The one that I remember most fondly is McMillan v Stecca - Stecca had been Olympic champion (admittedly in 1984 when the Eastern Bloc boycott had taken place but still not to be sniffed at), but McMillan completely outboxed him. Wonderful skills and speed - joyous to watch, and an amazing performance.
PS - I remember the scores on the night being, ridiculously, a split decision (although wrongly announced as a majority decision by the MC), but it is now down as unanimous on Boxrec. Appreciate I am about a quarter of a century late in asking this question, but anyone know what happened there - was it simply an error in adding the scores on the night?

McMillan is a great call, along with the likes of kirkland Laing and herol Graham, as being one of the biggest virtuosos of talent and skill to have graced british rings.

I thought Paul Ingle was better than him in every department.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 04:48 McMillan is a great call, along with the likes of kirkland Laing and herol Graham, as being one of the biggest virtuosos of talent and skill to have graced british rings.

Hollighan actually did better than expected if you rewatch it .Deserter wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 23:03Can’t agree with any of those mate given the criteria- Green vs Leonard, Chavez vs Hooligan in particular were never expected to be remotely competitive beforehand.
If you wanted to go down that road then surely nothing more illustrative of levels than Barrera’s demolitions of Wenton and Lloyd... talk about making the gap between British and World level very explicit.![]()

I was gonna put that fight, if I remember rightly Mickey duff thought they'd picked Graham on the way down and rid would win
Re: Biggest Boxing Lessons you've ever witnessed in a fight...
One of Mickey's mistakes, of which there are a few (Downes-Tiger, Laing-Hutchings, Gardner-Dokes, Minter-Harris, Stracey-Palomino, Watson-McCallum...). Mickey actually blamed the referee (former pro bantamweight Billy Rafferty) for the injury suffered by Douglas, which was a horrible attempt to free himself of any error.paddy chavez wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 11:23Switch hitter wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 08:36 Hero Graham vs Rod Douglas...... just a shame about the aftermath.

I'm hugely biased to Paul but he was technically brilliant. His lifestyle let him down in the end, with tragic consequences. He was worse than Hatton for drinking and blowing up.littlepug wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 11:51Aye he probably was but you wont see many with skills as smooth as Mcmillan, he even looked good when he was losing !mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 07:46I thought Paul Ingle was better than him in every department.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 04:48 McMillan is a great call, along with the likes of kirkland Laing and herol Graham, as being one of the biggest virtuosos of talent and skill to have graced british rings.

First time I entered the A.B.As (about 91/92ish) I went to get changed and saw paul Ingle in there also getting changed and sh1t myself hoping he hadnt moved up to bantam ! in hindsight I would love to say I had shared a ring with him, woulda been a hard night though !mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 13:32I'm hugely biased to Paul but he was technically brilliant. As well as can be expected. He came through here for an unlicensed show a couple of weeks ago. He rarely misses one!thepocketrocket wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 13:40mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2017, 13:32I'm hugely biased to Paul but he was technically brilliant.
