He pretty much took a running dive out of the ring and fell down and claimed an injury.. He certainly moved his head to look when they brought in a stretcher and made Cintron lay down on it.. They strapped the faker's body down solid to it and strapped his head down solid.. "Stop moving your head Kermit! We have to strap it down." What Cintron forgot was that in California, if the 4th round opening bell sounds they go to the scorecards and render a decision.. As they carried Kermit the Killer out of the arena on the stretcher they rendered the decision for Williams.. Cintron pounded his fists in frustration.

Chuvalo was stopped early by Frazier and Foreman, so I don't think his resistance was among the best.. It was good...not fabulous.
Haye had valuev dancing when they fought. Sure Haye was a big puncher, but i always consider haye a murderous puncher at cruiser, big puncher at heavy but in all time conversations, his power isn't in the conversation.
It sure as Hell is... Haye is a devastating puncher. Chisora had never been stopped among many others he smashed out... Haye's KO ratio is way ahead of somebody like Shavers who fought tons of bums.. Shavers would swing as big as he could and still couldn't get some 3rd rate Heavyweights like Stallings out.

NOPE!!! ... Haye was definitely one of the best punchers ever -- and bigger than Shavers for one thing... He was a solid 217 when he made Valuev do his dance.

He wasn't sleepwalking. If he were unconscious Haye would have finished him. He was alert but couldn't find his legs for a sec, hence the clumsy dance.

certainly Ali

but also, for me, the way a peak Larry Holmes was able to shake off the effects of brutal punches by Shavers, Snipes and Weaver....and come back ...sometimes in the very same round...is my pick.

Also check out the second Joe Louis V Jersey Joe Walcott fight. Louis takes at least one punch during his legendary final winning barrage that would have felled a tree.

Valuev was always unconscious. No human has ever done anything terrible enough to be forced to watch Valuev box. Either Haye had a glass jaw or he thought he did. No one should be scared of Valuev except the kids he now entertains.

If it's so damned easy why didn't you go out there and make as many millions as Haye did? ... He did enough to win the title in Valuev's back yard.

Valuev knocked good boxers like Monte Barrett out -- not because he was skilled.. He was over 7 feet tall, weighed 330, and could punch.. He was 50-1

Louis had no fear of Walcott's power.. Walcott had a 45% KO ratio. Walcott couldn't even get Johnny Allen out -- at 11-14-1 Allen lost more fights than he won and had been knocked out 4 times already... Walcott was making his 40th pro fight but lost a decision to Allen.

Louis was old and easy to tag.. Walcott got him with 2 nice left hooks as they traded shots.. They rocked Louis that it.. Louis hit back much harder and knocked Walcott out for one of his several KO defeats.. Not the strongest chin there either.

Schmeling and Marciano were much better punchers than Walcott.. When they hit Louis good he was KO'd... Louis was knocked down a dozen times and he was never noted for having a great chin... Some even thought him a bit chinny.

Dempsey did have a good chin... He didn't have a stellar defense and absorbed some massive shots.

Fought a generation and a half of top heavies.

Only down 3 times legitimately and 2 of those knockdowns were when he was young and didn't have the balance he developed with time.

Chuvalo, though, was incredible. So he was stopped by Frazier and Foreman. So? He never went down in either fight and was hit with a million head shots.
ONLY 3 times???? ... How many times was Vitali Klitschko down??? ... And he never fought anyone as light as the 3 guys who decked Ali.
He also didn't fight opponents anywhere near as good as Ali's.

I voted for Mercer because I thought it said McCall, lol. But McCall isn't on the list anyway so my vote should be on the 'other' option.
