I saw that fight and I had Vitali clearly ahead to the point of being flabbergasted that it was halted, until they gave the reason.

Cojimar 1946 wrote: 04 Jan 2019, 01:49 Lewis has an absolutely huge advantage in resume depth which is more than enough to offset Frazier having a better top win. If top win was all that matters than Max Schmelling is better than Muhammad Ali and Randy Turpin is better than Sugar Ray Leonard.

Lewis beat about 12 guys ranked in the top 10 compared to Foreman's 5 and Frazier's 6/7. He also dominated the division for a number of years while Foreman was never even the best heavyweight in the world at any point in time, much less dominating a division.
You can't go just by how many ranked opponents for obvious reasons. A guy ranked #5 at one time might be a lot better than a guy ranked #5 in another time in another for example.
You are also counting a win over a guy ranked #10 as the same as a guy ranked #1, which is just silly.

No, Lewis doesn't have a huge advantage in depth. Not at all. In fact, even if you throw out the win over Ali (which would be stupid to do but you think is a good idea when it suits your argument)
He should not get too much credit for beating those versions of Holyfield and Tyson. Nor the Mercer fight where he got a dubious decision. Lewis did beat guys like Ruddock, Bruno, Golota, Rahman, and Tua. Obviously that's pretty good.

However, Frazier beat Quarry, Ellis, Bonavena, Bugner, and Mathis. That's pretty good too. You certainly could legitimately argue that it's more impressive than who Lewis' wins. If you add the Ali win to that (which you obviously should do) then Frazier's victims list is clearly better than Lewis.

Then consider that Lewis' losses are to guys that aren't anywhere near the level of whom Frazier lost to, then Frazier's career looks even more clearly better than Lewis' career.

I saw the Byrd fight. I don't remember any mention of Vitali originally being scheduled to fight Ruddock.

I believe it was vitalis American debut. Just a boxing after dark, and when I came home to cheer on razor Byrd was in the ring.

Just looked it up. Ruddock had hepatitis and pulled out 10 days before. Nice one!

Ruddock was the original opponent. The reason given at the time was a 'reverse vasectomy gone wrong'!

Either Povetkin or Byrd for best win.

Best opponent, likely Povetkin.

Yeh, Haye was in his prime, and TBH, was a good HW, just never had many fights.

Chagaev and Povetkin respectively were top 3 HW's at the time when they foought Wlad.

Could argue the first Chris Byrd win?
