Enlightened-One wrote: 03 Apr 2019, 16:48 Is there a reason why so many lacklustre names are in the running for GGG’s debut on DAZN?

Is it a case of GGG Promotions or DAZN not wanting to spend money on big name opposition?

They seem to be scraping the barrel a bit by seeking easy prey, like “Vanes Martirosyan” type opposition, instead of anyone that poses at least a half-decent threat!
Who would you like to see GGG fighting next?

And yet Vanes Martirosyan, Dominic Wade, Kell Brook and GGG’s next opponent are all worse than those guys, either due to lacking talent or having to overcome a huge size disadvantage?

I could name even more lacklustre opposition GGG defended his world middleweight titles against:
• Kassim Ouma
• Lajuan Simon
• Makoto Fuchigami
• Grzegorz Proksa
• Gabriel Rosado
• Nobuhiro Ishida
• Matthew Macklin
• Curtis Stevens
• Osumanu Adama
• Marco Antonio Rubio
• Willie Monroe Jr.
• Dominic Wade
• Nilson Julio Tapia
• Milton Nunez
• Kell Brook
• Vanes Martirosyan

I’m pretty sure that the vast majority of these men used to compete as welterweights/light middleweights, with nearly all of them not considered top-ten world-rated 160lb-ers at the time they fought GGG, barring one or two of them that may have only been on the periphery.

Also, just because another fighter faces less than stellar opposition at times, that’s not an excuse for GGG to do it also and for his fans to use this as an excuse to justify their belief that he should be considered as being immune from receiving criticism!

Any elite-level pound-for-pounder that chooses to face easy opposition deserves to be criticised, regardless of whether it’s Canelo or Golovkin.

FFS! I know you’re a fan but show some integrity and consistency in your opinions. Stop applying double-standards!

GGG’s next opponent is very likely going to be poor (based on the names recently mentioned) and if this is the case, then he should rightly be criticised for cherry-picking someone easy.

The difference is: in the last 5 years nobody refused to fight Canelo. He can pick who he fights.

When Golovkin needs an opponent, everybody go into hiding, at least that was the case until 2017. Who do you think he can fight now?

From the start of 2013 onwards, GGG attracted some of the biggest non-PPV audience figures from the HBO and Showtime Nielsen ratings, but yet Gennady's and his opponents’ purses were a quarter of the size of some of his peers... at least until the David Lemieux bout of 2015.

Golovkin has now become self-managed and self-promoted, because he wants to make all of his own decisions.

I feel he did this because his former managers and promoters have exploited him in the past (as per him ceasing to use the services of Maximilian, Hermann, Universum and K2, with one or two of these situations resulting in him filing lawsuits against those parties).

Even Tom Loeffler seems to only be acting in an administrative capacity nowadays, with GGG and his wife taking over the responsibility for negotiating deals.

People keep saying that fighter "A" refused to face GGG due to "cowardice", but there are very few instances that anyone can provide whereby K2 attempted to negotiate the terms of bouts but were subsequently rejected. Team Golovkin usually went down the mandatory challenger route instead. It seems that K2 didn't want to invest in their fighter, either because they didn't have the money or they did not want to risk staging loss-making events.

I believe that had GGG worked with Top Rank, the PBC, GBP or Matchroom over the last five years, he would have mixed with superior opposition and become much wealthier.

Now that he has negotiated a huge deal with DAZN, coupled with his viewership figures being one of the highest in the sport, he should have enough financial backing to negotiate fights against far better opponents than the likes of Hassan N'Dam or Brandon Adams.

I don’t believe that “every fighter was far too scared to face GGG”, because I feel it was a myth perpetuated by K2 to conceal their own incompetence to orchestrate bouts. Some of Gennady’s biggest paydays of his career were due to GBP and Matchroom, not K2.

For the record, I hate it when Canelo faces underwhelming opposition. I’m not picking on GGG.

Yes, could be a big headache for the DAZN. I'm hoping the fact that they can guarantee getting these guys out 2 or more times a year will help wean fans off the pick and choose PPVs and onto the subs.

As for GGG, he's still the boxer others have the most trouble signing up for - regardless of whose to blame for this. The 2 Canelo fights haven't lead to a queue of names calling him out and amongst his peers he remains the number 1 middleweight on the planet.

I was responding to your previous accusation, not just the question... I didn't want to ignore a point I disagreed with.

GGG should be able to face most of the following names within the next six months or so:

Callum Smith, Demetrius Andrade, Jaime Munguia, Dmitry Bivol, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Matt Korobov, the winner of Canelo-Jacobs, as well as the majority of the 168lbs division, even though most of them are with Al Haymon. It's easier to orchestrate cross-platform bouts involving PBC fighters in lower paid divisions. What about Rob Brant?

A lot of these guys don’t have bouts lined-up, but a few that do are competing in them very soon – meaning that many of these men could be available within DAZN’s preferred June 8th fight-date.

Maybe my English is not clear? I asked about "now". Who of the fighters you mentioned is ready to sign now for a June fight on DAZN ?

As I already stated, you'll surely find that most of the names I listed either don't have any fights lined-up or they're competing in them imminently. I reckon 90% of them should be available for the June fight-date such as: Callum Smith, Demetrius Andrade, Jaime Munguia, Dmitry Bivol, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Rob Brant etc.

Have you heard any of them calling GGG out? They will only start doing that after Golovkin's next fight is announced.

Are we back to this again? If a fighter doesn’t approach GGG then you accuse them of “ducking”? What about Team Golovkin testing the waters and approaching these guys instead?

For the record: Demetrius Andrade called out GGG on the 19th January. Five days ago, Jaime Munguia said he was interested in facing Golovkin right now. Callum Smith called-out GGG during November of last year.

Golovkin even vacated his IBF crown in order to avoid facing Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Dmitry Bivol is willing to make the move to 168lbs to participate in marquee bouts, with both the Russian and the Kazakh being DAZN stablemates. Abel Sanchez recently stated that Rob Brant would be an ideal opponent for GGG and would like the two to fight during early 2019.

There was no sign of passion, rage or excitment in my previous post, was there?

Boxing_rocks asked me to list fighters available now that were better than the likes of Hassan N'Dam, Brandon Adams and Kamil Szeremeta. And I did.

Boxing_rocks then claimed that none of the guys I mentioned would call out Golovkin, but we know that at least four of the names I mentioned wanted to face him, with three of them calling the Kazakh out very recently.

Andrade called him out in January, when Golovkin wasn't signed by any network. That was very safe. Why is Andrade so quiet now. Munguia is fighting on April 13th. He clearly won't be ready to face Golovkin in June. Nobody else as far as I know mentioned that they want to fight him in June.
