OK. If he looks sensational in this fight and then against someone like Whyte or Parker or Brezeale he'll be on tap for a title fight, both him and his big baby friend, who i also think has a chance to be a champ, tho admittedly the odds will be against them both.
Not sure what he'd prove fighting Parker or Breazeale. Parker needs to rebuild, and I already rate Kownacki higher than Breazeale. Whyte is already pretty much a big contender that doesn't need to fight Kownacki.

Kownacki/Miller is probably the ideal next fight for both men, but I doubt it'd happen.
IF he gets by Washington. Nothing like looking ahead, eh boys?

For once I'm in agreement with the crowd here. Everybody's on this poll except one guy thinks he will win this one and so do I. Of course, as always, anything can happen.

Have to disagree Mexi.
Given that Miller and Kownacki have been sparring together for about 15 years, and are currently sparring in preparation for Kownacki/Washington, it would probably be a crap fight. And neither of them want it either.

Derevyanchenko/Jacobs was a battle of former sparring partners. They were able to push aside their friendship and had a great fight. I hate that mindset when you have two top fighters in the same training stable. Someone needs to come out on top.

Miller wouldn't fight anyone breathing to risk a payday with AJ. I know, I know...I'm being quite redundant, but it's true.

Yeah, we missed out on Norton/Frazier because of friendship. Would've liked to have seen that one.

They should fight unless their brothers. I don't think either are going to become a titlist with Joshua and Fury/Wilder holding it down, but if they somehow did, it'd be insane if we had the Klitschko dynamic because they're friends.

Unfortunately I'm beginning to think Miller wouldn't be too interested in fighting Kownacki even if they weren't close friends.

I've probably been Miller's most enthusiastic advocate on BoxRec but I'm getting a little tired of his hypocrisy. I don't mind fighters running their mouths if they back it up, but how Miller has the nerve to criticise Whyte for not wanting to fight Pulev in Sofia for peanuts, instead of Parker on PPV for big money, is mind boggling when you think Miller turned down the same opportunity.

Also Whyte didn't need to become IBF mandatory to ensure his shot at Joshua whereas Miller did! Clearly Miller would prefer a real test against Manuel Charr or Trevor Bryan instead of fighting a pair of stiffs like Pulev and Joshua. :brick:

I was impressed with him fighting Washington (back then) and had no problem with Wach or Duhaupas. Adamek ... well let's blame Eddie for that one, and at least Dinu was undefeated even if he hadn't beaten anyone decent. I still think he can fight but FFS Jarrell, either take on someone of serious stature in the division, or STFU about your marvellous resume because anybody who knows anything about boxing knows your claims are pure fantasy. Big talk provokes big expectations.

Kownacki: "I don’t have to look like Rambo to knock people out"

“I don’t really care that I’m not looking like some super-athlete. I know how hard I work. This is not a bodybuilding competition – this is boxing, winning fights, giving people a show that counts. I don’t have to look like Rambo to knock people out,” says IBF #6, WBA #8 ranked heavyweight Adam Kownacki.

Kownacki (18-0, 14 KOs) spoke with Fightnews.com® about his upcoming bout with Gerald Washington (19-2, 12 KOs) taking place January 26 on FOX. He also talks about fighting Ołeksandr Usyk (“why not?”), future plans and a long friendship but fairly new advisor deal with Keith Connelly.

Adam, before we start talking about boxing, did you try a traditional Polish Christmas dinner?

First we celebrated dinner at my brother’s house, then at my wife Justyna’s parents place. It was fun, 40 people or so, most of them from Kownacki family. Food? When you’re heavyweight, you can eat, still enough time to the Gerald Washington bout. I’m around 255 today, maybe around 250 planned for January 26. Working hard, lots of running – everything is even ahead of schedule. There’s no point to starve myself. Whatever we are doing with my trainer, it’s working, look at the fights. A lot of fighters are losing weight just to lose weight and you see what happens next. I feel great with my pounds.

Do you even have conversations about that with your trainer? Or he’s more interested in keeping your unreal energy, punch output when you step between the ropes?

Of course, isn’t this what counts? I read at Compubox that I had like 80 punches a round in last fight vs. Charles Martin. I don’t really care that I’m not looking like some super-athlete. I know how hard I work. This is not a bodybuilding competition – this is boxing, winning fights, giving people a show that counts. I don’t have to look like Rambo to knock people out.

Gerald Washington is next, and according to your words, another fighter to bring you closer to a championship bout.

Gerald already fought Deontay Wilder and looked good until Wilder connected with one of his big punches. Now it’s my time to test myself against a fighter of Washington’s skills. Wilder, Big Baby Miller stopped him, I want to do the same. Washington defeated all the… let’s say OK but nothing special fighters he fought. Never a really good opponent. Let’s find out in which group I could be classified. Tall, strong, looks like all current world champions.

Keith Connolly, your manager since April 2018, is considered one of the best of the new wave of boxing agents. And he likes to keep things under wraps.

I’ve known Keith for many, many years – since my amateur times. We had dinner – Keith, me, my trainer Keith Trimble and I liked what Connolly was saying. No BS, good plan, we had a deal. We work together closely, so at least once a week we have a meeting, even when nothing special is going on. During negotiations – at least 3-4 time a week. He added a lot to Team Kownacki, financially and because of his connections. He knows the boxing market very well and proved in 2018 to be the best – with all his fighters getting paid, getting a chance to fight for championships.

It’s 2019 – you are ranked IBF #6, WBA #8. Was that the plan when 2018 started?

Not really… I want to be a world champion. I’m still building myself to be in that position. A year ago I was ranked #10 by the WBA and wasn’t ranked by the IBF. It’s better. I’m expecting Anthony Joshua to fight Dillian Whyte in April…but I don’t want to just sit down and wait to see what will happen next. I want to fight, want experience. I fought better opposition than many of my colleagues who already fought for the belt. I beat Szpilka, Kiladze, Martin – former champs or title contenders. Not some taxi drivers – tough fighters, tough tests.

Eddie Hearn did mention your name when talking about possible bout for consensus Fighter of the Year – Ołeksandr Usyk.

Why not? I’m not afraid. Right now it’s just talk, nothing serious is happening. Usyk is vulnerable when under pressure. You could see that against Tony Bellew, earlier when he fought Mairis Briedis. Fantastic cardio, but less than fantastic defense. This is what boxing should be – testing yourself against the best.

Washington was rated 14th by the WBC, but then pushed to 8th place shortly before his bout with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ despite not having fought for over seven months. It was as if Mauricio Sulaimán was trying to give Deontay Wilder’s voluntary title defence some sort of credibility, by allowing Showtime to boast the fact that the American was facing a so-called "top-ten" ranked heavyweight, when he clearly wasn’t.

So I’d be shocked if Adam Kownacki fails to score a stoppage victory over Washington within six rounds.

I hate this attitude, Miller said similar recently too.

Szpilka, Washington, Cojanu, Molina (twice!) got given 'title shots' recently and Martin gifted the title.... They all have something else in common too.... They are sh!te!

The landscape is different now, those above are impressive wins for a newer guy in his Xth fight but not for someone seriously chasing a champion.

If Kow wants to get into the mix then get into the mix.... Dont talk about fighting good opposition 'tough fighters, tough tests' when your best win is a guy Joshua blew over in 2 rounds over 2 years ago!

All the guys you've mentioned are PBC fighters that are affiliated with Al Haymon.

Deontay Wilder is an Al Haymon fighter and the WBC keep allowing him to face his fellow Al Haymon stablemates (i.e. Bermane Stiverne (twice), Eric Molina, Artur Szpilka, Chris Arreola, Gerald Washington and Luis Ortiz).

Coincidentally, The Bronze Bomber's current mandatory challenger is Dominic Breazeale, with Luis Ortiz likely to be instated by the WBC as his secondary mandatory... AND both men are Al Haymon fighters.

Also, before Eddie Hearn announced his deal with DAZN and was still closely working with Al Haymon, the first three opponents of Anthony Joshua’s world championship bouts were also PBC fighters (i.e. Charles Martin, Dominic Breazeale and Eric Molina).

Around the same time period, Eddie Hearn was actually promoting several Al Haymon fighters (i.e. James DeGale, Luis Ortiz and Lee Selby).

Anyway, it is now far more challenging to orchestrate bouts between Matchroom and PBC fighters, since Al Haymon and Eddie Hearn are both working with rival networks (i.e. ITV/Fox/Showtime versus Sky/DAZN).

Yeh, you're definately fight about the rest.. Even now though, I think Khan is still advised by Haymon, and could easily rejoin the PBC stable after his Matchroom contract is up.. Not all PBC fighters have promoters, and are mostly free agents.

It does seem that we can't help but take into consideration how a fighter looks when rating them. I still think he loses this fight! :yay:

Yeah, we missed out on Norton/Frazier because of friendship. Would've liked to have seen that one.
yeah, this and Big Baby vs Babyface would be a very nice fights if not the fact of their friendships. Miller vs Kownacki would be a war :box:
It would probably be up there with Ibeabuchi v Tua for number of punches thrown.

I rate Miller far more than I do Kownacki though.
